And more...

A rainbow is a meteorological phenomenon that is caused by reflection, refraction and dispersion of light in water droplets resulting in a spectrum of light appearing in the sky.

It takes the form of a multicoloured circular arc.

Rainbows caused by sunlight always appear in the section of sky directly opposite the Sun.

A seabird that nests in colonies on coastal cliffs and offshore islands across the North Atlantic. During the breeding season, it digs burrows or uses natural rock crevices in grassy slopes or rocky cliffs, preferring areas with easy access to open sea for feeding. Outside the breeding period, puffins spend months entirely at sea, often far from land, riding ocean swells and foraging in productive waters.

The Atlantic puffin breeds in locations from the eastern coast of North America (notably Newfoundland and Labrador) across Greenland, Iceland, the Faroe Islands, the British Isles, and northern France, to Norway and the Barents Sea. After breeding, it migrates into the open North Atlantic, dispersing widely and remaining pelagic until the next breeding season. Migration routes are not strictly linear, with birds following prey availability and ocean currents, sometimes ranging thousands of kilometers from their nesting grounds.

I find this instructive for image composition–i.e. overlay (rule of thirds, golden ratio), leading lines, and color.

Early morning view of the Château de Chantilly under dense fog. The building is lit and reflected in the still water. The outlines of the architecture are softened by the mist, and visibility is low. The scene is quiet, with no visible movement. The light is artificial, contrasting with the natural fog of dawn. A smaller illuminated element appears on the left, also reflected in the water.

A nice contrasted sky in Amiens just before the storm kicked in. Also, nice rooftops.

Montreuil-sur-Mer is a rather pretty town in northern France, just a few kilometres from Le Touquet. Among its delights are a castle, ancient city walls, a market, restaurants galore, antique shops, cobbled streets… oh, and this, which rather took my fancy. Well, photographically at least.

And as for the 'sur-Mer'... it's nowhere near the sea at all, but who worries about these minor details? With or without la mer, Montreuil is still worth visiting!

I took this photo of Fort National perched on a tidal island near the walled town of St. Malo that I was visiting last year. I waited until the tide had come in, so that I could achieve the effect of a castle on an island in the shot. I did some post production work to enhance the sky and slightly diffuse the sea, as it was quite rough on the day of the shoot.

It is early September, we are touring on the Continent, this is Bray-Dunes in Northern France.

The stretching beaches are quasi deserted, the sun still warm , but the children are back at school, people back to work.

Older people, lonely people are there, a last burst of enjoyment before the chill sets in their bones.

The rain erased almost all the footsteps on the beach in front of the promenade.

The sea and wind free to create artistic patterns...

Have a wonderful day, filled with love and beauty, M, (*_*)

Two years ago when I was travelling through France, I came across the World War I Cemetery at Flesquieres in Northern France. It was very moving walking along the rows of white gravestones with their engraved names. Every now and then there was one without a name - an unknown soldier. These gravestones had the engraving ‘Known Unto God’

World War I ended at 11.00am on 11th November 1918, so today is the 90th Anniversary of the Armistice.

As we made our way back to the hotel from our lovely evening watching the sunset at Saint-Malo, Trev decided that we should walk down to Mont Saint-Michel to get a last shot of the monastery all lit up. (ps .... Trev had to give me a few tips on after dark photography as its so not my strong point!) Within seconds of me taking this shot the lights started going out on the mount ............. then i realised that it was after midnight and it was way passed my bedtime AND we had to ride back to Calais in a few hrs ..... zzzzzzzzzzzz

Thank you to all of you that have looked, commented and faved my shots of our bike trip to Northern France :-)) thanks very much x

25 of these guns were built for the German Army - this is one of two survivors. It weighs 218 tons and has an overall length of 35 metres - the barrel alone weighs 94 tons! It could fire a 28cm diameter shell up to 86km
