The sun sets on the Mean Ruz lighthouse in Ploumac'h - Côtes d'Armor -Brittany - France - Europe
Le phare de Ploumanac’h, officiellement phare de Mean Ruz, est un bâtiment construit en granite rose, qui indique l’entrée de la passe menant au port de Ploumanac’h, sur la commune de Perros-Guirec du département des Côtes-d’Armor, en Bretagne.
Le premier phare de Ploumanac’h date de 1860. Détruit en 1944, il a été remplacé par le phare actuel en 1947.
De nuit, il est repérable grâce à son feu rouge à occultations avec un secteur blanc. Cette dernière couleur n’étant visible qu’entre l’île Tomé et l’île Rouzic.
Sa portée par nuit claire est de 11 milles marins, soit environ 20 kilomètres. Sa hauteur est de 15 m.
Du phare, on a une vue directe sur le Château de Costaérès, l’Île Renote et sur l’archipel des Sept-Îles.
Le phare tire son nom Mean Ruz de l’expression bretonne Men Ruz, signifiant pierre rouge.

The Ploumanac'h lighthouse, officially the Mean Ruz lighthouse, is a building built in pink granite, which indicates the entrance to the pass leading to the port of Ploumanac'h, in the town of Perros-Guirec in the Côtes-d department 'Armor, in Brittany.
The first lighthouse at Ploumanac’h dates from 1860. Destroyed in 1944, it was replaced by the current lighthouse in 1947.
At night, it can be spotted thanks to its red light with blackouts with a white sector. The latter color is only visible between Île Tomé and Île Rouzic.
Its range on a clear night is 11 nautical miles, or about 20 kilometers. Its height is 15 m.
From the lighthouse, you have a direct view of the Château de Costaérès, Renote Island and the Sept-Îles archipelago.
The lighthouse takes its name Mean Ruz from the Breton expression Men Ruz, meaning red stone.

I knew in advance the sun would be setting behind the Maiden's Tower. When I arrived on site, I used the PhotoPills app AR mode to show the path of the sun, and I set my tripod one hour before. The app was spot on; I didn't have to move one inch/cm.

So I got the Cult shoes from Kustom9 and wanted to do something actiony with them.
I went to RK Poses to get the skateboard and the pose set is really easy to use with the prop.
A composite shot of the occultation of Mars by the Moon in the early hours of 8th December 2022. This image transposes shots of Moon and Mars taken with a Celestron Edge HD11 scope a few hours before the occultation. The images are placed on top of the actual shot to provide a more detailed luminance layer (I couldn't use the main scope for the occultation as a tree blocked the view from my observatory!)

Rain yesterday, clearing clouds this morning with clouds in the exact spot where the Moon was located. This image was captured through clearing clouds using a 120 mm Takahashi refractor, 2X Televue Powermate and a Nikon Z6II modified for 830 nm cutoff infrared. It was visible, not the perfect photo, but captured the event. Infrared improves the contrast in the breaking dawn making this event easier to resolve from the background sky.
Captured with a Questar telescope and it is a fusion of 5 exposures imaged with a Nikon Z7II camera. Mag 3.3 star. This image was about 2 min before occultation.

A series of shots taken over 13 minutes showing the occultation of Mars by the Moon, the earlier shots taken one minute apart, a shorter period between the final shots.
Images captured from London just before 5am on the 8th December 2022. Canon EOS 6D, 200mm telephoto lens with 2X Teleconverter (effective fl 400mm)
I witnessed the occultation of Mars behind the Moon. This is a composite of six exposures, 5 minutes apart starting at 6:37pm local time in Cupertino, California. In the San Francisco Bay Area we had the privilege that the red planet was traveling dead center behind the Moon. In reality it's the other way around, the Moon travels in front of the stars in the background. I took these shots with a 600mm lens and a 2x tele extender on a crop sensor camera, resulting in a 35 mm equivalent of 1800mm, which is a very small field of view, or in other words a large magnification.
Mars is twice as big as the moon (3400 km vs. 1700 km radius), but appears much smaller because it is so much further away.
I processed a realistic and a balanced HDR photo from 6 RAW exposures, manually aligned and stacked them, and carefully adjusted the color balance and curves. I welcome and appreciate constructive comments.
