In the cathedral of St Paul, located in Mdina, Malta. This is just a detail of an absolutely enormous nativity scene display - and to be honest it took me quite a while to spot Mary, Joseph and baby Jesus.

I dette dystre koronaåret er det tid for litt humor

In questo cupo anno della corona è tempo di un po 'di umorismo

En este sombrío año de la corona, es hora de un poco de humor

Remark:

I received the following comment from a friend: "I don't think it's possible how you put women away like that, it might have been better if it was a woman". My response "You're right, but we'll never know"

A good friend of ours carved this little nativity set from wooden spools. The little baby can be removed from the creche - one of the smallest spools I have ever seen.

This nativity scene inspired by Beato Angelico, Botticelli's Madonna del Magnificat and minor artists of the 15th century was created by the students and teachers of the "Emilio Greco" State Art High School in Catania. It was placed in the churchyard of the Basilica della Collegiata, an architectural masterpiece of Sicilian Baroque.

In the Christian tradition, a nativity scene is the special exhibition, particularly during the Christmas season, of art objects representing the birth of Jesus.

While the term "nativity scene" may be used of any representation of the very common subject of the Nativity of Jesus in art, it has a more specialized sense referring to seasonal displays, in particular sets of individual sculptural figures and props that are arranged for display.

The first living nativity scene, attributed to Saint Francis of Assisi, occurred in 1223 in the Italian town of Greccio. Francis had been inspired by his visit to the Holy Land, where he had been shown Jesus's traditional birthplace. (Wikipedia)

Merry Christmas

The Nativity - Adoration of the Magi. Mid - 3rd quarter 18th century Kostroma region. Museum of Russian Icons

Russian Orthodox Christmas is celebrated on January 7th, according to the Julian calendar. Currently, the difference between the Gregorian calendar and the Julian calendar is 13 days. Christmas is a public holiday in Russia, celebrated by many Christian Russians as one of the most important holidays of the year.

Dear friends, when you are in Moscow, try to find an opportunity to visit this museum.

The Museum of Russian Icons is the largest private collection of Eastern Christian art to date, combining the masterpieces of Russian icon painting from the 14th to the 20th centuries, as well as monuments once created by masters of Byzantium, Eastern Mediterranean, and Ethiopia. Founded in 2006 by the Moscow entrepreneur and philanthropist Mikhail Yuryevich Abramov, the museum now brings together about 5,000 exhibits, and its permanent exhibition takes up approx. 1,000 sq. m. (4 floors and more than 10 rooms) on Goncharnaya Street in Moscow. Visiting the museum, as well as all excursions, exhibitions, concerts, lectures on its territory are free for all groups of the population.
