From the "senses" series: Vision

If someone sees something, they react. Cause-effect. According to Pavlov, reflexes could be conditioned. If you don't see, you don't react. But if vision is deprived from you and you know and watch that you don't see because someone doesn't want you to see, you react. Cause-effect.

All I want is a room with a view

A sight worth seeing, a vision of you

All I want is a room with a view

Oh

I will give you my finest hour

The one I spent watching you shower

I will give you my finest hour

Oh yeah

All I want is a photo in my wallet

A small remembrance of something more solid

All I want is a picture of you

Picture this, a day in December

Picture this, freezing cold weather

You got clouds on your lids and you'd be on the skids

If it weren't for your job at the garage

If you could only, oh

Picture this, a sky full of thunder

Picture this, my telephone number

One and one is what I'm telling you

Oh yeah

A total portrait with no omissions

All I want is a vision of you

Oh, if you can

Eilean Donan Castle went through several phases of development from the earliest fortifications of the 13th century through to its destruction in 1719, and the subsequent reconstruction in the 20th century. The first phase comprised a curtain wall enclosing much of the island with a tower house added in the 14th century. In the 14th or 15th century the outer wall was abandoned and a smaller enclosure built around the tower house. More development within this courtyard took place in the 16th century, as well as the addition of defences on the eastern side. The castle was almost totally destroyed in 1719, after which almost 200 years passed before reconstruction began. Although some archaeological evidence has been recovered from the island, much material was lost during the reconstruction works making it difficult to build a clear picture of the early castle. Very little historical evidence survives.

The castell of Ylen Donen is composed of a strong and fair dungeon upon a rock, with another tower compasd with a fair barmkin wall, with orchards and trees, al within ane yland of the lenth of twa pair of butts almost round. It is sayd of old that castel consisted of seven tours.

The only drawing of the castle prior to its destruction was made in 1714 by Lewis Petit (c. 1665–1720), a military engineer with the Board of Ordnance who came to Scotland in 1714 to survey Fort William and other defences in the area. Among the drawings he produced are a plan and elevation of Eilean Donan, which clearly show that the castle was largely derelict by this time, with only a building at the southeast corner being roofed. In the 13th century, a curtain wall or wall of enceinte was constructed around the island, enclosing most of the area above the high tide line. Scant remains of these walls can be traced on the ground, running around the northern end of the island. The eastern and southern segments of this wall are largely obscured by later development, although the enclosure is assumed to have contained an area of around 3,000 square metres (32,000 square feet). At the northern point of the wall the foundations of a large tower survive, measuring around 12 by 13 metres (39 by 43 ft) and the remains of foundations suggest further towers at the north-east and southwest corners of the enclosure. The enclosure was accessed via a sea-gate in the north-west curtain wall, where a small beach would have allowed boats to be drawn up. Another beach to the southwest may have formed a second access. Archaeological excavations in 2008 and 2009 confirmed the presence of these walls, and also found evidence that metalworking was taking place in the northern part of the castle. A tower house or keep was built against the curtain wall at the high point of the island, probably in the 14th century. The tower measured 16.5 by 12.4 m (54 ft 2 in by 40 ft 8 in), with walls 3 m (9 ft 10 in) thick. The vaulted ground floor was originally divided in two, with a stair in the north wall giving access to the first-floor hall. Above this were probably another two storeys, including a garret. The tower, according to Petit's later drawing, was topped by crowstep gables, and surrounded by a walkway and bartizans (small turrets) at the corners.

At an unknown period, probably in the later 14th century or early 15th century, the outer wall was abandoned in favour of a smaller defensive enclosure, around 25 m (82 ft) square. The entrance to this smaller courtyard was from the east. The reasons for this change are unclear, though it is suggested that the smaller area would have been easier to defend. During the 16th century, two buildings were added to the southern periphery of the enclosure. A small house was constructed within the southeast angle of the wall, with a circular stair-tower on its northern side giving access to the walkway along the eastern curtain wall. Located just inside the gate, this is likely to have served as a house for the castle's constable or keeper, and is the only building shown with a roof on Petit's survey. At the southwest corner of the enclosure, an L-plan block was put up, possibly as late as the early 17th century. The southern part is sited outside the line of the inner curtain wall, with a northern wing, which may have been a slightly later addition, inside the wall.

