Smile on Saturday#Nose
Bagheera (my dog) is jealous, she thinks her nose is prettier. And another thinker, my husband thinks this would be ideal if the name of this group was ‘Make me Scared’.
HSoS!
My Flickr friend Eiona calls them Gonks, so I'll stick with that. He's lit up from inside, a soft light here because the batteries ran low. I limited the image to the nose and beard because of the MM rules and focused on the beard because everything else is so soft and actually feels quite lovely to the touch.
The bull (Cervus canadensis) seemed intrigued by the curious calf as they pressed noses for a moment.
This is a leaping Long-beaked Common Dolphin at the split second its nose hit the water, off the coast of Baja. Although they are called "Common" this is much the rarer of the two Common Dolphins (Long-beaked and Short-beaked) and the one that has never been recorded in Europe. Long-beaked is found in warmer coastal waters in the Pacific, Atlantic and Indian Oceans. But Long-beaked Common Dolphin as a species has also taken a nosedive as genetic research has shown that these populations don't have a common ancestor but have independently evolved from different populations of Short-beaked Common Dolphins. So most authorities now lump all Common Dolphins as one species but with four subspecies. So some books call this Long-beaked Common Dolphin (Delphinus capensis), others call it the Eastern North Pacific long-beaked Common Dolphin (Delphinus delphis subspecies bairdii).
Last Saturday, we packed our rucksacks for another wonderful sunny day on Dartmoor - this time a lovely round we did last year for the first time including Hound Tor, Hayne Down and the famous granite stack that is known as Bowerman's Nose. From this perspective it really looks like a face with a large chin and a distintive nose. There's all sorts of legends and stories associated with this spectacular rock formation.
Your nose can grow for three reasons: 1. old age, 2. distorted perspective when (as here) photographed with a wide-angle lens, and 3. when you, as frequently happens to a particular prime minister, are "ambushed by a cake".
Now they are quite comfortable in each other's company.
Thank you all for visits, favs and comments, it's greatly appreciated!
And a very happy furry Friday to you! (Their heads are about the same size, the pup is just closer to the camera!)
For a treat, please check out Lauren's beautiful artwork. I'm honored that she picked Brady for a subject!
I visited this location twice during my visit to Dartmoor in SW England.
On my previous visit I photographed Bowerman's Nose, on the nose, so to speak, where the nose was touching the edge of the hill: www.flickr.com/photos/lloydich/50502722781/in/dateposted/
Do you find the other image unsettling and prefer this composition? If you get a chance, let me know which composition you prefer?
As close as you get to my cat's nose.

(っ◔◡◔)っ ♥ The Long-nosed Dragon.. The Aussie version of Anolis. ♥
Wide angle portrait of a show-stopping adult male Long-nosed Dragon (Gowidon longirostris) in his best breeding suit. We encountered this lizard on an arid desert sandplain in stinking hot weather just after the first summer storms hit. We were not far from the Barkly Homestead in the spectacular Barkly Tableland region of the Northern Territory.

A dark-coloured grizzly bear stands in the water by the river bank and puts its fantastic, world-leading sense of smell to work by sniffing the water surface to detect underwater salmon during the fall migration. Chilko River, British Columbia.

On Saturday, we had our first proper walk this year, revisiting one of our family favourites. The circular walk starts at Hound Tor and takes in iconic Bowerman's Nose, the incredible granite stack marvelled at by my boys. The sun came out the minute we were back at the car...LOL.
For those interested in the entire walk, I made a video:
A spot-nosed Monkey feeds in a tree in the Bomassa NNNP Headquarters. The greater spot-nosed monkey or putty-nosed monkey (Cercopithecus nictitans) is one of the smallest Old World monkeys. It is a guenon of the C. mitis group, native to West Africa and living to some extent in rain forests, but more often in the transition zone between rain forest and savannah.

This nose belongs to the older one of the Kunekune pigs at the park. It's a dirty nose but pigs use their snout to dig in the dirt and search for food.
I love the heart-shaped marking on the chin of this pig. :)
