I couldn't quite believe my eyes when I saw this thing from another planet. Researching on it revealed that with 142m of length it's the world's largest sailing yacht SY A built in 2017, for a Russian oligarch as I expected. It's a Philippe Starck design and was built in the German Nobiskrug shipyard.

Seit jeher erfreut sich die Côte d'Azur auch bei der russischen Upper class großer Beliebtheit. Waren es im 19. und beginnenden 20. Jahrhundert noch überwiegend Aristokraten - so begegnet einem u.a. der Name Romanow, wenn man im milden Südfrankreich auf Spurensuche ist -, traten in den letzten Jahrzehnten die reichen Oligarchen des "neuen" Russlands an ihre Stelle. Entsprechend wurde auch bereits vor dem Ersten Weltkrieg eine Bahnverbindung zwischen Russland und der Côte d’Azur eingerichtet: Von 1898 bis 1914 ging es per Luxuszug von St. Petersburg über Wien und Nizza nach Cannes, wobei die Fahrgäste damals in Warschau zwischen dem breitspurigen russischen Zug und seinem von der Compagnie Internationale des Wagons-Lits (CIWL) betriebenen mitteleuropäischen Pendant umsteigen mussten. Aufgrund seiner großen Beliebtheit im Hochadel der russischen und Habsburger Monarchie führte er inoffiziell auch den Namen „Train des Grand-Ducs“.
Fast 100 Jahre später nahm die RŽD im Jahre 2010 die traditionsreiche Verbindung wieder auf, wenn auch in abgewandelter Form. Als besonderes Aushängeschild sollte von nun an ein durchgehender Zug vom Weißrussischen Bahnhof in Moskau bis unter die geschwungenen Bögen der Bahnsteighalle von Nizza rollen. Die Bestellung moderner Weitstreckenwagen, die auch auf der mitteleuropäischen Regelspur freizügig eingesetzt werden konnten, machte es möglich. Es war sicher einer der spannendsten - und längsten - Zugläufe in der zweiten Dekade des 21. Jahrhunderts.
Das Ende des Prestigeprojekts kam dann unerwartet von einem Tag auf den anderen - Wie so vieles, was im Frühjahr 2020 geschah. Die Corona-Pandemie, die sich von Norditalien aus ihren Weg durch Europa bahnte, sollte nicht nur unseren Alltag in zuvor kaum vorstellbarem Maße über den Haufen werfen, sondern führte auch dazu, dass der "Moskau-Nizza-Express" am 5. März 2020 eingestellt wurde - "Vorübergehend", wie es zunächst hieß...
Doch seitdem aus Moskau nicht mehr nur Liebesgrüße nach Westen versendet werden, scheint auch das Schicksal des Nachtzugs an die Côte d'Azur besiegelt. Spätestens mit dem Angriff auf die Ukraine am 24. Februar 2022 dürfte wohl jedem klar geworden sein, dass es so bald keine Zugverbindung mehr von Russland ins französische Urlaubsparadies geben wird.
Am 20. Februar 2016 standen russische Truppen zwar auch längst auf der Krim und im Donbas, aber zumindest der "Moskau-Nizza-Express" rollte dessen ungeachtet durch Europa, ebenso wie sein Pendant nach Paris. Die viel zitierte Zeitenwende, die heute in aller Munde ist, war eben noch nicht vollzogen. So glitt im goldenen Morgenlicht des Wintertages EN 17 (Moskva Belorusskaya - Nice Ville) bei Mortola Inferiore unweit der italienisch-französischen Grenze in gemächlichem Tempo um die Kurve. Die ersten Sonnenstrahlen umspielten dabei die charakteristische "Nase" der führenden BB 22331, die den Zug erst kurz zuvor im Grenzbahnhof Ventimiglia von einem "Caimano" der Trenitalia übernommen hatte.

Some members of the local press have dubbed these structures "Billionaire needles." By the way this building on E22nd Street you can get a studio for only four million and the top apartment is a four bedroom three bath that goes for the modet price of fourteen million dollars. To add insult to injury many of these luxury condos are brought up by drug cartels, corrupt foreign oligarchs and other unsavory types for the purpose of money laundering or hiding assets. Meanwhile there are many people paying $1400 a month to live in a chopped (Usually a two or three bedroom apartment that has been divided into two smaller apartments for higher profit.) one bedroom apartment in bad parts of the Bronx. Oh yes want a similar apartment in a safer predominantly white neighborhood in the outer boroughs better be ready to pay another grand. Want a similar apartment in Manhattan better be ready to another one to two grand more over the outer borough price. New York City has gone out of it's way drive the middle class out of the city and decades of corrupt politicians capitulating to greedy realtors has left a disappearing middle class that's never coming back and numerous and ever growing vacant storefronts scattered throughout the city.
The weather in Belfast, just like her fate, is everlastingly changing. At one moment, there was optimal sunshine and at another, rains and downpours, and ideally rainbow or even rainbows afterwards. With the coming Brexit under Boris Johnson, one wonders if there will be any subsequent rainbow.

