The second day on the easing of lockdown, and I took the opportunity to take a trip to Stanage Edge, everybody there was being very sensible, which was good to see, I picked a spot away from everyone and just soaked in the view for a couple of hours, pure bliss.

I'll keep away from the villages and stay out in the open

No train this morning, not that the birds on the track or cows in the field minded

Lions go through extensive mating rituals about every twenty minutes for several days. Sitting around watching them is super entertaining and provides opportunities to capture images like this from the Masai Mara region.

While the strong winds were making it hard for me to hold the camouflage tent and also take photos, there were some benefits as well. The Bee-eaters could barely land on the perches and they would constantly move to try to balance. This gave me the opportunity to get photos like this one.

Smile on Saturday theme Frosty Flora

I had bought this wreath to put on the door before Christmas but had no way of attaching it to the door. As a result I had left the wreath outside whilst we figured a way of displaying it and so it would not dry out and fall apart prematurely. However, it was so cold that everything outside ended up frozen and coated in frost, including my lovely Christmas wreath. Off course at the same time we had a huge dump of snow, which even in the midst of winter is unpredictable and a complete rarity here in the UK in December. I couldn't resist taking a photo of the frosty wreath on the snow in the bright sunshine and all before Christmas. I'm not sure it's an opportunity that will ever repeat itself again!

Happy Smile on Saturday!!! 😊

Lavandula Swiss Italian Farm is a beautiful property nestled among the rolling hills of Shepherds Flat. The 100 acre property was once farmed by Swiss-Italians, who came to Australia in the 1850's looking for new opportunities.

LUCKY OPPORTUNITY to photograph one of these Slim and Savage predators, active by day and night, it relentlessly tracks down its prey by scent. It often kills prey more than twice its size, biting deeply into the neck.

Did not have the opportunity to capture Mr Rainbow this season. Managed to improve the PPing of these shots to get decent IQ. The shooting condition was very dim and shaded. Shot handheld with 1/8 sec. That's why I am hanging on to my Oly system for dear life - the great image stabilisation and Pro Capture feature.

Thank you my friends for popping by.

I really appreciate your visits, comments & favourites.

Wishing all my Flickr friends a Beautiful Day

Take care and stay safe everyone

With so little opportunity to be out with the camera at the moment, I spent a little time revisiting an old one last night. This is sunrise from under Worthing Pier a couple of years ago.

Window of Opportunity - It's truly amazing how fast these hummingbird chicks develop. During a break from work today, I took 15 minutes to try to capture an image during some beautiful overcast early evening light. I was amazed to see feathers coming in nicely on the the 2 chicks and their beaks thinning and growing already.

During a slow time for photography, I realize I am truly blessed to have this opportunity in the yard. Hummingbird nests may be common, but a front seat to a clear nest such as this is not. Nature as always is unpredictable, but it has been touching to see the level of effort this mother has put into feeding and defending her young - and I am hopeful she will see them through the remaining 2 weeks until fledging.

Species: Anna's Hummingbird (Calytpe anna)

Location: Santa Clara County, CA, USA

Equipment: Canon EOS R5 + EF 100-400mm IS II + 1.4x III Extender

Settings: 1/400s, ISO: 1000, f/8 @896mm (APS-C Mode)

In Parkes, NSW, for the David Malin Awards, I was told the normal floodlighting on The Dish radio telescope would be turned off to allow a timelapse to be made for the CSIRO. I hadn't planned to shoot The Dish as many others already have, but without the excess lighting, and given I didn't find a better site I thought I should try. Sigma lens, processed in Lightroom.

Benched For The Winter...

The walk through Ken Whillams Conservation Area a few days ago gave opportunity to capture quite a few wonderful images.

A stack of park benches sidelined for the season, covered in crisp white snow, biding their time hoping for spring to arrive.

These benches have been host to many groups of people having fun doing things that distract them from the myriad of burdens of daily life.

What once was the projectionist's booth in the old Wilson Theater.

From Cinema Treasures:

Opened in 1925, the architect was H. Rafael Lake. It was equipped with a Wurlitzer, 3 Manual/11 Rank theatre organ that was shipped from the Wurlitzer factory on 11th April 1925. This organ was taken out the Wilson Theatre and installed in the Hayden Orpheum Picture Palace, Cremorne, Sydney, N.S.W. Australia in 1987 (/theaters/848/).

From the early-1940’s it was known as the Fox Wilson Theatre, operated by Fox West Coast Theatres. The Fox Wilson Theatre closed as a movie theatre in August 1971.

By 1986 and for several years though to at least 1996 it had become a rock concert venue. It is now home to the Cornerstone Church who purchased the building in 1997 and the building has been well maintained, retaining all architectural features.

Zebra Plains Mara Camp, Masai mara, Kenya, November, 2019.

Our November 2019 trip gave our guests some amazing photographic opportunities in the Masai mara.

Take a look at our new website for special rate all inclusive Kenyan Safaris in 2020 and 2021.

I had the opportunity to photograph this very cooperative Least Tern that was incubating it’s eggs. Knowing that the Sun will go down behind the bird, I decided to spend the rest of the evening photographing the bird. Strangely, she/ he had no help from the partner, every hour or so the bird took a break to feed itself

Sometimes the best opportunities arise completely by chance. I photographed winter landscapes in panoramic format: a wide plain with a farmhouse, a black road in the glittering snow, a weeping birch with frost - so 3 photos - but there is room for 4 photos on the film. It is always the same situation: everything is shot - but the film is not full. I wandered around and looked for subjects. Nothing seemed to fit. I went back to the car, which I had parked on a forest path. That's exactly where I discovered the opportunity for my last picture... Of the four, it turned out to be the best, I think.

