Male goldfinches fly upwards facing one another; I cannot count the times I've tried to capture their vertical flights. This I found (among several thousand photos shot this past week) while focusing on the female redwing, above.

Feeling relief over the lack of violence in Tulsa Saturday night. Black lives matter—of course!

This is a sad day for America. . #NOTMYPRESIDENT #ResistTrump

My heart goes out to the victims of Hurricane Harvey and to all the victims of the horrendous flooding all over the world. We have been experiencing a summer of endless sun (unusual for us) & record high temperatures here in the Pacific Northwest. On my daily walk I often have to stop and marvel at the beauty of the mountains, especially when they are illuminated by the late afternoon sun. I am so happy that my state of Washington and many other states & cities in the U.S. are choosing to follow the Paris Climate Accord in spite of our colossally ignorant NotMyPresident Trump.

He is a stain on history, an entity only the devil would admire. He is under qualified to pick up garbage and has only gotten his way through grifting and deceit. In every other reality, he is in a prison cell. He was never my president and I will never call him that. He has committed rape and treason and is now responsible for more deaths than the sum total of victims of every serial killer in American history combined. This fascist must go!

i am soooo far behind...almost had a bicycle accident today when both brakes went out. Anyway, this is your reminder that this reality is not normal and it's not ok. We all know if Trump wasn't a white man, he'd be wearing stripes right about now.

I'll leave you with a quote today from my favorite President:

“To announce that there must be no criticism of the President, or that we are to stand by the President, right or wrong, is not only unpatriotic and servile, but is morally treasonable to the American public.”

― Theodore Roosevelt

So disconcerting that we've chosen fear, exclusion, hate, and ignorance as our pathway forward.

I frankly have no patience or understanding with anyone who voted for Trump. You let fear rule your reason. For shame...

We are not the silent minority. We are the vocal majority and we will not stand for racism, sexism, or any level of intolerance towards immigrants, women, those with disabilities, people with different sexual orientations, and those of different cultures. Let's keep our cities safe places to live.

Celebrating the fairly peaceful Saturday in Tulsa with this tiny weed or wildflower. I wandered early in rare and windless sunlight.

About 3cm or less than 1.20 inches. The Nikkor 60mm micro lens can almost focus as closely as my nearsighted eye.

Today marks a great day in American History with the inauguration of Joe Biden. He inherits multiple ongoing crises exacerbated by Donald Trump, from the pandemic to severe racial and political divisions. May today mark the end of this very difficult time for America.

Today is also the last full day to pre-order my photobook #NotMyPresident: Five Years of Resisting Trump on Kickstarter (accessible via geofflivingston.com). The book documents nonviolent First Amendment actions taken against Trump’s presidency. Thousands of people from all walks of life stood up against authoritarianism and cruelty for five years.

These nonviolent protestors are the heroes who stood up and demanded change throughout the years. My book highlights them and their actions.

Please consider getting your copy of #NotMyPresident: Five Years of Resisting Trump now before it is too late.

Be safe today, my friends.

Have a wonderful weekend my friends!

I suggest we

Learn to love ourselves,

Before its made illegal

When will we learn, When will we change?

Just in time to see it all come down

Those left standing will make millions

Writing books on ways it should have been

Floating in this cosmic Jacuzzi

Here we are like frogs oblivious

To the water starting to boil,

No one flinches and we all float face down...

She called out a warning.

Don't ever let life pass you by.

Today is a new day for France and the World. Why? After Brexit and Trump, medias announced that France would follow the same movement. Finally no, there are "only" 10 MILLIONS ASSHOLES in France! So, this morning yes, I'm a little reassured but is voting failing always a democratic act? I do not think so!

This shot is for all my Flickr's friends, for all peoples too.

Answering the question, is there anywhere on social media where politics has not entered?

Happy Slider Sunday - HSS

This was taken at a protest in Chicago and I loved how expressive these kids were and how happy they were to be there with their families. The quot is actually taken from a really amazing autobiographical wonder I just finished-Yiyun Li's Dear Friend, From My Life I Write to You in Your Life. It's not really about protesting, though this quote stood out. It's really more about depression and suicide and how writing, memories, making sense of past, melodrama, conversations and measuring time takes place in a life. It's a really philosophical and beautiful exploration into what makes us human beings. Highly recommended.

But, this quote alone actually got me thinking quite a bit about the nature of the protest, because there are so many emotions that occur at once when you are present there with all of these people in a community. We are all so very sad and angry but if we don't laugh, we won't stop crying. So many things are still so wrong and I wonder when this nightmare truly will end. It's especially unfair to the children. And yet, it is always reassuring to live amongst a community of people all advocating for the right things, it reaffirms your faith in humanity and allows you the chance to share laughter with your grieving. You can laugh so hard you almost cry or sob so loud it turns into laughter. It's hard to explain that, really, but there is so much simultaneous joy and heartache in the world. There always has been....but now we know all of the details it seems like seconds after it happens. And that pain is real...that sorrow is real. But we also can't allow ourselves to go insane or we're useless to our family, our community, ourselves and therein lies the balance where tears can become giggles and we are constant emotional architects, building bridges just to get through another long day of reality.

OR, what a difference a day makes. A country divided - I captured the person on the left at the inauguration this past Friday. The person on right was captured at the epic March on Washington the following day.

He cleans up nice when he gets his hair cut, doesn’t he? The eyes are looking a bit rheumy though. That's from late night tweeting.

Welcome to the Resistance!!

Tax cuts for billionaires. No healthcare for the elderly or poor. Thanks, GOP.

I dedicate this photo of Hellebores in February to the young Indian immigrant engineer, Srinivas Khuchibotla, who was recently murdered in a Kansas bar by some Horrible Maniac undoubtedly inspired by the hateful rhetoric of Donald Trump (#NotMyPresident). It was an appalling act and my heart breaks and I find myself in tears, especially since long ago I married a young Indian engineer from Mumbai who is now an American citizen and who has contributed much to our society. Our marriage didn't last, but our friendship has. What is happening in our country??? We can only #Resist and try to make this senseless act of violence and the death of this young man with so much to give our country not be in vain. I have to believe that the light will eventually conquer the darkness or else I can't even imagine ...
