This beautiful longwing species is not native to Thailand and originates from the Americas. However, it is believed to have originated from a butterfly farm in Phuket and there is now a healthy wild population found in a number of places in southern Thailand and peninsular Malaysia.

Culzean Castle was constructed as an L-plan castle by order of the 10th Earl of Cassilis. He instructed the architect Robert Adam to rebuild a previous, but more basic, structure into a fine country house to be the seat of his earldom. The castle was built in stages between 1777 and 1792. It incorporates a large drum tower with a circular saloon inside (which overlooks the sea), a grand oval staircase and a suite of well-appointed apartments.
In 1945, the Kennedy family gave the castle and its grounds to the National Trust for Scotland (thus avoiding inheritance tax). In doing so, they stipulated that the apartment at the top of the castle be given to General of the Army Dwight D. Eisenhower in recognition of his role as Supreme Commander of the Allied Forces in Europe during the Second World War. The General first visited Culzean Castle in 1946 and stayed there four times, including once while President of the United States.

Although spring mating season is a long way off, the Toms are well into their fall/winter rituals to establish pecking order. The other young Toms dance around the skirmish like teenagers egging it on - "fight, fight, fight".
Dunlins and at least one Black-bellied Plover (the larger bird in the background, right).
(I had misidentified these as Western Sandpipers, but the particularly long drooping bill marks these as Dunlins.)

Auch die spät austreibenden Laubbäume entfalten jetzt ihr Laub und Raps und Wintergetreide wachsen schnell in die Höhe. Die steigenden Temperaturen und die längere Sonneneinstrahlung sorgen für eine allgemein stürmische Pflanzenentwicklung. Der phänologische Beobachter muss jetzt sehr aufmerksam sein, damit er die vielen phänologischen Phasen mitbekommt.
Full spring arrives with the apple blossom. Now is the time for blooms. Not only the fruit trees are in bloom, but also many wild plants and ornamental shrubs, e.g. lilacs. The deciduous trees that sprout late are now unfolding their leaves and rapeseed and winter cereals are growing quickly. The rising temperatures and longer periods of sunshine ensure a generally stormy plant development. The phenological observer must now be very attentive in order to notice the many phenological phases.

Built in the fifteenth century, Renaissance style, with rectangular plant, it is structured in two bodies: ground floor made of granite with half-point arches with capitals of classic tradition and upper floor combining stone and wood. On one side is preserved the tomb of Countess Fronilde Fernández, lady in charge of the annexation of this monastery to the order of the Cistercian, in the year 1175.

The ponds at Las Gallinas are created as part of the Las Gallinas Valley Sanitary District’s Wastewater Treatment Reclamation Project. A transfer pipe sticks out above the waterline in one of the ponds and is a favorite sunning site for many of the birds.
When I first approached it,there was a mix of at least 20 cormorants, gulls and pelicans sunning themselves peacefully until one pelican decided he wanted the pipe to himself. He began to systematically bully his neighbors, either physically pushing them off or intimidating them enough so that they would fly off.
When he finally finished kicking everyone out, he simply flew off himself.
