So while sitting on the couch watching my wife read, I had a crazy thought. What if I tried to shoot 600 film in an old rollfilm Land Camera??? - I know I've seen some people put those rare 600 backs on some other cameras so I figured it would work... And I was right. The 600 film fits almost perfectly in the back of my old Model 150 Land Camera (seen below) which was just sitting on the shelf collecting dust.
In the dark, I took a half-shot pack of 600 out of my SX-70 and replaced the darkslide before turning on the light.
Then I opened up the Model 150 and laid it out on the table ready to accept the film.
Turned out the light and removed one single 600 unexposed picture from underneath the darkslide.
Placed it carefully on the picture plane of the Model 150 and closed it up.
Then I took the 150 out on the porch to make a photo.
Just guessing at the exposure by listening to the shutter speeds, I selected the EV 14 setting which just happened to be perfect!
I used the rangefinder to focus, made the first picture and took the camera back into the darkroom (really just my wife's bathroom with no windows).
Opened the 150 and took the print out. Then put the print in another empty 600 cartridge, which I then inserted (still in the dark) into my trusty OneStep Close-Up which immediately ejected the print thinking it to be the darkslide of a new pack. No matter - it goes through the rollers like normal and Voilà ! - I turned on the light and saw the print developing before my eyes...
The image is backwards of course because there's no mirror, and I had been off slightly in aligning the print in the camera. But other than that it was pretty good. (see trio of pix below on the left)
On my 2nd attempt (see trio of pix below in the center) I tried EV 13, and shot vertically, but I'd forgot that it was not only backwards but also upside down. lol - and my alignment still wasn't on the mark. - The exposure also wasn't as good as the 1st one so I tried a third time, I changed the direction in which I put the print in the camera, set the exposure back to EV 14 - and damned if I didn't get a really decent image! (that is this picture above and in trio of pix below on the right.)(I obviously wasn't really paying any attention to my subject matter but that will come later).
This will be fun! Now I just need to get a dark bag so I can shoot more than one shot in the field, and figure out these EV exposures! - More to come!

We may have better cameras for taking photos with than this but it's such a nice looking little camera that Bela and I bought it anyway, from the same Value Village where I purchased the old Kodachrome slides.

Alongside the 'prosumer' range of folding SLRs, Polaroid released a large number of plastic bodied, non-folding consumer cameras that used the SX-70 integral film. There were several lines that varied in the type and amount of features they offered, but fall into three distinct categories differentiated by the method of focusing:
Fixed focus - Generally known (in the US) as OneStep models
Zone-focused - Generally known (in the US) as Pronto! models; e.g. Pronto RF
Sonar Autofocus - Labelled as both Pronto! and OneStep models, but usually with an AF or Sonar moniker.
All these models use the SX-70 integral film, meaning the camera is powered by a battery built into the film pack. Many of these models were able to use certain accessories designed for the folding SLR line of SX-70 cameras, such as flashbars, electronic flashes and tripod mounts.
The Land Camera 1000 is a foreign-markets version of the original Onestep model, meaning it has a fixed focus plastic lens. The model 1000 or original OneStep models are distinguished among the range in that they were made available with 2 different coloured shutter buttons - either green or red; there is some debate among collectors as to which was more common. A matching electronic flash was also released for the Onestep/1000 model, known as the Q-Light. It fits onto any SX-70 non-folding camera model, but was cosmetically matched to the original models. Features common to the series of OneStep non-folding, fixed-focus SX70-series integral film cameras are:
1 element plastic lens with fixed aperture (103mm, f14.6)
4ft minimum focus distance.
Exposure compensation dial around electric eye.

The SX-70 is a folding single lens reflex Land Camera first produced by the Polaroid Corporation in 1972. It was the first instant SLR in history, and the first camera to use Polaroid's new integral print film, which developed automatically without the need for intervention from the photographer.
The SX-70 has a folding body design, a 4-element 116mm f/8 glass lens, and an automatic exposure system. The camera allows manual focus as close as 10.4 inches (26.4cm), and has a shutter speed range from 1/175s to more than 10 seconds. This makes the camera incredibly versatile, and it can be used in pretty much any situation, from portraits to long exposure photographs.
This particular camera is the SX-70 "SONAR Onestep" SE. Quite literally it is one of the best model of SX-70 cameras available.
The main feature of this amazing model is its AUTOMATIC FOCUSING system. When the shutter button is pressed halfway, a series of ultrasonic chirps is emitted from an electrostatic transducer located under a gold plate above the lens. These chirps travel to the subject and bounce back to the camera’s receiver, alerting the camera to the subject’s distance, and the lens is turned via a motor to focus accordingly.
Don't think for a second that this automatic focusing is gimmicky! Simply put, its one of the most accurate automatic focusing systems ever made, and will outperform most new digital SLRs. It can focus from infinity down to 26cm in under 1 second!
Of course, you can over-ride the auto-focus and focus manually with the touch of a button if you want to.
The SONAR SX-70 models also features a tripod socket as well as a neck strap, to make the camera more portable to carry around. Most standard SX-70 models did not have these features.
This particular model is the rare "SE" version. It differs from the standard Sonar models in that it features a sleek black body and blue shutter button. The "SE" stands for "Special Edition". For those wondering what was so "special" about the SE, back in the day it came with extended warranty.

This particular model is the rare "Sears Special" version. The Sears Special was a effectively an SX-70 Sonar branded for sale at "Sears" stores (a chain of retail stores in the USA). It differed from standard models in its color scheme, which featured a mix of both black and chrome look panels and brown leatherette.
The Sears Special was originally covered in a cheap "porvair" vinyl leatherette. This was removed and the camera was reskinned with genuine brown cowhide.
