As the day wears on, the light is flat and undramatic and footprints of countless others will make your photography that much more difficult in searching out dunes that haven't been walked upon. This image offers some scale perspective for the falls and for the interesting rock formation situated to the left of the falls.
If you look closely along the top of the cliff face, at the point it slopes down to the water, you can see three people that had hiked over to the top of the falls. The most easily seen individual in the blue pants is right in the middle of the trio.

A 14th-century prince of the Jochid Mongols and a group of commanders are shown praying at the tomb of Imam Husayn, the grandson of the Prophet Muhammad and the third Imam of Shik Muslims. The prince is expressing his gratitude for receiving a share of water. The painting and its accompanying text allude to the Battle of Karbala in 61 AH / 680 AD where Husayn and his companions were denied access to water of the Euphrates River by the Opposing army.
According to medieval Islamic political theory and practice, one of the ways to establish oneself as a just and legitimate ruler was to ensure everyone in the kingdom had access to water and that wells are irrigation were maintained.

The combination of the mountain's rugged beauty and the serene surroundings of Harrison Mills makes it a favorite spot for photographers and nature enthusiasts alike.
Mount Cheam, also known as Cheam Peak, is a stunning mountain located in the Fraser Valley of British Columbia, near Chilliwack. It stands at an elevation of 2,104 meters (6,903 feet) and offers breathtaking 360-degree views of the Fraser Valley, Jones Lake, Mount Baker, and the surrounding peaks.
The hike to the summit is a popular activity, especially from July to October, when the trail is most accessible. The trail is about 9.5 kilometers round-trip with an elevation gain of 700 meters, making it a moderately challenging hike. Along the way, you'll pass through meadows filled with wildflowers, Spoon Lake, and switchbacks leading to the summit.
Reaching the trailhead requires a high-clearance 4x4 vehicle due to the rugged forest service road. The summit offers incredible views, but hikers are advised to stay cautious near the edges, as the terrain can be loose and steep.
Cheam Peak is another name for Mount Cheam—so it's the same breathtaking mountain! It's part of the Cheam Range in the Fraser Valley, known for its majestic presence and stunning panoramas. The peak is a favorite for outdoor enthusiasts, offering a rewarding hike with views of the Fraser River, the city of Chilliwack, and beyond.

Most of the cars offered were in a relatively good shape. But some 15 cars were in a terrible condition, mostly caused by corrosion. I wonder what the value could be for the potential buyer. Spare parts? Garden object?
This pre-war Steyr Typ 50 was one of them.
The streamlined Steyr Typ 50 was developed in 1935 by engineer/director Karl Jenschke (1899-1969). The official presentation followed in February 1936 at the IAMA in Berlin.
The Steyr 50 was designed according to the new streamlined ideas which became more and more popular in the first half of the 1930s. Jenschke knew streamline specialist Hans Ledwinka. Although one could expect that Ledwinka or Ferdinand Porsche were involved in the development of the Typ 50 is this not true.
The Steyr 50 was quite popular in its homeland Austria. It received there the name Steyr-Baby. In neighbor country Germany was very little interest for this small car.
Typ 50 was replaced by Typ 55 in Spring 1938. It had a stronger engine but had the same body and equipment.

"Need a light, soldier?"
Z. had requested "something noir" for his birthday. So, um, happy birthday, Z.
About a couple weeks ago I was offered a new career position at a major university. I thought and agonized about it for a few days. I made a list and I weighed the pros and cons of staying in Southern Utah or moving elsewhere. In the end, I turned down the career move.
One reason why I turned down the job offer is because of scenes like this and the ease and accessibility of getting to it whenever I want. It might not be a big reason for some but as a photographer outside of my day job this is important to me. I’m very fortunate to live in such a beautiful and unique part of the world. Many landscape photographers would love to live where I am. Heck, people from all over the world come and visit Utah as a once in a lifetime trip.
This was photographed earlier in the summer but I haven’t released this photo until now. I’m excited to hike and photograph the Narrows one final time this weekend. I’m hoping to get a couple more pictures of a couple places I missed earlier in the summer.
Southern Utah will draw you in with its beauty and it will keep you coming back. In my case the beauty of Southern Utah kept me here for the foreseeable future.

