this happened last Friday on our way up North to the Cairngorms. Two identical trucks carrying these strange looking devices. My curiosity was properly tickled 😎😛

This was an ascent to a pass road getting us over yet another mountain range in Iceland's Central-North Highlands in order to get to the Myvatn region. As soon as we got a little higher snow started falling at ever increasing rate and the rest became an almost blind party ;). Here a capture from the start of that journey.

Every stretch of our roundtrip brought new sights and insights and amazingly varying aspects of Iceland's mind-boggling diversity of mountain ranges and geological features.

Our penultimate day in Iceland had the longest journey in store for us: more than 400 kilometres, which is not that much if you just drive, but if you stop, get out, walk and hike ever so often to photograph, quickly your day is over and you are in for a lovely night ride :)

Another image from our speedy approach to Kirkjufell on the penultimate day of our round trip around Iceland. This was such a looong day of driving and shooting and we finally made it to our destination - Kirkjufell mountain with its waterfall - for the end of a lovely sunset. This shot here shows Kolgrafarfjordur and surrounding mountains, which is just before arriving at Kirkjufell mountain.

Swerving solitary roads, intoxicating landscape beauty, holidays and a wacky motor home ... LIFE IS GOOD :)

We had the most amazing weather and light yesterday while driving home from Edinburgh. The air was crisp and cold, the fields and trees were wearing a silver sprinkle of frost and the sky gave us a lovely, long lasting sunset to go with the seasonal change. What a wonderful day to travel :)

A moment during our last day of round trip around Iceland, when we left Snaefellsnes National Park with its outlandish volcanic landscapes and endless hrauns (lava fields) to see a real village again.

Bank Holiday weekend was wayyy too short for our second visit to the bonnie Cairngorms, so it was with heavy hearts that we started our return journey. And the more the mountains receded, the more my mood sank ... :(

Weather can be very unstable in Iceland which is great in a way for it demands more flexibility in your photographic endeavour and also offers completely different light scenarios. I LOVED this moment when we were driving along the Northfjords in relative darkness and all of a sudden that snowy mountain appeared from in between clouds.

I’ll be waiting outside 'til you’re ready to go

Won’t you come down? Come away with me

On our way along the Northfjords of Iceland towards Siglufjordur we came to this coastal stretch displaying the jaw-dropping beauty of Iceland's fjords and the tremendous differences in seasonal change between lowlands and those mountain ranges along the fjords which appeared to be determined to keep winter in rule.

We found ourselves criss-crossing Iceland's mighty Westfjords and the road took us up and down, once over a mountain range and another time around a fjord, next time over a mountain range again ... and so on! What a fantastic crossing that was and the views!!! Here we were arriving ia Arnarfjordur in the evening, where we still needed to see and photograph the wonderful Dynjandi waterfall and then on through the night to reach the next pre-booked camping site at Patriksfjordur at guess. .. yet another fjord :)

Travelling from Holmavik to Patreksfjordur all along and across the Westfjords of Iceland did involve a lot of mountain passroad crossings with our motorhome, which was so much fun, especially when having such a vista opening to your eyes after turning around the last corner :)

I knew this would call your attention ;) This is of course NOT Mars but the isle of Harris, Outer Hebrides, but the islands and the moon for isntance share a lot of rock material as scientists have found out.

First frost powdering the fields near Edinburgh on our way home from a short stay in Scotland's remarkable capital. The drive felt so special for rarely do we get to see this frosty scenario in the UK :)

an image from the beginning of our journey 8 days ago which pretty much sums up the emotion of being on Icelandic roads.

Happy Monochrome Monday!

traveling through North Harris is quite an experience for seldom do we experience such ragged landscapes which despite all harshness are still populated There are hardly any useful crops that would grow on these Hebridean marches, but the amazing breeds of sheep people keep there are used to finding the tiniest edible morsels and blades of fresh grass while climbing between these rocky and ragged mountains.

Lofoten awakening seeing us on the road around 4am to get to Henningsvaer where we hoped for spectacular sunrise images from the perfect point of view of that island with its enormous mountain backdrop. The drive there was ever so delightful with morning mist rising from the dense forest to both sides of the lonely road :)

This is another impression from our journey criss-crossing Iceland's Westfjords, this image showing the "root" of a fjord where the road turns around. Every fjord has got its own style of mountain range and I guess that locals could recognise which fjord they are in just from having a look at thos emountains.

Dusty spends as much time indoors now as he does outside. He still likes to go out and see what's happening on the street. But he is very careful.

This photo is all about backlighting and shade. Monochrome shows this off best because we are not distracted by the colour.
