My first acquaintance with Steven King. I love this book "The Shining" and also the movie with Jack Nicholson, a great actor!

If you never have read it or saw the movie and you like horror stories, it is a must to read and see ;-))

I like his style of writing, it is always plausible how the story line grows, but at some point there is that creepy feeling that you know it can't be.

For the Macro Mondays Theme: My Favourite Novel (Fiction).

Happy Macro Monday everyone!!!!

The first adaptation of the novel “Dr. No” by Ian Fleming was filmed in 1962 on the island of New Providence, in the Bahamas. The film starred Sean Connery as the famous James Bond character. The scene where Bond arrives at the airport on the island was filmed in Nassau, the capital of the Bahamas. Moonfleet Beach was the filming location for Bond's bathing scene with Honey Ryder. The final scene was filmed at the Blue Lagoon on Grand Bahama Island. New Providence and Grand Bahama are the islands where the movie Dr No was filmed.

The name Piz Gloria originated in Ian Fleming's James Bond novel On Her Majesty's Secret Service (1963), wherein the hideout of the villain, Ernst Stavro Blofeld, is a mountain-top building containing an allergies investigation clinic.

Jane Austen's classic novel about the prejudice that occurred between the 19th century classes and the pride which would keep lovers apart.

The best screening of the novel is the version made by the BBC in 1995, the generic of the film inspired me to make this picture.

I love to shoot in fog.

The silhouettes, shadows and hints of light.. It's like living a mystery novel and I'm the detective.

That's about as exciting as it gets for me folks.. And I'm sticking with it.

some moments tell a whole novel ... and only rarely ... very rarely indeed ... you can manage to capture such a moment ... because this capturing all too often destroys these moments ...

"Chapter 1

You see, I had this space suit. How it happened was this way:

“Dad,” I said, “I want to go to the Moon.”

“Certainly,” he answered and looked back at his book. It was Jerome K. Jerome’s Three Men in a Boat, which he must know by heart. I said, “Dad, please! I’m serious.”

This time he closed the book on a finger and said gently, “I said it was all right. Go ahead.” “Yes … but how?”

“Eh?” He looked mildly surprised. “Why, that’s your problem, Clifford.”

Dad was like that. The time I told him I wanted to buy a bicycle he said, “Go right ahead,” without even glancing up-so I had gone to the money basket in the dining room, intending to take enough for a bicycle. But there had been only eleven dollars and forty-three cents in it, so about a thousand miles of mowed lawns later I bought a bicycle. I hadn’t said anymore to Dad because if money wasn’t in the basket, it wasn’t anywhere; "

Fun with Photoshop. I took the image of E and I from Stable Diffusion and spent a good part of the day using photoshop to make another "Found Novel" book cover.

Numbers of these "novel" Katiannids (I never know what to call them!) appearing in our Staffordshire garden at the moment. Quite a proportion are "pale" individuals with reduced numbers of pigment spots. This one has a concentration of spots towards the rear of the large abdomen. Haven't seen this before.

Could the levels of pigmentation be related to when they last moulted?

Her sweet innocence turns to desire and hope when she notices from her keepers tower a dark mysterious man in the woods.

He looks up to her and offers a warm smile each night before passing then continues on his way down the dirt road without sound.

Will she go unnoticed as she slips into the darkness and mist searching for the stranger?

In the novel 'The War of the Worlds', author H.G. Wells has the Martians land on an isolated Surrey Heath, so it seems entirely in keeping that these 'aliens' are in a similar location at their only UK site. I went to have a look a fortnight ago but recent rain had washed them out. Since then some more 'eggs' had hatched and I was lucky to see them in various stages of development, including this one with intact tentacles emerging from the leaf litter. I fear that tomorrow's forecast heavy rain may once again defeat the aliens : )

I've been an avid reader before I even started school. I was taught to read at home by my mother and taught in the Welsh Language ( later taught to read in English at the age of 7 at school)

I found it difficult to choose a favourite novel, being a bit of a bookworm, so I based my choice of book on one my mother gave me to read at the age of 14 - The Grapes of Wrath by John Steinbeck. As a young adult it introduced me to American Literature, opened my eyes to American History, and in later years the poetry. The humourist in me though couldn't resist a shot like this :-)

I'm sure I'm not the only one who would have thought of choosing this, The Catcher in the Rye is one of those iconic, touching novels, that I have revisited over the years having first read it in my teens. The title of the novel is down from the central character's, Caulfield's, misinterpretation of line from a Robbie Burns poem, and he imagines himself as the 'Catcher'. I have depicted him here as the Jack of Hearts.

Novel in as much as it is packed full of novelties including model trains moving above your head - Barter Books, Alnwick, Northumberland, UK

Edited book cover, A Man and His Pride by Luke Rutledge.

A debut novel for Rutledge.

"The novel that talks (also) about my life"

I don't read a lot of fiction so for this weeks Macro Mondays theme "My Favourite Novel (Fiction)" I chose to google a fictional novel to represent and came upon "A Clash of Kings".

This was going to be a fairly easy one to represent as I could either have used a chess board or a pack of playing cards.

I chose the chess board and after first focussing on my ruler to frame for the 3 inch rule I then set up the board and then positioned my tripod so that the kings were in focus.

I used some of my sons Play-Doh to make the kings lean toward each other and then angled the camera for a slightly more dynamic view.

I shot the same composition at a series of different aperture settings and chose f/8 as it had the effect I Ilked the most.

I have included a link to a Wikipedia page about the book below.

Reached #234 on EXPLORE - 9 July 2022

Best known for his novels Tess of the d’Urbervilles, Far from the Madding Crowdand Jude the Obscure, Thomas Hardy (1840-1928) studied modern languages as an evening class student at King’s College London from 1865 to 1866.

Thomas grew up in Dorset. His family lacked the money to send him to university, so he became an apprentice to a local architect at the age of 16. In 1862 he came to London to work and set about educating himself. During this time he immersed himself in the intellectual culture of the capital and attended evening classes at King’s. Poor health led to him returning home in 1867, where he continued working as an architect whilst working on his early novels.

As well as a novelist, Thomas was also a prolific poet, playwright and short story-writer. Following the furore around the publication of Jude the Obscure in 1895, which was branded ‘Jude the Obscene’ by the Pall Mall Gazette, he gave up novel writing to concentrate on his poetry. His first collection was published in 1898 and included poems from the past thirty years. Some of his best-known poems were from a sequence written between 1912 and 1913, after the death of his first wife.

Book cover, The Brontë Sisters Three Novels.

BOTTONI IN MADREPERLA YVES-SAINT-LAURENT SU BASE ROSSO VALENTINO

“The lion the witch and the wardrobe” by CS Lewis. It’s not image that I’m that happy with, but it’s the best effort that I could come up with for the theme. The lion’s tail is a toy and rather than choose a dark wardrobe ( as I think of it in the novel) I chose one with a mirrored front to at least try to be a little inventive. The shoe on the right is the closest I could think of for the witch.

The novel is one that I have read in both Welsh and English and of course have watched the film several times.

HMM thanks for stopping
