This is another of the rabbits that have been showing up in our yard of late. I find its bright blue eyes quite striking.

A Cooper's hawk scans the nearby trees for any unsuspecting song birds that haven't already figured out he's around. My mom's nickname for my dad was "redeye" which I suspected dated back to their college years, and had nothing to do with Cooper's hawks.

Cooper's hawk populations have risen over the past 5 decades, unlike most song birds which have declined precipitously due to loss of habitat.

He’s growing up quickly. Meeting other dogs and wanting to play; meeting humans and is great.

Turning out to be a lovely boy.

I spotted this drake Pochard feeding fairly close to the bank on my local pit. I got in position while it was beneath the surface which enabled me to take a few shots when he surfaced again.

Gently peel and intertwine

They create character and colors

To me, the scars represent all I’ve done and seen

My scars, to me, are all that I’ve been

I’m not a victim of a crime

I’m simply me and sublime

Take me as I am, patina and all

Take me as I am, before I need a shawl! 😂

My second image in the Betsy series. I think art and laughter are needed sometimes. Enjoy your weekend Flickr Friends!

Heading out from the Falklands, we were fortunate to have a visit from a few South Georgia cormorants (aka shags). They can be difficult to differentiate from the Imperial cormorant. In the 'old days', both (along with the Antarctic cormorant and others) were lumped together as blue-eyed cormorants. Based on geographical location and the white cheek area, this one does appear to be a South Georgia version.

The blue eye is not the eye, but rather a ring of blue skin around the eye. And does it glow in the right light! They also have yellowish caruncles at the base of the upper mandible. Those can be fairly prominent.

If you notice the 'Taken on' field, you could say this, and a few albatross shots, was a Christmas present from Mother Nature.
