Natural Grocers - Shawnee, Kansas

She recently discovered Pines Wheat Grass. Here's what she said:

"Happy Monday! Did anyone else start their morning with a green smoothie? Today I tried out powered wheatgrass from @wheatgrass_people (thanks to @naturalgrocers for the free sample packets). I blended the wheatgrass with a frozen banana, cashew milk, a splash of coconut water, and a half scoop of protein powder. This was a new one for me, and it was delicious!! Will drink again!"

Whitney's blog is at purposetonourish.com. She seeks to nourish the mind, body and spirit with HEALTHY meal plans, grocery lists and lifestyle tips. There you will find recipes that are ALWAYS gluten-free, often Vegan, inexpensive, with low waste. You will also find great articles on health and fitness.

Whitney was introduced to #PinesWheatGrass with a free foil ample packet. These are also available by using the contact page at wheatgrass.com. However, we recommend using Pines products in our amber glass bottles with special metal caps that allow us to remove the oxygen.

We have used this safeguard for more than 40 years. It prevents the loss of nutrition, color and quality that occurs when a #greensuperfood is packaged in plastic containers or paper packets.

We are the only green food company to use this standard and standards for growing and harvesting wheatgrass that were established in 1937 by Dr. Charles Schnabel, who is known as the father of wheatgrass. We still use many of his same fields in northeastern Kansas. In fact, our bottling and shipping facility is right across the road from one of his fields.

Pines is the only producer of #wholefood wheatgrass and alfalfa in Kansas that uses modern facilities built and used exclusively for certified #organic, #NonGMOProject verified, #Kosher, #glutenfree human food products. Unlike the other Kansas producer, our facilities have never been used to produce feed for confined-animals used by the meat industry,

The haul from a trip to the local Natural Grocer. Seems to be a theme here. And my salsa garden outside is now making peppers and tomatoes including the seeds I got from the Vigil Store at Chimayo last year....we'll see if they stay alive during the heat of the next few weeks....

Grab some non-GMO chips, some organic avocados and a bottle of Pines Wheat Grass powder for your next batch of guacamole. You’ll find Pines at #Sprouts, #NaturalGrocers, #FreshThyme, #VitaminShoppe and just about every natural food store. Just use your favorite guacamole recipe. Then add a heaping tablespoon of any Pines green superfood powder.

Pines is the only #greensuperfood producer to use amber glass bottles with special metal caps. Because of that packaging, the company can remove the oxygen from each bottle. As a result, they prevent the oxidation that occurs with plastic containers and packets.

Pines is located where Dr. Charles Schnabel, the father of #wheatgrass, conducted his research in the 1930s. Dr. Schnabel and other scientists supplied doctors and hospitals with powders packaged in oxygen-free amber glass bottles. That led to the body of medical research that inspired Ann Wigmore and other authors.

The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) discovered that only 1 in 10 Americans eat the amount of fruits and vegetables. In other words, 9 out of 10 people do not eat enough of those foods to protect themselves from disease. With Pines tablets, capsules and powders, you can ensure that you and your family have enough of the dark green, leafy vegetables that you need for good health. Although the tablets and capsules are convenient, the powders make great additions to many recipes including guacamole. All Pines products are #vegan, #glutenfree, #NonGMOProject Verified, #Kosher and #raw.

With the first green superfood in 1976, Pines has supported organic farming and sustainability for more than 40 years. That’s why, Pines has always sought to educate the public on the importance of eating food while using our resources to serve humanity by supporting charitable causes.

Natural Grocer's Vitamin Cottages have carried Pines Wheat Grass longer than any other natural food stores. They will soon carry Pines new product, Green Duo, a nutrient-dense blend of wheatgrass and alfalfa. Like all Pines products, Green Duo provides the dark green leafy vegetables the Centers for Disease Control say are lacking in 90% of diets. #GreenDuo is an economical and convenient way to increase your dark green, leafy vegetables.

Pines became the original #greensuperfood company when it introduced of #PinesWheatGrass in 1976. Our first customer was the co-founder of Vitamin Cottage, the late Margaret Isely. She brought #PinesWheatGrass into her store. Over the years, her family expanded Vitamin Cottage Natural Grocers to more than 130 stores in 19 States that carry Pines.

