North of the well-known Imperial Sand Dunes Recreation Area in the far southeast of California are the North Algodones Dunes.
They are under nature conservation and may not be used like the southern dune area with OHV's.
Unfortunately, the Imperial Sand Dunes are much more spectacular, but because of the many lanes, less photographically interesting.
Nördlich der bekannteren Imperial Sand Dunes Recreation Area im äußersten Südosten Kaliforniens befinden sich die North Algodones Dunes.
Sie stehen unter Naturschutz und dürfen nicht wie der südliche Dünenbereich mit OHV's befahren werden.
Leider sind die Imperial Sand Dunes viel spektakulärer, aber wegen der vielen Fahrspuren fotografisch weniger interessant.

Two male Violet-green Swallows doing some midair flexing for the ladies. Did you know Swallows can consume 60 insects per hour or a whopping 850 per day (assuming 14 hours of daylight in the summer months)? That's 25,000 fewer insects per month chasing you around the forest, per Swallow! ... Now multiply by the number of Swallows... thats a pretty effective natural pesticide, isn't it?

I shamelessly bribed the mine employees who were tasked with cutting down this ecosystem bordering my yard. It is home to frogs,insects,spiders,dragonflies and many birds.I live in a far-flung corner of the mine,so i hope to keep this sanctuary safe.

I was sitting two days for many hours among the Puffins, they were not afraid of me, in fact they felt more protected, because the Ravens, the Great Skuas, the Great black-backed gulls, the Peregrine Falcons and the Eurasian sea eagles did not dare to come too close when they saw me, so the Puffins had a jolly relaxing time and I had too. Only problem was that sometimes they was so close that I could not take photos, the 250mm Lens have a close focus of 1.7 meter, so less than 1.5 meter from the front end of the Lens to the Birds.
I like the orange "wet corn flakes" around the mouth of Puffins :)

Making this photo was possible under an activity of the project: „Preservation of the biodiversity in the following areas: Natura 2000 „Dolna Odra” (PLB320003 and PLH320037) and „Ujście Warty” (PLC080001)” through creation of nesting sites for birds and protection of those nesting sites against invasive species”.