A mural chamber within the keep

In the later 16th century, the castle was extended eastward to create a bastion or "hornwork", providing a more securely defended entrance. The hornwork comprises a pair of walls enclosing a triangular courtyard, linking the east wall of the castle with an irregular hexagonal (or heptagonal) structure. This structure, 11.5 m (37 ft 9 in) across, contains a well at its lowest level, 5 m (16 ft) across and 10 m (33 ft) deep. This led MacGibbon and Ross to describe the structure as a water tower or cistern. However, the presence of a door on its eastern side is shown in 19th century photographs, indicating that it was built as the main entrance to the castle. The water-filled interior would have been crossed by a removable bridge, presenting an obstacle to attackers. From the bridge, access to the castle would have been up a flight of steps, into the triangular courtyard, and through the gate in the east curtain wall. It is possible that the hexagonal bastion was roofed to serve as an artillery position. Dredging of the reservoir in 1893 recovered two brass guns, referred to as "double hagbuts", and measuring around 1 m (3 ft) long with a bore of around 25 millimetres (1 in). Also recovered was a yett, an iron gate, probably installed in the east door to the bastion, but now on display inside the castle. At some point in the 17th century, this elaborate access was abandoned and a more convenient entrance opened in the south wall of the hornwork. By 1714, Lewis Petit's drawing clearly shows that the castle was largely derelict, with only the house at the southeast corner being roofed. Four years later, it was completely demolished, and, by 1912, very little of the castle was still standing.

The present castle buildings are entirely the result of 20th-century reconstruction by Gilstrap-Macrae, who commissioned Edinburgh architect George Mackie Watson to draw up the plans. Although the rebuilding followed the extant ground plan, the details of the present castle differ from its original appearance. The survey drawings by Lewis Petit were not rediscovered until the restoration was almost complete, and the restorers therefore were forced to rely on less accurate interpretations such as the work of MacGibbon and Ross, who attempted a plan of the remains in the late 19th century. The clerk of works, Farquhar Macrae, is said to have based the reconstruction on a dream in which he saw the restored Eilean Donan.Rather than a genuinely medieval castle, Eilean Donan is described as "a romantic reincarnation in the tradition of early 20th-century castle revivals." John Gifford, analysing the building against the Petit survey, notes a "fussy elaboration of what was probably plain originally, and an omission of decoration where it once existed", and describes the interior as "a rubbly Edwardian stage-set for life in the Middle Ages".

The castle is today entered from the south, via a modern portal complete with a portcullis. Above the door is a Gaelic inscription which in translation reads: "As long as there is a Macrae inside, there will never be a Fraser outside", referring to a bond of kinship between the two clans, and a similar inscription which once adorned the Fraser's home at Beaufort Castle. Above this is carved the coat of arms of John Macrae-Gilstrap. The portal gives access to the courtyard, the level of which has been lowered exposing the bedrock around the tower house. The present buildings at the southeast of the castle reflect the form of the earlier structures, including the circular stair tower, but are larger in extent. To the southwest only the southern portion of the L-shaped block was reconstructed, as a plain three-storey house, while in place of the northern wing is an open platform giving views over the loch. A small tower occupies the north-west angle. The keep itself follows the original dimensions, though the formerly subdivided ground floor is now a single room: the tunnel-vaulted Billeting Hall. Above on the first floor is the Banqueting Hall with an oak ceiling, and decorated with coats of arms and 15th-century style fireplace. The main ceiling beams in the Banqueting Hall are of Douglas Fir and were shipped from British Columbia, Canada as a gift from the Macraes of Canada. Small mural chambers within the walls are accessed from each hall.

The existence of the Saint Thomas Bridge has been proven since 1197.

The bridge has only one arch with a span of 31.10 m. The omission of pillars made it possible to narrow the river bed at this point, so that a new river bank could be built later. The structure consists of four hollow, oval cast-iron tubes supported by two strong abutments founded on concrete. Since it was then much easier to cast half-pipes than bent pipes, sections were made from left and right half-pipes and joined together in a staggered manner so that the end of one section was in the middle of the section of the other half. Unlike the Pont du Carrousel in Paris, the pipes remained empty. On the arches are rings of decreasing diameter that support the bridge deck.

Don’t say it aloud,

don’t let the coastal span of another utterance

roll off your tongue.

