Dandelions are one of those subjects that you can photograph a million times and they can look different every time don't you think?

Have a great new week everyone!

Hit "L' to view the Dandys and the lions ;)

The first signs of Spring over here at last, with some dandelions making an appearance. Thought I'd do some googling and, as always, nature amazes me. Did you know every part of a dandelion is edible? The flowers, leaves, roots have all been used in salads, teas & wines. Dandelion greens are packed with vitamins A, C, K, calcium, iron & potassium. Who knew! Well, apparently lots of people, they've been used for centuries in Chinese, Middle eastern & European herbal medicine.

They are great little travellers too - their seeds have tiny parachutes that lets them float for up to 8 kilometres.

I saw a couple of sayings - "Little suns by day, little moons by night" and "Sometimes the simplest things carry the most magic". Both seem so true!

Have a great week and thanks as always for any comments, they are always appreciated!

Some studies have found that hibiscus tea may lower systolic and diastolic blood pressure. However, to prevent an interaction, it should not be taken in combination with blood pressure medications.

Animal studies have found that hibiscus extract has antioxidant properties. Additional studies are needed to determine how this may translate to humans.

Some studies have shown that hibiscus tea may reduce blood cholesterol and triglyceride levels in those with diabetes and metabolic syndrome. However, other studies have produced conflicting results. More research is needed in the general population

I hope this will ease the pain in my shoulder. 🙏

P.S. Looks like whom on a good hair day?

Nasturtium was brought from Peru into Holland by Van Beverning in 1684

erst Im 17. Jahrhundert gelangte die Kapuzinerkresse durch Lord Beverning von Peru nach Europa.

Die frischen Blätter der Kapuzinerkresse wurde früher als Heilmittel speziell zur Wunddesinfektion verwendet.

Black Sage (Salvia mellifera) pushes upward with quiet authority each spring, its whorled blossoms spiraling like herbal incense into the chaparral air. A medicinal powerhouse to Indigenous Californians and a nectar fountain for native bees and hummingbirds, this drought-tolerant sage thrives in sun-drenched hillsides. Each fuzzy calyx cradles a bloom, often white with hints of lavender, releasing volatile oils that perfume the path when crushed underfoot. In spring, it’s not just blooming—it’s practicing medicine.

I'm happy to report that Elfie is feeling much better. She hasn't had any other seizure and has gained weight! I've been using homeopathy and natural supplements to boost her immune system, and it has again proved to work. Fingers crossed!

We happen to have a small kaffir lime tree in our yard and its fruit is used in home cooking. This very pungent lime is unique to Southeast Asia and has many uses, including traditional medicine.

Kaffir lime is widely available from the farmers' markets to grocery supermarkets, but it's always cheaper to grow your own. :-)

No this is not for printing nor the faint hearted. Hot, spicy and small, typically smaller one is hotter for hot pepper.

FIG TEA RECIPE: Put about a cupful of ripped up fig leaves into a teapot. Cover with boiling water and leave to steep for at least 20 minutes. Enjoy!

Should you wish, more boiling water can be added to the leaves in the teapot, and steeped for 30 minutes to be later consumed as iced tea.

For diabetes drink the tea first thing in the morning.

A white Cone Flower in a vase sitting on top of an open book. I used all natural lighting and then added a painterly effects and texture so the image would have the look of a painting.

Coneflowers are bright perennials, some of which are used in herbal remedies. These flowers are easy to care for, relatively drought-tolerant, and are good for cut flowers. Coneflowers are daisy-like with raised centers. The seeds found in the dried flower head also attract songbirds to your garden.

I am back after one year break. I was here but away in a way. 2014 was very stressful and I am glad is over. So here I am with new canon camera and hoping for better year. Hello everyone. Good to be back.

Leah’s backyard bug bite balm recipe.

This herbal infusion has worked wonders for us to quickly relieve itchy bug bites or stings and it’s all-natural! There’s a good chance the ingredients for this recipe are already in your backyard and kitchen, too.

Recipe:

1 cup dried and finely chopped broadleaf plantain leaves (magic anti-itch ingredient, astringent, anti inflammatory, promotes skin cell healing)

3 tbsp dried oregano ( numbing agent, anti microbial, anti bacterial, anti inflammatory)

2 tbsp cayenne powder (pain reliever, closes wounds)

1 tbsp turmeric powder ( anti inflammatory, antibacterial, anti fungal, antiviral, mild anesthetic)

1 tbsp dried rosemary ( anti bacterial, mild pain reliever/numbing agent)

1 tbsp dried basil (anti bacterial/anti inflammatory)

Coconut oil (Or olive oil or other carrier oil)

Optional: beeswax for making a salve.

Melt enough carrier oil in a pot to just cover the herbs. Keep on very low heat for at least 2-4 hours. Stir every so often. Once cool enough, strain oil through cheesecloth or coffee filter to remove herbs. Oil will take on the color, smell, and properties of the herbs. Repeat process with a new batch of dried plantain and the same oil to make it more potent, if need be. If adding beeswax, return oil to pot and melt in wax to achieve desired hardness. Keep infused oils refrigerated or in a cool dark place. Salves can be more portable. Salves and infused oils are usually good for about a year.
