Nilo-Stolbenskaya desert - male monastery on the island of Stolbna, the history of which began in 1528, when the hermit Neil settled there.

10 km north of the town of Ostashkov, on Lake Seliger. On the road from Ostashkov to the monastery about 25 km..Cat? In this monastery a special love for these animals. In addition to careful care and feeding, once a year in the church a service for the CATS is conducted.

Nilo-Stolobenskaya pustyn (Nilo-Stolobensky Desert) s a monastery on Stolobny Island on Lake Seliger. This monastery arose on the site of the feat of the Monk Nile, the Stolobensky miracle worker, whose memory the Russian Orthodox Church performs on December 20.

Over the five centuries of its existence, the monastery, initially extremely poor, survived the heyday and special favor of the tsar’s family, plundered during the years of Soviet rule, turned into a labor commune, then a place for juvenile offenders and a camp for Polish prisoners of war, a hospital, a retirement home, an architectural monument and a camp site .

Monastic life in the Nile Desert revived after 1990, when the desert was returned to the Church. As before, Neil Stolobensky blesses the island, when on the memorial days the inhabitants of the monastery pass the procession with his relics, and recently the cell icon of the saint, which was considered lost, has returned to its place.

My best work yet. Thank you for modeling

The statue is located in the little square named Piazzetta Nilo. During the Roman Empire in that area of Naples lived many Egyptians. They decided to erect a statue of the Nile god. The statue was lost with the collapse of the Roman Empire. It was recovered many centuries later headless. In 1647 it was placed in the present location with a new head. In the 1950s some parts of the statue were stolen including the little Sphinx. In 2013 a special branch of the Carabinieri found the little Spinx in Austria and after a restoration it has been set again in its original place.

The Nile is a permanent surprise.

Life around the estuary is calm and pleasant, as is its flow. People live facing the river and any distinction seems convenient to make themselves stand out.

Roman statue dating from the 2nd to 3rd century AD.

Ho aperto un album fotografico del 2000 e vi ho ritrovato le foto della nostra crociera sul Nilo. Ho fatto dei tentativi, scannerizzando le immagini e sistemandole in photoshop e picasa.

A shot on paper of our cruise on Nile in 2000, I've made a treatment to refresh the images :-)))
