I am not really a fan of beaches of any kind (well, sometimes :-)) but this one is very special. I'd never seen a more beautiful beach before, really not! This is the so called Turtle Beach in the beautiful Sultanate of Oman. The beach is not easy to access, you have to drive a quite long distance and then walk, but it was worth it. We didn't see any turtles, though. They come in the night and you must book a special tour because this beach is then closed for the visitors

Jebel Shams is part of Oman’s Hajar Mountain range. I started this day with the understanding I had hired a driver and 4x4. When it was time to embark, I discovered I had only rented the truck ( no driver) and I was to drive myself, a daunting realisation to say the least.

Nevertheless, I decided to give it a go. After a two-hour drive through very steep and muddy hills (4WD engaged), I arrived to the lookout. It was completely clouded over. Not the “Mountain of Sun” I hoped for. It was already 3:00 PM and I told myself I must leave by 4:30 to avoid driving back in the dark. Just as I was about to call it quits, the clouds began to dissipate and revealed this stunning, natural wonder. It was so incredibly awesome, it brought a tear or two to my eye.

Last week I returned from a beautiful roadtrip through Oman together with my three sisters. To see some photos of that journey, please have a look here <3

Taken during a boat trip in the fjords of Musandam in Oman. Too bad the many dolphins I saw that day were not in those shallow waters here. My wife and I then snorkeled in this clear water and it was just awesome, so many colorful fishes and other creatures (sea cucumbers, urchins, oysters...)
