Opulenta, sontuosa e ricca come una nobile dama in grande sfarzo, sicura della sua bellezza. Così si presenta quella che molti definiscono come la rosa più bella del mondo, la rosa ‘Pierre de Ronsard’, creata dal francese Meilland e spesso denominata non a caso ‘Eden Rose’.

* La Riva del vin circunda el Gran Canal desde el Puente de Rialto hasta la iglesia de San Silvestre en el lado del sestiere de San Polo. Es uno de los pocos tramos del Gran Canal flanqueado por recorridos peatonales. El nombre deriva del hecho de que en este lugar comenzaron a llegar y a amarrar barcos cargados de vino, una costumbre que se prolongó hasta casi mediados del siglo XIX.

The Bourguiba Mausoleum sits on the northern edge of Monastir cemetery. Its opulent splendour, topped with a golden dome, is a tribute to Tunisia's first president, Habib Bourguiba after independence from the French. Built in 1963, this burial mosque holds the bodies of the ex-President as well as his family. Two 25 m slender minarets are made of Italian marble, while the facade is covered with beautifully delicate tiling work. The tomb of Bourguiba itself sits amid a dazzling interior of glass-inlay and underneath a spectacular chandelier.

En 1866 el rey Carol (Carlos) I de Rumania visitó el pequeño pueblo de Sinaia , los Cárpatos lo sedujeron, se enamoró del lugar y de inmediato mandó construir con fondos propios un castillo que sería la residencia estival de los reyes .
El palacio-castillo es una mezcla de estilo neo-gótico y neo-renacentista. Cuenta con unas 160 habitaciones y mas de 30 baños repartidos en sus 3.200 metros cuadrados de planta con todas las comodidades y lujos que se podían soñar a finales del siglo XIX.
El interior es asombroso con los materiales más opulentos de la época; paredes totalmente revestidas de maderas preciosas , con cuero traído de Córdoba, mármol de Italia , arañas de Murano, porcelana de Meissen, o de Sèvres ,muebles de nogal de la India regalo del Marajá de Kapurtala , suntuosas sedas , relieves , esculturas etc etc. Influencias de todas partes del mundo confluyen entre sus muros.
No se construyó con fines defensivos, sino meramente ostentosos, con él, el rey Carol I quiso deslumbrar en 1873 a la corte europea , fue el primer edificio de Europa en tener electricidad y ascensor y desde 1888 calefacción central . Dispone también de un precioso techo de cristal móvil que activado por un motor eléctrico, permitía al rey admirar el cielo azul en las noches de verano.
El castillo de Peles se convirtió en uno de los monumentos más importantes de Europa del siglo XIX.

Wer nach dem Betrachten der Außenansicht eine opulente Innengestaltung erwartet hat, wird enttäuscht.

Allerdings entschädigt die schöne, bereits von außen erkennbare halbrunde Apsis.
Leider wurde dort gerade für das Konzert aufgebaut und geprobt, sodaß ich davon keine Nahaufnahme habe.

Genau dies war Teil der Bauidee. Heute ist das „Schloss der Arbeit“ zweifellos eines der schönsten und außergewöhnlichsten Zeugnisse der industriellen Vergangenheit in Deutschland.
Kaum mehr vorstellbar ist heute, dass das Ensemble nach der Stillegung in den 1960er Jahren zugunsten einer Schnellstraße abgerissen werden sollte. Wichtigstes Objekt im Kampf um den Erhalt war die Maschinenhalle mit dem eindrucksvollen Jugendstilportal – heute eine Ikone der Industriekultur. Der Erhalt des Vorzeige-Baus aus Stahl und Glas 1969 rettete nicht nur die gesamte Anlage, sondern markiert gleichzeitig auch den Beginn der Industriedenkmalpflege in Deutschland.
Doch in unserem Museum der Sozial- und Kulturgeschichte des Ruhrbergbaus sind Glanz und Repräsentationskultur der Steinkohlenbergwerke nur eine von vielen Facetten. Es la iglesia protestante más grande de Alemania, y una de las tumbas dinásticas más importantes de Europa.
Su construcción se inició en 1865, culminó en el año 1905, y fue diseñada por el arquitecto Julius Raschdorff en los estilos barroco italiano y alto renacimiento.
Se concibió como un templo monumental, el más grande de Berlín, para contraponerlo a la basílica de San Pedro.

