Immediately after the typhoon, the amount of water was increasing. Therefore, it became a rare scenery without tourist boats. It is a precious landscape.

This spire monument is an example of what erosion does to a butte. They are probably the most photographed monuments in the valley.

Natural Bridges National Monument features three huge, stream-carved natural bridges as well as a concentration of Anasazi Indian ruins. The multi-colored bridges can be seen from overlooks along a nine mile loop road through the monument. The bridges have Hopi Indian names: Owachomo means "rock mounts," Sipapu (the second largest natural bridge in the world) means "the plan of emergence" and massive Kachina means "dancer"

Moated main keep of the late medieval castle of Loon op Zand, with a moated site to the north featuring outbuildings on either side of a forecourt, and to the east a moated site where the original outer bailey was situated.

History

On April 16, 1383, Pauwels van Haestrecht granted a house and plot of land ‘that he shall build at Loon’ as a fief to Margaretha, wife of the Count of Holland, Albrecht, Duke of Bavaria. Given the mention of a ‘borch’ in 1387, the castle must have been (largely) completed at that time. Under Dirck van Grevenbrouck and Filiberta van Immerseel, a significant alteration followed. It is possible that the residence was moved from the main keep to the outer bailey at that time. In 1776-1777, the castle acquired its current appearance by order of Ludwig, Prince of Salm-Salm.

I am happy I find this POV as it incorporates a good perspective of Monument Valley.

This is part of the series of photos we took as we were doing an all day long self driving tour of the amazing Monument Valley.

In the foreground we see part of "Tensei Tenmoku" is the title of this sculpture that is located at the end of the dike of the fishing port of Garachico, Tenerife - Canary Islands.

It means "Door without door" and was realized in the year 2002 by the Japanese artist Kan Yasuda. It is built in white rattle marble, is a composition of minimalist style, that integrates perfectly in the landscape.

In the background you can see the Roque de Garachico. In 1994 it adopted its present name of Natural Monument of Roque de Garachico. It is a volcanic geological formation of basaltic castings of 77 meters high and 5 hectares of surface, separated from land about 300 m. by marine erosion.

Its vegetation is scarce, with a majority presence of cardones and tabaibas. Its walls constitute a nesting point and refuge for several migratory birds and others that are threatened like the Petrel of Bulwer (Bulweria bulwerii), the small pardela (Puffinus assimilis baroli) or the paiño of Madeira (Oceanodroma castro). It is, moreover, a classic place of observation of heron (Ardea cinerea), a species that in the past has been established that nestled in the Canaries, at present has not been able to confirm.

The Roque de Garachico was declared a natural monument and area of ecological sensitivity by the Autonomous Law 12/94, later recast with the Law of Ordination of the Territory of the Canary Islands by Legislative Decree 1/2000.

It is in the Lower Austrian Waldviertel ('forest quarter') and the ascent over bridges, steps and footbridges takes about an hour - with us, of course, longer until we had taken enough photos !! The striking brown colour of the water comes from a high humic acid and iron content in the soil.

Beginning of spring ( when we went there) brings life to the desert and we could see a lot of golden grasses and flowers along our way.

The pond, which lies in the middle of a beautiful valley, surrounded by a large forest area, is a natural monument. Numerous animals frolic in and around the pond. The number of small frogs on the edge of the pond is incredibly high: it felt like there were hundreds on one square meter.

I do not normally use textures, but I was experimenting a bit here and I think it brings all the elements together in a better way. The light I had in the late afternoon helped to bring the textures out and pop the colors.

I think this is one of the best viewpoints you have in your way through Monument Valley as you can see the Three Sisters, The Thumb, The Camel Butte and a part of the Cly Butte in the foreground.

The golden leaf tree and the white dust (-from the car- Psst! We don't know that!-) are just a bonus!

Monument Valley natural structures were created through timeless erosion.

Stages of erosion:

Mesa - From the Spanish word for 'table' is a large rock formation that looks like a table (flat).

Butte - Is a smaller rock formation and the second stage of erosion from a mesa.

Spire - The final stage of erosion from a butte that becomes narrow and free standing.

Due to the desert climate, dormant trees are more numerous here than the alive ones.

Beginning of spring ( when we went there) brings life to the desert and we could see a lot of golden grasses and flowers along our way.

In the background we see East Mitten Butte - East and West Mitten Buttes look like hands, yet they signify spiritual beings watching over.

Situated approx. half an hour drive from the Valley, this 'funny' rock formation really looks like a Mexican hat! We were there at the beginning of spring so there are golden grasses everywhere.

The Tanzlay is a waterfall that is idyllically located in the forest near the town of Bitburg / South Eifel.

At this point, the Daufenbach flows over a mighty limestone block, creating the waterfall. The upper surface of the stone block is flat and smooth, so that it resembles a dance floor, hence the name.

The waterfall has been protected as a natural monument since 1978.

Conglomerates -of sandstone- (Shinarump) -Thin layer of several mountain sediments found on top of all monuments in the Valley. This hard rock acts as a shell that keeps the softer rocks together.

It is the largest waterfall in the Westfjords and has a total height of 100 meters. 30 m wide on top and 60 at the bottom. Below it are five other waterfalls: Háifoss, Úðafoss, Göngufoss, Hundafoss and Bæjarfoss

After Kirkjufell, my next major destination was Dynjandi, a 4.5-hour drive—actually even longer, since you have to stop so often to take pictures in the beautiful landscape of the Westfjords. Three kilometers from my destination, I feared I wouldn’t be able to go any further. A massive construction site—my car went from white to brown. After a 20-minute wait, a bulldozer cleared a ramp for me to continue on to Dynjandi. I was completely alone there; no other tourists had made it this far. Unfortunately, the footpaths were partly covered in 50 cm of snow and ice, and without crampons, there was no way up.

The Saarschleife, also known as the Great Bend in the Saar at Mettlach, is a water gap carved by the Saar River through a quartzite layer and today one of the most well-known tourist attractions of the Saarland.

Above this natural monument you can experience a high-light in the true sense of the word: The Treetop Walk Saarschleife is a 1,250 meter long canopy walkway in the Orscholz area of Mettlach, Germany. Built atop a rocky vantage point known as the "Cloef", it offers visitors views of the Saarschleife.
