Lake Hayes is a small lake in the Wakatipu Basin in Central Otago, in New Zealand's South Island. It is located close to the towns of Arrowtown and Queenstown.
taking off from Dunedin the pilot took us over the harbor on a perfect day! It is the result of a volcanic eruption 8 million years ago about where the small islands are. The Peninsua on the right is a place I often go looking for photos.

The University of Otago is a public research collegiate university based in Dunedin, Otago, New Zealand. Founded in 1869, Otago is New Zealand's oldest university and one of the oldest universities in Oceania.

The Otago was once a three masted iron barque that was built in Glasgow, Scotland, in 1869. The shipwreck now rests on the banks of the Derwent River, Tasmania.
Some sheep spotted on my travels, they weren't watching me either!

Otago Peninsula, located near Dunedin, New Zealand, is a place of spectacular natural beauty. It stretches along the entrance of Otago Harbour and is renowned for its unique and diverse wildlife. The Otago Gold Rush (often called the Central Otago Gold Rush) was a gold rush that occurred during the 1860s in Central Otago, New Zealand. This was the country's biggest gold strike, and led to a rapid influx of foreign miners to the area – many of them veterans of other hunts for the precious metal in California and Victoria, Australia.
The rush started at Gabriel's Gully but spread throughout much of Central Otago, leading to the rapid expansion and commercialisation of the new colonial settlement of Dunedin, which quickly grew to be New Zealand's largest city. Only a few years later, most of the smaller new settlements were deserted, and gold extraction became more long-term, industrialised-mechanical process. (Source: Wikipedia)
We spent a morning on a jeep tour around the Queenstown NZ area. the mountains and lush green valleys were so beautiful . Rugged brilliance everywhere. Snow capped peaks are a plus. This was taken from Coronet Peak.

Dunedin has become a cruise ship destination. Most of them sail only halfway up the harbour from the South Pacific that you can almost see in the far distance and dock at our port in center of picture. Travelers come to town by bus or train or even old limos like Daimlers if you hire them. We are standing on the Otago Peninsula side of the harbour and may continue our tour from here down to the albatross colony in the far distance on the right.
Otago Harbour is the natural harbour of Dunedin, New Zealand, consisting of a long, much-indented stretch of generally navigable water separating the Otago Peninsula from the mainland. They join at its southwest end, 21 km (13 mi) from the harbour mouth. It is home to Dunedin's two port facilities, Port Chalmers (half way along the harbour) and at Dunedin's wharf (at the harbour's end). The harbour has been of significant economic importance for approximately 700 years, as a sheltered harbour and fishery, then deep water port.

The outside of the Geology Museum, Otago University. Beginning shortly after gold was discovered in NZ a School of Mines was established in the 1870s and kater became the Geology Dept.