"Heckler" is an original artwork that both parodies and laughs at the Comedian.
A notable departure is that the banana here is not duct taped; as a mouth, its speech is unencumbered by the silencing duct tape of the world's billionaire oligarchs. Created on a horizontal surface, the gravitational pull of an ENTIRE PLANET holds the banana in place, as it holds each of us every day; yet, a small child has the power to defy the planet's pull and lift the banana, symbolic of how we can lift one another up against seemingly impossible odds. The banana is ripe with meaning and rich in potassium.

Das Bild zeigt das Trockendock Elbe 17 der Werft Blohm + Voss im Hamburger Hafen, in dem eine große Yacht gewartet wird. Das Dock Elbe 11 ist eines der größten Trockendocks Europas und wird für Reparaturen und Wartungsarbeiten an großen Schiffen genutzt. Im Hintergrund ist die Elbphilharmonie zu sehen.
Diese Superyacht heißt ECLIPSE und gehörte 2020 als ich das Bild aufnahm dem russischen Oligarchen Abramowitsch.
Was heute aus dem Eigner und dem Schiff geworden ist, ist mir unbekannt.
Nach vier Monaten einer angstrengenden aber guten Zeit....wieder unterwegs mit Kamera und meinem Freund Werner.

Diese bislang größte Überblicksausstellung in Deutschland zeigt mit rund 100 Werken die ganze Bandbreite von Mehretus Schaffen, von ihren frühen, urbanistisch geprägten Linienzeichnungen der 1990er Jahre bis zu ihren jüngsten, spektakulären abstrakten Gemälden. Präsentiert werden auch zeitbasierte Medien, die von Mehretus Werk inspiriert sind, wie ein Musikalbum, ein Dokumentarfilm und eine Videoarbeit. Die Ausstellung zeigt Mehretus kreativen Prozess. Häufig geht sie von Medienbildern politischer Ereignisse und historischer Schauplätze aus und übersetzt diese in abstrakte Kompositionen, die sie mit Notationen, Übermalungen und Abklebungen überzieht. Mit einer Auswahl von Mehretus Referenzmaterial und teils nie gezeigten Papierarbeiten kontextualisiert die Ausstellung im K21 das konzeptuelle Denken hinter den Arbeiten der Künstlerin.

der Künstlerin Nairy Baghramian. Die Ergebnisee werden "Trans-Paintings" genannt und gehören zu ihren neuesten Arbeiten. Trump und und der von dem amerikanischen Oligarchen Peter Thiel in der Politik installierte JD Vance werden diese Bilder (weil "trans") sicher bald verbieten, als entartete Kunst.
Seit Monaten war ich wieder zusammen mit Werner fotografieren. Wir machten etwa das gleiche Foto vom gleichen Standort mit Kameras eines gleichen Herstellers und 2 verschiedenen Linsen und die Ergebnisse der jeweiligen Sensoren waren sehr unterschiedlich. Hildes Bild war quasi sooc brauchbar, die Ausgabe meiner Kamera war noch stark bearbeitungsbedürftig. Wir haben beide Arbeiten gemeinsam durch Photoshop gebracht und wollten sie gleichzeitig zeigen.

Dit jacht is eigendom van de Russische miljardair Andrey Melnichenko, is 142 meter lang en heeft een waarde van maarliefst 500 miljoen euro. But Britain has now outlived her ultimate prosperity being stagnant overall but nonetheless wealthy. On the other hand, the way United States took over the world's hegemony was more abrupt, and it's decline is so much faster. In terms of major social, political, and economic indicators, the degree of zombification and decay in US has left the United Kingdom way behind.
What I mean by zombification is particularly relevant in terms of vertical mobility as far as the whole economy is concerned. The chance of the children from the lower class getting into the middle class, with the middle class students merging with the elites are so slim. By elites, I am not referring to the cultural elites, either scholarly or ideologically, but the oligarchs who dominate and monopolize all the economic achievements, what the Americans call the "top 1% ". Ever since the late stage of Cold War, American society, which originally exemplify high vertical mobility, geared into a reversal. After the Cold War, this process continued to accelerate. Today, the United States is stuck with the lowest social mobility among the the advanced countries. To make things worse, not only is there a wide and deep divergence dividing the classes up, actually not only is the lower class but even the middle class are also being ransacked systemically, so that the gap is getting wider and wider. Say for instance, the median income as a whole in US has become basically stagnant for the past 30 years. And more than 90% of the economic growth in the period went into the pocket of the top 1%. Such phenomena also happened in the United Kingdom, but only to a lesser extent by far.
I have been saying for the last few years that such a change started in early 1970s when the American oligarchs pushed back against President Johnson ’s “Great Society" policies. Actually, there were three main axis:
1) Deteriorating quality of the public education has left the middle and lower class students with a higher hurdle when competing for university placement, so they are categorically excluded from the elite class. This problem comes not only from the lousy Libtard "education experts" but also through the encouragement and indulgence of the vested class both by means of propaganda and political shaping. The United Kingdom has at least recognized the severity and has set about making reforms; the United States is devoid of both the will and the capability to reform.
2) De-industrialization and financialization of the economy came just too rapid, making the transition of the middle class impossible. Financial sector is inherently disposed to monopolize the whole of market profits. Globalization has further promoted the outsourcing of manufacturing jobs, a great impetus to give up employment in lieu of higher profits. Under Liberal Economics-led policies, both countries are pushed to the extreme in the pursuit of forever higher return rate. Britain and US work from shoulder to shoulder in this respect. As such, the salaried class are left with no choice other than either unemployment or the impotence to demand any salary increase or both. Britain has at least universal health insurance and other welfare protections whereas the United States is somewhat inferior to the Third World countries in these aspects.
3) The rotting of the ruling class and the foolishness of voters from the lower and lower middle class complement each other, ensuring that any reforming force is "turned the other way round", cracking and deepening the division even further. I have already illustrated this process several times before logically and with supporting evidence, but the development of the past two years, and the retrogression especially after the election of President Trump ( such thing as tax cuts for the wealthy people), nonetheless is beyond the imagination of any people of the right mind. Such historic populism is phenomenal, it's a great leap forward from quantitative to qualitative change !