It’s a subtle, innate, human skill

of non-articulation, omission, awkwardness,

concealing something light behind your heart,

something so light, so sweet, so unshareable,

this wild generosity of not burdening anyone

with things that might make their face twitch.

And then speech starts, like the start of a cold,

it warms your lungs, and the fever sets in,

and since early August anxious people have been wandering around

glowing from within with this mysterious light.

If there is anything in this world that boils my piss, leaves my blood over reduced and my tension simmering is human cruelty, particularly when it is carried out by lying via omission of awareness of the problem that's so apparent it's glowing in the dark. This photograph, which is radically departing from my usual material, is the photographic evidence that voting changes nothing, we are NOT living in a civilised society and the lyrics to the song Affirmation by Savage Garden said it all...

I believe the struggle for financial freedom isn't fair

I believe the only ones who disagree are millionaires

It's time we crushed the cruelty of the powers that should not be and take back our sovereign right for freedom and right to choose, which is what the 1.8 million people protested for in London on Saturday!

On that merry note I hope everyone had a great weekend; for the week ahead I wish you all the best, and so as always, thank you! :)

PS: When you saw this photo you thought, "a homeless person" no one thinks "a human suffering!"

....well it would have been rude not to call in, but I think my time in Bleahab has worked as no tripods were used...and it was a lovely evening so it would have been an omission not to....

1953-54 Arvin model 780 TFM AM-FM table radio dial. The radio was produced not long after the longstanding 88-108 MHz FM radio band (initially 88-106 MHz in 1945, for a short time) was standardized in the US.

The implementation of a separate FM scale on a typical AM dial is rather unique, if confusing at first. One glaring omission, maybe just due to timing, is the set of marks at 640 and 1240 kHz on the AM dial for the now-long-defunct CONELRAD alert system, a design requirement for radios sold between 1953 and '63.

The water is like a mirror as a consequence of the long exposure that has 'silkened' any ripples that there were. The photo was taken when the sun was completely hidden, so it was almost dark. However, depending of your screen, you can see the photo darker than it is.

Comments are welcome and thanks in advance!

Please, I always try to reciprocate all the comments that I receive, if I miss some comment, do not get angry with me, is not deliberate, is only an omission. Yesterday, I realized that a guy from Canada removed me from his contacts list because he did not feel enough reciprocated, so it makes me feel sad.

Living right next door to the nature reserve at Brockadale I expected that I would have already managed to photograph these beautiful birds. Thankfully on an early morning walk a couple of days ago I managed to put right this omission.

Can you imagine viewing London with no people?

When I set out to photograph London at night, my main goal was to capture the city, one of the most populated in the world, empty. That's right. I aimed to have no people in the photographs. One would think this would be a challenging task, though it really hasn't been. The real challenge is London's rapidly changing skyline.

I would photograph an area around the Square Mile, then need to return as an omission of a particular new building would have been too obvious. The Shard is a prime example. There are super images captured from Tower Bridge in my London photo library, but The Shard is either non-existent or in various stages of construction. Needless to say, the photos ended up on the "cutting room floor."

Well, Hello Shard! Hello Walkie Talkie! Hello Cheesegrater! Your emergence created issues and slowed the progress of my project. I had to return to your area more times than once. This is not a complaint. I love capturing London with my camera, but the changes have been more obvious to me and I tend to be a perfectionist. My goal to get it right makes me return over and over again.

All that said, with a diversion, London at night is simply beautiful. When the lights come on the city shines gloriously, and seems to be a bit more stately, or grand. What is missed during the day, stands out at night almost demanding due attention.

E intanto continua a piovere. Smetterà mai?

Without a doubt there very well may be omissions as I have gathered the information from public sources. Cheers

The road to the chapel. Brompton Cemetery was designed by architect, Benjamin Baud with at its centre a modest domed chapel dated 1839, designed in the style of the basilica of St. Peter's in Rome reached by long colonnades, and flanked by catacombs.

Apart from the two subsidiary chapels in the 'Great Circle', the only important omissions from Baud's original layout plans were the arcades which he had envisaged for the formation of a large courtyard in front of the principal chapel; but it may well be that in their continuous search for economy the directors had reduced the quality and embellishment of his first designs.

I attempted a dark foreground without loosing atmosphere and details so that the focal point can be the bright sky in the distance with the light coming through slightly from the central arched window.

