Spot the two birds :)
For a change, this is a new (outside!) photo, taken just a few days ago at the wonderful Britzer Garten, one of Berlin's biggest and most beautiful public parks (please check my album for more "Britz bliss", if you like).
For better dynamic range, I've used exposure bracketing (three images), pre-processed the images in DXO PhotoLab (sharpness and DeepPrime denoising only), from which I directly went into HDR Efex Pro to combine the images. I'm trying to get away from the annual Adobe subscription, and combining images from an exposure bracketing series in HDR Efex instead of Lightroom is one step into that direction. Unfortunately, whenever I think I can finally leave Adobe behind for good they come up with improvements such as the new "supersize" function (now also available in LR), a ton of new presets for LR, and other interesting stuff (and I'm still used to the LR/PS workflow, and the layers in PS). Well, maybe I'll be ready next year ;)
Extra sliding was done in Color Efex, where I added some "Brilliance and Warmth" and a tiny bit of "Contrast Color Range".

In de jaren 2014-2017 was het altijd een verrassing welke loc de Bocholter Eisenbahn voor de keteltrein naar de KAO in Emmerich zou inzetten. Meestal was het hun V90 (die anno 2022 nog steeds onmisbaar is) en soms hun V200, V60 of (DR) V100. De laatstgenoemde, de BEG 202 271-3 (bouwjaar 1970) duwt de ene ketelwagen vanuit het industrieterrein richting Bahnhof Emmerich om vanuit daar de vrije baan op te gaan het Ruhrgebied in.

Les immeubles commerciaux sont de plus en plus construits à Berlin sous forme de "palais de verre", comme ici au Kranzler Eck.
The sun dipped low, casting a heavy, amber glow across the frost-touched grass of the ancient meadow. There, a lone pheasant moved with the grace of a forgotten king, his copper feathers burning like embers against the deepening shadows of the approaching night. Each step he took was a silent vow to the earth, a rhythmic dance of survival beneath a sky that bled crimson and gold.
He was not merely a bird, but a spirit of the twilight, searching for the last secrets hidden within the golden stalks. As the chill of the evening wind began to whisper through the trees, his vibrant plumage remained a defiant spark of life in the fading light. He belonged to the stillness, a poetic sentinel of the fields whose beauty was a transient masterpiece, destined to vanish into the velvet embrace of the dark.
Drama over the Frankfort Light
This is one of those images I have always thought had potential, but I could never seem to get the post processing to give me the right look. I took this photo back in September 2013 shortly after getting my first micro four thirds camera, the Olympus OM-D E-M5. Back in 2013, I was just getting started with processing RAW files using Lightroom. I come back to it on occasion, trying do to a better job with the highlights and shadows, but was never satisfied with my results. Today, I came back to this photo as I was browsing through my catalog and decided to give it a try in Luminar. While I could probably spend more time with it, I do think that I was able to get something that works and reflects the type of drama in the skies that I have always been trying to capture.
This family of Great Horned Owls was seen together after sunset, in Walnut Creek, California. Perhaps they were celebrating Spring!
Op 26 januari zag de wolkenradar er zeer positief uit, dus werd snel de auto ingestapt en richting Barneveld gereden om CD Cargo op te wachten. Al gauw bleek dat er nog een strook bewolking erg traag richting het oosten wegtrok, waardoor ik iets terug reed naar Hoevelaken. Hier kwam ik aan in de zon en waren al andere fotografen gesetteld.
CD Cargo zou later vertrekken dan ik had gehoopt maar er was inmiddels wel iets anders leuks onderweg. RRF passeerde met een Millet keteltrein de inmiddels flink uitgebreide groep fotografen in Hoevelaken onderweg naar Bad Bentheim. Hierna zal de trein verder richting oost Duitsland gaan.
Dies ist einer meiner ersten Stack-Versuche mit dem neuen Godox Blitz und Cygnustech Diffuser.
Die Raubfliege saß zum Glück oben auf einem hölzernen Zaunpfahl in angenehmer Arbeitshöhe 😉

Eens in het jaar breng ik graag een dagje door in het Venloër bos en dan natuurlijk het liefst wanneer de herfstkleuren op z'n mooist zijn. Het zoeken naar de juiste dag is ieder jaar weer spannend want je bent afhankelijk van diverse factoren. Zo moet het bovenal bewolkt zijn, maar bij voorkeur wel droog. De herfstkleuren ontwikkelen zich ieder jaar toch weer anders, maar meestal zijn ze pas halverwege november op z'n mooist. Een herfststorm kan daarentegen al vroeg roet in het eten gooien.
En dan wil je ook nog wat (leuke) goederentreinen fotograferen. Dan is de volledige stremming bij Emmerich momenteel wel een uitkomst, want daardoor rijden er veel meer treinen dan normaal over Venlo. Ik besloot voor zaterdag 16 november te kiezen want op zaterdag heb je altijd de SETG-trein en dan zie je daarna wel hoe de rest van de dag verloopt. Dat ik niet de enige was zou blijken, maar samen met andere bekende en onbekende fotografen is het wachten wel veel gezelliger.
Na SETG en SBB "bergop" midden in het bos te hebben vastgelegd kwam de melding dat LTE in aantocht was met een verlate containertrein uit Mannheim/Wörth. Aangezien deze trein de vorige dag met een blauwe 186 richting Duitsland vertrok, was het flink doorlopen om de stek bij het hotel nog tijdig te bereiken. Buiten adem werd gelukkig op tijd de plek bereikt en niet veel later rolde de 186 942 de berg af Venlo in met een volledig beladen en kleurrijke containertrein richting de Waalhaven Zuid.