I was rather amused by the token gesture of a single low chain surrounding the location (seen in the foreground)sending out the subtle message, "Private - Keep Out", to riffraff like me :)
An extremely opulent window display that I just had to shoot. Pano-Sabotage being what it is, a largely improvisational, and therefore, not easily determinable method yielding un-repeatable results, this and one more shot were the only ones out of about 8 that were worth keeping. That's actually not a bad ratio, considering.
The exuberance and joy of Spring, bursting forth in a Surrealistic display. The mannequins were surrounded, in front, behind, above, below and all around by hanging blossoms. As a straight shot it was pretty amazing, but of course, pano-sabotage turned it into something else.

From the top of Diamondhead Crater, the view westward, the opulent turquoise waters of Waikiki Beach in the forefront, O’ahu’s premier tourist vacation spot, where the biggest resorts, restaurants, boutique stores and general party scene exist on the island of O’ahu. Behind that to the west are the high rises of Honolulu, Hawaii’s Capital, and most metropolitan city, barely visible because of the high level of haze further west would be Pearl Harbor and behind that the silhouette of Waianae Mountain Range. As stated, before the arduous trek up to Diamondhead’s peak, is hard work, lugging camera equipment, well keep it to a minimum if possible. My darling west coast damsel and her lovely daughter had to pause many times to wait for me as I took many ‘pit’ stops just to recompose myself as the heart is willing but many times the asthma is not. Definitely worth the trek to see this perspective and point of view.

L'hôtel Negresco est un hôtel de luxe situé sur la promenade des Anglais à Nice. Il a obtenu sa cinquième étoile en août 2009.
C'est l'un des rares survivants de l'hôtellerie du début du xxe siècle et l'un des derniers établissements indépendants de cette classe. La Alberca no tiene grandes monumentos ni opulentos palacios. Su encanto procede de la arquitectura serrana tradicional, de las viviendas de agricultores, ganaderos o artesanos. Se nota en la plaza Mayor, el centro neurálgico, cuyas casas porticadas se sustentan sobre columnas de granito. Es un escenario popular, entre cervantino y goyesco. La abundancia de soportales señala su uso antiguo como escenario de mercado. Algunos de los bajos se han reconvertido hoy en restaurantes. En el centro de la plaza se alza un crucero del siglo XVIII con los símbolos de la Pasión de Cristo grabados.

La façade occidentale résume à elle seule l’opulence de l’église. Un ample arc en anse de panier est surmonté d’une accolade ouvragée sur laquelle figure une statue de saint André (saint patron de la Bourgogne).
Cette façade occidentale a la forme d’un vaste triangle divisé en trois bandes verticales :
- le corps central correspond à la nef et les deux pignons latéraux couvrent les bas-côtés.
- Le corps central est divisé lui-même en trois étages par des balcons ajourés.
- Le portail dont les sculptures très riches encadrent un tympan, montre Philibert et Marguerite présentés au Christ par leurs saints patrons. Sur le trumeau, on trouve saint Nicolas de Tolentin avec son étoile. L’église de Brou est placée sous son patronage. De part et d’autre, figurent les apôtres saints Pierre et Paul, patrons du prieuré bénédictin antérieur.
Aux niveaux supérieurs se détachent trois grandes fenêtres gothiques puis encore au dessus un pignon triangulaire terminé par un fleuron et deux pinacles. On découvre dans le portail la plupart des motifs décoratifs qui fleuriront dans l’église :
- Les marguerites : armes parlantes de la princesse,
- Le P et le M liés par les lacs d’amour,
- Les emblèmes bourguignons : la croix de saint André (en X) unie au briquet.

The church Sant'Andrea della Valle in Rome is very opulent with all its golden decor, but there are quieter, darker corners to this church - this is not the central dome, but a smaller one at a side-chapel. And I have to say the mood in this part of the church is rather more serene (but stil worth craning your neck for).
This Baroque church was built 1590-1650.

The church was first built 1573-78, after a design by Girolamo Cassar, born in Malta, but got its current looks in the century after. It was the main church of worship for the knights of St John (who dominated the island in the 17th and 18th centuries).