Today I had the pleasure of spending time with one of my dearest friends at Buttonwoods Farm in Connecticut. These junctures are fleeting as the sunflowers in this immense field will soon become a deliberate act of omission. Within the last week many of the sunflowers have already succumbed to an early grave.

Greeting to my virtual friends that give the greatest gift; their time commenting, faving and dreaming.

NO?

Symbolism

"The muscari is one of the great omissions from flower dictionaries... In fact, very few books or articles deal with the symbolism of this spring plant. However, according to our research, muscari is associated with commitment to love. It is used to show the person you love how serious you are and/or as a prelude to marriage.

If you had to translate this into a message, it might read: "I vow to love and support you for the rest of my life", "We were made for each other", "I will be with you for the rest of my life" or "I will be with you for the rest of my life". We're made for each other", "I want to spend the rest of my life with you", "I want to spend the rest of my life with you". I want to spend the rest of my life by your side" or some other romantic AND sincere promise!"

* I never visited Sainte-Chapelle on my previous trips to Paris , it was completely off my radar. I am glad I finally rectified this omission as its an extraordinary building . Having visited Chartres , Reims and Bourges I thought I had seen the best stained glass in France but Sainte-Chapelle took it to another level. It was like walking into a vast kaleidoscope the windows appeared to float given the minimal stone supports . It was obviously built to the glory of God and to please a king however I marvel at the ingenuity and imagination of the thirteenth century craftsman and builders who created this glorious example of human civilisation .

A little information

The Sainte-Chapelle is a royal chapel in the Gothic style, within the medieval Palais de la Cité, the residence of the Kings of France until the 14th century, on the Île de la Cité in the River Seine in Paris. Construction began some time after 1238 and the chapel was consecrated on 26 April 1248. The Sainte-Chapelle is considered among the highest achievements of of Gothic architecture. it has one of the most extensive 13th-century stained glass collections anywhere in the world.

The windows dominate the chapel and the stone wall surface is reduced too little more than a delicate framework. Arranged across 15 windows, each 15 metres high, the stained glass panes depict 113 scenes from the Old and New Testaments recounting the history of the world until the arrival of the relics in Paris. The huge windows fill the nave and apse, while a large rose window with Flamboyant tracery (added to the upper chapel c. 1490) dominates the western wall.

THE TRUTH ALWAYS COMES OUT.

I created this image to represent a simple and unavoidable idea: sooner or later, truth rises to the surface.

Even when someone tries to bury it, darken it, distort it, or keep it hidden, truth always finds a way through.

In this scene, the dark glass becomes a metaphor for a mind filled with omissions, silence and lies — yet something inside still moves, emerges, ignites, and breaks the surface. It is that precise moment when what was hidden becomes visible, and pretending is no longer possible.

I am creating a series of images inspired by proverbs because proverbs are the moral memory of humanity: in just a few words they contain experience, wounds, justice, irony, and survival.

I chose to create them digitally with Artificial Intelligence not because this technology can replace photography or “pure” art, but because I want to use a new tool without becoming its servant.

I want to bend the instrument to my own language — turning it into poetic provocation and visual protest.

Before the virtual becomes a weapon against human beings, I use it to remind human beings who they are.

And above all, to remind that truth — even when buried — always comes out.

the British Isles as well as two members of an enigmatic suite of breccias known as the Gash Breccias. The weathered limestone has been investigated thoroughly in order to identify the process responsible for the weathering.

Studies show that the weathering is isovolumetric but the weathering profile is not characterised by a vertical gradient and its depth suggests that meteoric waters did not contribute significantly to the weathering process.

The weathered limestone has lost significant amounts of calcium and parts are virtually decalcified.

It is seen that the dominant primary minerals of illite and quartz have been preserved while secondary clay minerals are generally absent. The weathered limestone cannot be a saprolite sensu stricto as it has been subjected to only restricted chemical processes. It is, therefore, interpreted as a “ghost-rock”.

This type of weathering results from chemical dissolution by slow moving waters in the saturated zone. It is suggested that the weathering may have taken place during periods of emergence in the Carboniferous, at the same time as the cyclothem tops were exposed to subaerial modification, as evidenced by omission surfaces and palaeokarstic solution features.

This is the first time that ghost-rock weathering has been reported from the British Isles.

