During check-in and weigh-in at the Lancaster County Super Fair (pictured), hogs are painted with numbers and paperwork is checked. Market hogs are weighed and carcass quality is calculated based on loin-eye measurement plus fat thickness (both are measured by ultrasound).

4-H Clover College is a four-day series of hands-on workshops for youth presented by Nebraska Extension in Lancaster County.

The 4-H food booth at the Lancaster County Super Fair is Lancaster County 4-H Council’s primary fundraiser each year. Many 4-H clubs and independent members helped staff a shift. More than 195 4-H youth and adults volunteered at the food booth this year.

All proceeds fund several important 4-H programs and activities such as: Achievement Celebration, 4-H Information Night (formerly Kick Off); college and camp scholarships; support for state and national contest registrations; and

much more.

In the 4-H Table Setting Contest at the 2015 Lancaster County Super Fair, youth selected a theme and displayed one place setting, including table covering, dishes, glassware, silverware, centerpiece and menu. Youth chose one of the following categories: formal, casual, picnic or birthday.

During the contest, set up their table and have five minutes to present their table setting to a judge. After all judging is complete, the public is welcome to view the tables.

4-H Clover College is a four-day series of hands-on workshops for youth presented by Nebraska Extension in Lancaster County. Celebrating its 20th anniversary, Clover College has grown from 8 workshops in 1996 to 58 workshops in 2016!

Now in its fifth year at the Lancaster County Super Fair, the 4-H & FFA Meat Goat Show gives youth the opportunity to learn how to take care of, groom and show meat goats as an animal science project. Meat goats are also known as boer goats.

Showmanship classes (pictured) emphasize the youth's handling and knowledge of their meat goats.

At the Plant Science Contests held on June 14, 2017, several 4-H members from Lancaster and other Nebraska counties tested their plant identification knowledge in the following contests:

• Tree identification

• Grass-weed identification

• Horticulture contest
