'Oracle' by Anish Kapoor, 1990-2002
A patron inspects one of Kapoor's early 'void' pieces. Great use of materials create a depth to pieces that are quite hard to translate through photographs. Hopefully this man's inspection illustrates the double-taking that was happening throughout the exhibition by all visitors.

Artist Statement:
The Root Oracle is a meditation on stillness, memory, and the act of being witnessed by something ancient. The glowing orb at the center of the tree is not a message, but a presence a waiting consciousness. The seated figure (or is it simply a form in emergence?) does not seek answers. It simply listens.
The tree, radiant with red and orange current, rises from darkness like a synaptic bloom part coral, part lantern, part altar. The water reflects what is not spoken. The orb holds what cannot be named.
This is not a depiction of revelation. It is the moment before, when the soul is quiet enough to notice it is not alone.
