A June 1981 view shows this vehicle on its way to Bangour Hospital with service 199. Service 199 took over from the 144 service, (originally Edinburgh to Mid Calder via Kirknewton, then from 1978 East Calder to Bangour), and was rerouted Kirknewton to the hospital upon the opening of Livingston Bus Station in March 1979.

Note the lack of depot code and absence of fleet names.

The sign on the verge to the front of the bus was a route direction sign. With the alteration of services around the new town of Livingston, these were seen on the approaches to many of the road junctions. The sign on the lamppost at the junction behind the vehicle denotes the new access to MOD 324 engineer park. Now long gone, this had seven large sheds housing many different types of construction machinery for the Royal Engineers. It also had railway sidings and loading ramps situated between the two rows of sheds.

A scene from Shettleston in May 1980 at the same point as my last picture from 2021, at the east Eastbank/Eastmuir end of Shettleston Road.

The Greater Glasgow Atlantean LA1116 is on the 1 service to its Shettleston terminus and the Eastern Scottish Fleetline DD57 is on the 230 service from Parkhead to Easterhouse soon to turn left onto Gartocher Road. Both buses display the PTE's Trans-Clyde logo a 1970s attempt to provide an integrated and interlinking transport system in the Glasgow area but even then the PTE and SBG did not use the same bus stops in the city.

Eastern Scottish Leyland Fleetline OSG 59V moved with the Baillieston depot operations onto Midland at its nearby Stepps Depot in March 1985 before it became part of the new Kelvin Scottish fleet in June 1985.

OSG 59V became F178 in the new Kelvin fleet and is seen here in the first Kelvin livery but with the yellow front addition on a grimy day in March 1986, still on its old haunts on the 301 service in Easterhouse heading towards Parkhead and Bridgeton.

The main reason I wanted to get to the Errol auction last August was to see this Sunny, not so much for the car itself but for the fact it was bought from "Livingston Motor Co Ltd" - from memory this was a rebranding of what had been AFG Livingston, and later became Renault Livingston, and is still there today as Evans Halshaw Motorhouse. I grew up in the area and still remember what it was like before the showroom was built, and indeed the original "Craigshill Garage" still stands as a reminder of how Livingston looked back in the early days. I can still remember levering badges off a late 70s Citroen CX GTi that was parked at the back of that garage.

Sea Shepherd To Speak Bedore Danish Parliamentary Committee Tomorrow.

StandUp Against for the Pilot Whales

On Wednesday November 18, Sea Shepherd representatives will stand up in Danish parliament to present their opinion on the grindadráp.

On the eve of the presentation, Sea Shepherd crewmember and Danish citizen, Lukas Erichsen, calls on the citizen’s of Denmark to StandUp and demand that the government of Denmark withdraw its support of slaughter of pilot whales in the Faroe Islands. Lukas has participated in two Sea Shepherd pilot whale defense campaigns in the Faroe Islands, including this year’s Operation Sleppid Grindini.

“The Danish government should not be using Danish resources, and Danish tax money, and Danish police, and Danish Navy to stop passionate people – compassionate people – from saving lives.”
