It's been in the news: "This is the first big partial eclipse to happen in the UK since 1999, and the next one isn't until August 2026, so this is a once-in-a-generation opportunity." - So all gear set up and waiting - hoping for a glimpse of that "once-in-a-generation" event...

BUT the weather didn't play by the rules where I live: Muddy skiess all morning... No sun to be seen, let alone the moon trying to cover it up...

Still, with all the gear in place, when the clouds went I decided to do a shot of the sun (background image - HDR'ed) and "post-processed" my moon in with Photoshop afterwards.

Ha: If you cannot rely on UK clear skies, create your own eclipse! ;-)

Aber bei einer genaueren Betrachtung zeigen sich viele Bezüge zu heutigen kulturellen, gesellschaftlichen und mithin politischen Erscheinungsformen und Herausforderungen, wie etwa der ganze Komplex rund um Fake News, dem (populistischen) Verdrehen von Wahrheit und Lüge, den weltweiten Fluchtbewegungen oder auch nicht zuletzt die immer bedeutender werdende Macht von Bildern und deren Manipulationsmöglichkeiten."

Der Künstler verwandelt das Museum in eine Blackbox, die gewohnte Perspektiven umkehrt und zum Träumen und Imaginieren einlädt.

Vom Verhältnis von Himmel und Erde, von oben und unten, von innen und außen handelt auch die mehrteilige Arbeit The Cloud (2018–2022). In vier Vitrinen fängt der Künstler vermeintlich flüchtige Wolken ein und „konserviert“ diese für die museale Präsentation. Die einzelnen Vitrinenobjekte bestehen jeweils aus mehreren bedruckten Glasscheiben, die hintereinander geschichtet zum freien Assoziieren von Formen einladen – wie beim Blick auf das Wolkenspiel am Himmel. Erst beim genauen Hinsehen werden in Erlichs Wolkenbildern Tiere oder die Umrisse Südamerikas sichtbar.