Pines is the only company that packages in earth-friendly amber glass bottles with special metal caps that allow removal of oxygen. That prevents the loss of nutrition that occurs with plastic tubs. It also prevents contamination from fossil fuel used to make plastic containers. Although it is difficult for stores to avoid carrying plastic, Natural Grocers offer a glass bottle alternative for most supplements they sell.

Natural Grocers shares Pines' strong commitment for #sustainable #organic #agriculture and our opposition to GMOs. Pines is the only grower of #wheatgrass and #alfalfa powders that is 100% organic. We do not practice "dual farming." That's farming where an agribusiness grows "organic" crops for a few weeks each year before returning to pesticide-based agriculture. Everything we grow at Pines is #CertifiedOrganic, #GlutenFree, #Kosher, #Vegan, #Raw and #NonGMOProject Verified. In fact, our alfalfa is the only Non-GMO verified whole food alfalfa powder for humans.

We do it all: grow, harvest, bottle and ship. Our bottling and shipping facility is right across the road from one of our fields.

We are blessed by our 40 years of association with #NaturalGrocers #VitaminCottage and share their commitment to organic #agriculture.

Natural Grocers holds a special place in the hearts of the people at Pines International. It was nearly 40 years ago when co-founders, Steve Malone and Ron Seibold, met Margaret Isely at the one and only Vitamin Cottage store at the time. The store became Pines' first customer and the first green superfood in the natural food marketplace.

Margaret spent several hours with the two men that day and gave them valuable information on how to introduce Pines' products to other stores. She continued to be a great supporter of Pines before and after her tenure as the National President of the organization that became the Natural Products Association. Margaret was impressed with Pines being packaged in amber glass bottles with special metal caps that allow the company to remove the oxygen from each bottle to prevent the oxidation and devitalization that occurs with plastic containers.

To this day, even with the proliferation of petrochemical ‪plastic‬ containers in the natural foods marketplace, you will usually find at least one item in every product category at Natural Grocers packaged in earth-friendly glass. Pines is proud to be the only green ‪superfood‬ in Natural Grocers to be packaged in oxygen-free glass bottles and the only company that follows the standards established in 1937 by Charles Schnabel, the father of wheatgrass, whose phenomenal body of research is referenced in books about ‪wheatgrass‬.

‪Natural Grocers‬ has grown from the one Vitamin Cottage to about 100 stores in 15 Western States. Please find one near you and join them Thursday for their 60th Anniversary: bit.ly/1DKIarX

A second Sprouts I visit after visiting the newly opened Cuhady location (#467). This Sprouts has the same interior as #467 and opened on 3/3/23, almost a year ago. This store obviously did not have the opening crowds Cuhady did, and will probably resemble it once the new opening crowds die off.

August 13

Did you know that Denton has a Natural Grocers? Is that a chain? I don’t even know. I DO know that they were giving away free sundaes and floats today though! Michael, Ahna, and I pushed through the crazy parking lot situation there so we could squeeze in and get our free treats. Then we guilt-bought some groceries while we were there. How could I turn down Boom Chicka Pop anyway, right? Such yum.

We adventured to Harvest House after lunch again today too. Turns out that’s a really great time of day to get coffee! Plus we got to see Andie, who was charming and fascinating as always.

I finally watched a documentary called Pump as well. It’s mostly about America’s lack of fuel options and how wack the oil industry is. I promise it’s way more interesting than I just made it sound. Give it a shot!

For the first time ever on this blog, I am featuring a Sprouts Farmers Market. This specific store opened a day prior to my visit on 2/16/24. Since this is a new store opening nearby, I decided that I should check it out.

While Albertsons and Kroger have been opening very little stores in the region in the past decade, and Stater mostly opening new stores in the Inland Empire, new Sprouts markets have started taking the area by storm, as the Arizona based chain has expanded in the region heavily in the past few years.

This store was crowded as any newly opened store is, which is expected. I'm sure if the store wasn't, that would not be a good sign for the store.
