This brave little mallard duck was forging ahead out on the frozen Fox River in Batavia, Illinois on this brisk Valentine's Day morning. Temperatures ranged from -4F to +3F, or -20C to -16C using the other arbitrary scale.

A creative inspirational fantasy using stock images and images of mine. Elements modified and recreated.
The Building is the "House with Chimaeras" in Kyiv, Ukraine: An Art Nouveau building covered in animal gargoyles and grotesques.
The Polish architect Władysław Horodecki originally constructed the House with Chimaeras for use as his own upmarket apartment building during the period of 1901–1902.
Horodecki's unique architectural style earned him praise as the Antoni Gaudí of Kyiv.

This is one in a burst of pictures capturing a wave breaking violently onto sea stacks (offshore rocks) near Salt Point Trail. The waves crash and rise about 40 ft into the air before returning to the roiling sea. Yet the sea stacks weather this year after year for centuries if not millenia without eroding away.
