The Winged Victory of Samothrace, also called the Nike of Samothrace, is a marble Hellenistic sculpture of Nike (the Greek goddess of victory), that was created about the 2nd century BC. Since 1884, it has been prominently displayed at the Louvre and is one of the most celebrated sculptures in the world. H.W. Janson described it as "the greatest masterpiece of Hellenistic sculpture",and it is one of a small number of major Hellenistic statues surviving in the original, rather than Roman copies. The Winged Victory of Samothrace, discovered in 1863, is conventionally thought to have been made to celebrate a naval victory in 190 BC. However, there are objections to this dating, and alternative victories ranging from the Battle of Salamis in 306 BC to the Battle of Actium in 31 BC have been proposed as the event being celebrated. Datings based on stylistic evaluation have been equally variable, ranging across the same three centuries, but perhaps tending to an earlier date.

The real victors are never arrogant or bold and old Greeks knew this as good as we do, they have never presented goddess of victory Nike as a big figure, though she was a titan by her father side in fact, she was always presented as a small figure often carried in the hands of Zeus or Athena.
This one here is rather small sculpture of Nike made by Dutch sculptor Reina Ramakers from the Naxos marble. This artist uses the most of the time stone from the country where her inspiration comes from so for the example her work based on Greek mythology is made from the Greek stone.
Carsington Reservoir's high and low water marks bear more than a passing resemblance to the 'Swoosh' logo.
NY 13.1 "training" has officially started. Strength training twice a week. I've always slacked when it came to this, but now I have to as Nike says, "just do it".

Night photo of the interior of the charred remains of a heavily tagged city bus and missile assembly building are what remain after wildfires completely burned the area in the mountains at 3000 ft. above Los Angeles, setting the fog aglow with its city lights. From 1958 to 1974 there was an Army base with Nike Hercules missiles armed with nuclear warheads. 16 missile bases around Los Angeles known as the "Ring of Steel" were created during the Cold War to defend against attack. These were capable of launching missiles with an intercept range of 100,000 feet. None were ever launched for defense. On a surprisingly foggy evening, I photographed this site, towering over the north part of Los Angeles, illuminating the subjects with my trusty handheld ProtoMachines LED2 light painting device during a creative evening of night photography in the mountains. This may appear in my second book of night photography that I am presently writing.