On this day I made a shopping tour in Düsseldorf.
Here you see me at the big store „ Saturn“ , Königsallee.
It was unexpectedly hot on that day so I had to take off my skirt and jacket..... I like to play with fire! 😊
As I learned later, there should have been a bait offer on this day somewhere on the escalators; I did not notice that.🤔
In future, it will no longer be possible to con European citizens with "bait offers" .
The EU wants to change the rules ! 😩

When I lived in Jackson Mississippi I would go out on my lunch break with my camera. The bank I worked for was only 2 blocks from the State Capitol building which was built 1903. It’s on a gorgeous plot of land with old growth Oaks which offers several blocks of wonderfully shaded sidewalks. During lunch many downtown folks walk around there for a break from the office. I would often see these two ladies always dressed in the same long bright dresses, long sleeves and floppy woven hats. When these two walked, they were on a mission. They have a special power walk gate and they walk with purpose. I was always impressed with their determination.

Offered in the US from model year 1997 to 2001, the Catera was a badge-engineered Opel Omega made in Rüsselsheim, Germany.
The advertisements for it featured supermodel Cindy Crawford, some of which speaking to an animated duck-like character (technically the bird is a martlet) named 'Ziggy', who lasted maybe 2 years.
It wasn't derided as much as GM's earlier, badge-engineered Cadillac Cimarron was, a car that was easily recognized that it had the same body as the economy Chevrolet Cavalier except with Caddy end caps. But the Catera wasn't a great seller, either, finishing its run of 5 years as a single-run model.
The one depicted has apparently survived and looks to be in very good condition.
My earlier photo, during the day, made me long for more. The Point offers you a wonderful view. So, I picked the blue hour for the second shot.
The bundle of light on the left side is a Brittany’s ferry slowly passing by; coming in from Bilbao, Spain. Sailing time is 24 hours.
Portsmouth (a.k.a. Pompey) is a port city and naval base on England’s south coast, situated on the Portsea Island. It’s known for its maritime heritage and Portsmouth historic dockyards.
Here you see the Spinnaker Tower, as part of the urban re-development of what had once been HM Gunwharf, Portsmouth. This was one of several such facilities which were established around Britain and the Empire by the Board of Ordnance, where cannons, ammunition and other armaments were stored, repaired and serviced ready for use on land or at sea. Later known as HMS Vernon, the military site closed in 1995. It opened to the public as Gunwharf Quays after six years of reconstruction; which included the restoration of some of the surviving 18th and 19th-century Gun Wharf buildings. The landmark Spinnaker Tower opened on October 2005 a few years later.
The Spinnaker Tower is a 170 metres (560 ft) landmark observation tower. Being taller than London Eye, Blackpool Tower and Big Ben, the Spinnaker Tower has established itself as one of the national icons of Britain. Its shape was chosen by Portsmouth residents from a selection of entries. The tower, designed by local architectural firm called “HGP Architects” and engineering consultants Scott Wilson. It was built by Mowlem. Obviously, it reflects Portsmouth's maritime history through its modelled sail; a spinnaker.

Gunwharf Quays is now a waterfront outlet shopping center. Although, there are no gates, notices/signs or a visible entrance, it is not a public space. Private company rules apply. And one of them is that is not allowed to take pictures with the help of a three legged thing. Security is pretty strict about this. The many CCTV cams smell you from miles away. Although I was approached by a nice and very understanding security guard (who let me finish 1 or 2 photos during his lecture on the rules), I finally opted for an angle a bit further away; from The Point.
Technical stuff
This HDR consisting of one photo. The shot was done at 250ISO, f20, 30 seconds and 18mils. That I only used 30 seconds was motivated by the fact that the ferry at a longer exposure would no longer be recognisable as a ship but just white lines 😉.
De HDR process was done with the help of Aurora HDR 2018. Further post-production was done in Adobe Lightroom CC. It included, balancing the lighting, giving the image a bit more umph by using the curve tool, sharpening the image with the use of a High Pass tool and highlighting the dynamic nature of the ferry. Finally I added some small copyright signs. The latter is, alas, there to stay due to the frequent copying of my photos. So, don't bother commenting on that.
Cuba, near Viñales, a tobaco farmer whom we visited, picked three large dried tobaco leaves, rolled a single sigar and offered us. Proudly confirming us the best tobacos in the world are grown here in this location.