The great omission in American life is solitude. . . that zone of time and space, free from the outside pressures, which is the incinerator of the spirit.

c'è tempo

labile

settimana 11-17 settembre

Ariete (21 marzo - 19 aprile)

Ti chiedo inoltre di ripetere queste frasi almeno venti volte: “So esattamente cosa voglio. So esattamente cosa non voglio.

Wake up, Americans, and defend your liberties!

'[T]he White House has created a website that lists media outlets and reporters who, according to the government, publish false, biased or misleading stories.

The new "Media Offenders" website includes featured "Offenders of the Week" as well as a "Hall of Shame" that consists of four pages (at time of publication) of media reports the White House has sorted into the categories bias, lie, false claim, malpractice, omission of context, mischaracterization, circular reporting, failure to report and left-wing lunacy.

[...]

Anything but a fully free press goes against the very DNA of the country. The first amendment to the US Constitution reads, in part, "Congress shall make no law … abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press …"

In 1776, lawmakers in colonial Virginia passed a declaration of rights that noted the importance of a free press: "The freedom of the press is one of the greatest bulwarks of liberty, and can never be restrained but by despotic governments."

[...]

[T]he "Media Offenders" website, along with the Pentagon's reporting restrictions and Trump's lawsuits against several media outlets publishing unfavorable stories about him, is a sign of how unprecedented the current US government's antagonism against the press is.'

The falling blossoms

Look at them, it is the storm

That is chasing them

The sensory language of Haiku-poetry…a Japanese lyrical art-form from the 1600’s.

Haiku-poetry exhibits a rigid 5-7-5 structure and does not have to rhyme. It is very precise in it’s expression of nature and of feelings, always placed in the present tense, and contains very few words. The omission of a single element would result in the verse “falling apart”, losing it’s meaning.

There is no place for abstract imagery within the Haiku universe. Its language is short and precise and leaves the reader with no doubt as to its meaning.

Matsuo Basho (1644-1694) is often considered ”the father” of Haiku but it is not known exactly when the first haiku was written. The earliest examples of haiku-like verses are in the 1235 Hyakunin Isshu anthology, compiled by Fujiwara no Teika.

In this example of the pre-Haiku era, the first kana is of course at the top of the perpendicular, but the text is in just one line and not in the rigid 5-7-5 structure of Haiku. (No rules without exceptions).

Amazingly I havn't featured a singleton 'Hanson in the Sun' on Flickr since last June, nearly a full year ago! So i though i would remedy that omission tonight...Here is 59101 against a nice darkened backdrop with '7C64' the 15:25 from Acton-TC going down to Merehead Quarry.

From the poem ‘Immigrant Song’ by Sun Yung Shin

The great omission in American life is solitude; not loneliness, for this is an alienation that thrives most in the midst of crowds, but that zone of time and space, free from the outside pressures, which is the incubator of the spirit.

Rob Brezsny, per la settimana 25 giugno - 1 luglio

Ariete (21 marzo - 19 aprile)

Cos’hai in programma adesso?

Bilancia (23 settembre - 22 ottobre)

Negli ultimi mesi hai perso qualcosa, Bilancia?

in my today's helplessness towards this never ending terror of murder by omission, i just had the notion of repeating a little ceremony...

nell'omissione e nell'adempimento,

Tu come lei invisibile

Giovanni Raboni

in my today's helplessness towards this never ending terror of murder by omission, i just had the notion of repeating a little ceremony...

Not my photo. One glaring omission from the Art Deco exhibition at Joslyn was this engine. No photo, toy/model, anything. This engine is perhaps the pinnacle of Art Deco in railroading, which is why I’ve put it here. None of these engines were saved, either. There is an unshrouded Hudson in Elkhart, IN, the western terminus of the New York Central.

Snapdragons and Curry Plant, not Curry Tree! SOOC

A cobalt blue glass vase of cut flowers and herbs from my winter garden in Tucson, Arizona.

I love using cobalt blue glasses as vases for cut flowers and foliage.

The white snapdragon flowers and the purple basil flowers are from my kitchen garden. I don't see any blue rosemary flowers. That was a definite omission. Shame on me!

Now the hard part:

The curry plant is in my garden. It smells like the spice curry or its ingredient cumin. It was in the herb section of Harlow Gardens in Tucson, Arizona. However, it is not the same as the Curry Tree that is originally from subtropical India. This plant is not an herb in my sense of the word, so I will be making inquiries at Harlow.

This appears to be my first posting of this as a straight out of the camera (SOOC) photo.