Der Ortsteil Triest Barcola wird von einem 270 m langen Backsteinviadukt aus dem Jahre 1857 überspannt.
Morgens bietet sich ein guter Blick von den höhergelegenen Straßen Barcolas auf den Viadukt und dem dahinterliegenden Golf von Triest. Im Golf ankert seit gut 3 Jahren die beschlagnahmte Segelyacht SY A eines russischen Oligarchen. Die linke Begrenzung bildet der Leuchtturm „Faro della Vittoria“.
Um 08:20 Uhr rollt der RE 3460 von Trieste Centrale nach Venezia Santa Lucia, befördert von 2 unbekannt gebliebenen E 464, über den Viadukt.

Sulla sinistra si vede La Lanterna, faro che entrò in funzione l'11 febbraio 1833 e fu disattivato in seguito alla costruzione nel 1927 del Faro della Vittoria sul poggio di Gretta.
La sua immagine è utilizzata come logo della Theresianer, marca di birra austro-ungarica fondata nella stessa Trieste nel 1766 da mastri birrai austriaci, chiamata cosi' in onore dell'imperatrice Maria Teresa d'Austria.

The Belle Epoque era neighborhood of La Americana still has many ornate mansions built by the oligarchs who formed the elite of Mexico at that time. This neighborhood is very bohemian in its character with chef-driven restaurants and boutique B&B's.

Russia's extreme suffering during the Second World War is one of the constituent elements of its political outlook today. The other is the post-communist re-integration of the sacred (in the shape of the Russian Orthodox Church) into the nationalist pantheon - Russia as the "Third Rome", the bastion and defender of true Christianity. These two elements combined with a deep anger about the collapse of the USSR and the advance of liberal Western culture (and NATO too) produce a potent mix of nationalist sentiments. Criticising these sentiments I must, but as a UK citizen I can do this only by acknowledging the hypocrisy going on in my own country, for example the fact that London for decades used to be the centre of the world when it comes to money laundering. Our political parties, one in particular, got used to accepting big donations from "oligarchs". In a way, the UK (and others) were quite content to do business with the nationalist monster rising up in the East.
My wife emigrated from Ukraine 20 years ago and is now a US Citizen. Her family still resides in Ukraine and Russia. It is not unusual that Russians and Ukrainian's are intermingled only separated now by a Dictator exercising genocide in order to maintain power and wealth for him and the Oligarchs who feel threatened by Ukrainian solidarity and freedoms influencing Russian life. This is a war not between Russia and Ukraine but a war that threatens the entire free world.
I found this huge yacht docked at Keppel Island in Singapore. Reading up on it, I realize it's the 10th largest yacht in the world, owned by Russian oligarch Viktor Rashnikov.
I only got a couple of shots before the tripod police came up on his bike, yelling "Sir! Sir!". Apparantly photography wasn't allowed.

Tate Modern has named its new extension the Blavatnik Building, after the USSR-born billionaire oligarch Len Blavatnik, who made one of the largest donations in Tate’s history.
The building opened in June 2016 and had been temporarily named Switch House, after the part of the old power station where the new galleries stand.
Blavatnik was named the UK’s richest man in 2015, with an estimated wealth of more than £17.1bn, which was accumulated through investment initially in chemicals and oil, but has since expanded into property, music and film.
He made the Tate pledge in 2011. Government and local authority grants for the new galleries totalled £58m and the Blavatnik Family Foundation’s donation made up a substantial amount of the £260m total needed to complete it. Since its opening, the Tate Modern extension has received more than 6 million visitors.
The Tate’s departing director, Nicholas Serota, said: “The generosity of this gift is almost unprecedented in Tate’s history.
“Len Blavatnik’s enthusiastic support ensured the successful realisation of the project and I am delighted that the new building now bears his name.”