This pic made the award: "Grandmaster of Photography" of the groop "DSLR". I am happy and a little proud!

... another light painting image. I’ve wanted to try the book thing for a while but haven’t had an opportunity to set the shot up. This week’s theme was perfect and I ended up capturing some hearts in the light too. Happy Valentine’s Day to you all. The sparrowhawk is surely one of the UK's most striking raptors.

Unfortunately this male's own strike was far from successful and his chosen prey had long since fled when I took this shot.

Many thanks to all those who take the time to comment on my photos. It is truly appreciated.

These Long Tailed Macaques were to be found in the temple grounds at Chua Linh Ung together with plenty of notices that stated they should not be fed and given a wide birth. Clearly they had been attracted by the visitors who must have fed them or given them opportunities to steal. Whilst I was there I noticed some people ignoring these instructions and feeding them. My camera was too valuable for me to get too close to them.

COVID-19 gives opportunities to take countless picture over time of day, of overcast and of sunshine. God's creation is forever changing. Love the interaction between flower and insect.

The earth is filled with Your unfailing love, O Eternal One; teach me to observe what You require. ~ Psalm 119:64

Don’t run from tests and hardships, brothers and sisters. As difficult as they are, you will ultimately find joy in them; if you embrace them, your faith will blossom under pressure and teach you true patience as you endure. And true patience brought on by endurance will equip you to complete the long journey and cross the finish line—mature, complete, and wanting nothing. ~ James 1: 2-4

Freed from lockdown we took the opportunity to re-unite (via social distancing, natch) with friends in their garden for an early sundowner. And I just happened to have a camera to hand to capture some of their lovely semi-wild garden.

Our guides, from Guilin Photography Tours, setup an opportunity to go into some peoples homes on our first day.

It's one thing to be walking around an ancient village but something else entirely to be invited into a home and photograph people within their surroundings.

This lady, to me, was absolutely beautiful both in her appearance and in spirit. So was so welcoming when we came in and was so willing to be a subject for our cameras.

This is one of my favourite moments from the trip and one of my favourite shots from the couple of weeks that I was in China.

Seldom do I think the female is 'more colorful' than the male but this is one of those times. We had so many opportunities to capture the Black-crowned Tityra that were nesting near by. It would have been great to have been there when the babies arrived.

day 3

I love this angle looking northeast toward downtown St. Paul. This photo took a long wait, as the glaciers probably moved faster than did this manifest trying to make a start down the Mankato Subdivision. This train left Hoffman Yard and slowly worked its way to under the Wabasha Street Bridge then stopped for 10 minutes. The train then moved the distance of two city blocks near Ontario Street then stopped. I figured there had to be opposing traffic or something causing them to be so hesitant. Sure enough, a long manifest was ending its journey on the Mankato Subdivision and coming into St. Paul. Another 30 minutes went by, perhaps to give traffic downtown a break - the first manifest occupied Chestnut Street for 15 minutes. Finally, this westbound finally moved onto the Mankato Subdivision and completed a glorious scene here viewed from the High Bridge. I estimate it took 1 hour and 30 minutes for this to get here from Hoffman Yard - a distance of only three miles away.

I thought I saw a person working on a farm in the footpath, but in fact it was someone waiting a photo opportunity.😆

I thought the mama abandoned the nest as they were gone for a day or so, giving me the opportunity to snap a quick image. Thankfully, Mama came back.

One of the waterfalls in the Healey Dell valley. This is another throwback to our Industrial Heritage when the River Spodden powered the Corn, Cotton and Woollen Mills in this area of Lancashire.

The valley is littered with relics from this bygone era and provides lots of good photo opportunities such as this.

LIFE IS....

by Mother Theresa

Life is an opportunity, benefit from it.

Life is beauty, admire it.

Life is a dream, realize it.

Life is a challenge, meet it.

Life is a duty, complete it.

Life is a game, play it.

Life is a promise, fulfill it.

Life is sorrow, overcome it.

Life is a song, sing it.

Life is a struggle, accept it.

Life is a tragedy, confront it.

Life is an adventure, dare it.

Life is luck, make it.

Life is too precious, do not destroy it.

Life is life, fight for it.

On my way to the city centre I noticed that the gate to the back yard of a shop was open with fairy lights sparkling, so I took the opportunity to quickly take a photo of the scene.

I can't resist fairy lights when I have mounted a vintage (or fast) lens onto one of my cameras ; ))

There was no queue for this shot but normally there would be. I think 2021 will live long in the memory for the year that tourism basically stopped

I recently had a wonderful opportunity to spend a few days photographing a few of the beautiful and ethereal cypress swamps in the southern US. This time of year is known for fall colours and for the mist hovering over the water. But nothing ever goes to plan. The day before I arrived, a great storm raged through and took down many of the leaves. And the weather was unseasonably warm, and without the cold air the mist mostly didn't materialize. But it was a magical experience all the same, and I loved the stillness, the sense of gothic mystery and the somber colour palette.

While trying to get some shots of the European Kestrel I came across this interesting situation. Obviously the Common Buzzard just killed -and was feasting on- a bird while this crow (?) was nearby waiting for the left overs. You can almost read the common buzzards thoughts......

I couldn't resist to upload this image as it was so interesting to watch.
