I hate when fellow photographers tell other photographers what to do. Especially when it’s “don’t shoot in direct sun”. How else would I have gotten this shot with these striking colors and framing if not for the sun?

Ambling along the slick rock ridge of White Pocket at sunset is an exercise in walking amount colors.

Coyote Buttes South really is one of those places that defies the imagination. How could natural forces make something that looks so sculpted and perfect?

I think White Pocket would look fantastic under any conditions but it’s truly spectacular with a bright sunset peaking over the rocks and the brilliant sun truly illuminating the deep colors and hues of the landscape.

For World Photography Day- a word of thanks. Thankfulness for a wide world of wonders to capture in the shutter of my camera and thankfulness for having my art appreciated.

Spider Rock might be one of the most visually arresting landmarks in the entire National Park Service- a massive stone tower, shining in the sun and surrounded by the walls of an undulating and bending canyon. What a delight.

Much like Monument Valley, Canyon de Chelly isn’t just part of the iconic landscape of the American Southwest, it is still a living and breathing and active community within the Navajo Nation- it is the only National Monument that is not on Federal Land, but instead, on Navajo Nation land. Spider Rock, a towering monolith of sandstone in the canyon is believed to be the home of Spider Grandmother, a spiritual figure who gives advice, medicinal cures, and help. Mindfulness of the privilege of being here is the way to go.

Happy #worldphotographyday from one of the most strange and special places I’ve ever been: Grand Staircase Escalante National Monument’s Great Chamber. Officially part of a geological structure called Cutler Point, The Great Chamber is an open sandstone dome with a tall sand hill at its center, created by wind blasting away at the sandstone walls and carving the dome out of the mountain. The Great Chamber makes you work for the iconic shot- it’s a 25 mile drive from Kanab, Utah, mostly on backcountry roads that require a 4x4. And then, when you’re there, the trail from the road to the dome is steep but short- and all sand. Deep sand. And sandstone. But still, even as I emerged from the trail, exhausted, and having to sit down and rest before I even attempted to capture the beauty, I knew it was worth it. Those first few moments of just trying to catch my breath in The Great Chamber, even before I squeezed off a single shot, made me drink in the beauty of the place and be thankful that photography had gotten me to go to such a wild place.

Mayhem Ball. Tonight. Miami. Can’t wait.

This part of Antelope Canyon X looks like a lady made out of stone with her hair, flowing behind her. One of the guides also called her the “mother of the canyon”. While she was easy to see last year in earlier morning light, this year, cloaked in the darkness of the afternoon, she was much more ethereal, evocative, and hard to see.

Traveling through a slot canyon is an exercise in light and texture. Most times, the light is muted and soft and ethereal, causing the whole environment to glow and be uniform. But other moments, where the walls either recede or extend in dramatic fashion, bend the light and throw perspective into sharp relief. That’s what you’re seeing here.

The Toadstools of Grand

Staircase, just outside of Kanab, Utah is geological wonderland; one where not the forces of the Earth carved the landscape but Salvador Dali, himself, had a hand in crafting this bizarre symphony of stone.

El adjetivo del valenciano define perfectamente a este flamenco que no es joven del todo, pwro tampoco adulto y además su plumaje presenta un aspecto algo desaliñado… ¡A mi me encanta igualmente!

L’adjectiu del valencià defineix perfectament a aquest flamenc que no és jove del tot, però tampoc adult i a més el seu plomatge presenta un aspecte desmanegat… A mi m’encanta igualment!

The Valencian adjective perfectly defines this flamingo that is not quite young, but not quite adult either, and furthermore, its plumage presents a somewhat unkempt appearance... I love it anyway!

La garza imperial es una de las más llamativas del marjal, por no ser tan abundante como su prima la garza real. Suelen ser mas esquivas y además, al ser más pequeñas, pasan desapercibidas. Este ejemplar nos regaló unos instantes…Que, como veis, aprovechamos bastante bien.

L’agró roig és un dels més cridaners de la marjal, per no ser tan abundant com el seu cosí l’agró blau. Solen ser mes esquius i a més, en ser més menut, passa desapercebut. Aquest exemplar ens va regalar uns instants…Que, com veieu, aprofitàrem bastant bé.

The purple heron is one of the most striking birds in the marsh, as it is not as abundant as its cousin, the grey heron. They tend to be more elusive and, being smaller, often go unnoticed. This specimen gave us a few moments... Which, as you can see, we made the most of.

He de reconocer que yo soy más de “chivito”, pero esta especie me causa mucha simpatía por su forma de corretear y buscar a sus presas entre el fango de el marjal.

Haig de reconèixer que jo soc més de “xivito”, però aquesta espècie em causa molta simpatia per la seva manera de rondar i buscar a les seves preses entre el fang de la marjal.

I have to admit that I’m more of a ‘chivito,’ but I have a lot of sympathy for this species because of its way of prowling and hunting for its prey among the mud of the marsh.

Al finalizar, nos obsequió con esta pose que me recordó a la reverencia que los actores hacen al concluir su función, como si saludara a su público.

Aquest jove exemplar de camallonga comuna va compartir una llarga estona amb nosaltres, mantenint-se en total tranquil·litat mentre l’observàvem realitzar la seua rutina de brunyiment. En finalitzar, ens va obsequiar amb aquesta posa que em va recordar a la reverència que els actors fan en concloure la seua funció, com si saludara al seu públic.

Todo era muy diferente cuando realice esta foto, o quizás era muy parecido a como vivi el momento y ahora recorre mi memoria.

Estos simpáticos gorriones se estaban acicalando sobre un alambre en el marjal. Cada vez quedan menos pese a que se han adaptado a convivir en nuestras ciudades.

Contrallum i en moviment… Tot un repte. No obstant això, ací teniu l’instant en el qual aquest xatrac es deté en l’aire per a capbussar-se en l’arrossar i capturar un xicotet cranc. I ja de pas un picaport espontani que s’ha colat en el fons de l’escena…
