Het "oude" Nederlands Dans Theater, van architect Rem Koolhaas, wordt nu afgebroken om plaats te maken voor nog meer hoogbouw aan de achterkant van het nieuwe Amare.

Circa 1992. This is a Polaroid Spectra print that had its emulsion manipulated while still soft during development. The markings made by manipulation don’t have any particular meaning. It was done for amusement only.
NDT or NDE is 'non-destructive testing’ or ‘-examination' which includes visual, ultrasonic and radiographic techniques among others. They are used to indicate or measure the condition of various processing equipment in the plant. Technicians who use those NDE tools are qualified at various levels of increasing skill and ability. My friend Tom B. was a contract NDE Technician who worked in our plant very often especially at unit shutdowns.
This particular photo was taken during the nighttime shift, hence the black background. If I recall correctly, Tom was on a structure surrounding coke drum vessels in our delayed coking unit.

Though I don’t remember the name of this particular Technician, he was one who worked in our plant during unit shutdowns.
At the bottom margin of the photo a bottle of couplant fluid can be seen in the technician’s hand. It’s the type of fluid such as glycerin used with ultrasonic testing (UT) probes in order to determine material thickness and for finding indications of certain flaws within the steel plate of the equipment being inspected.

The organ is from 1991, built by the French organ-builders Haerpfer. Wikipedia noted that te organ has a peculiar feature: "it has two separate consoles or keyboards; one located in the tribune with the organ, with a traditional mechanical connection to the instrument, and a second mobile keyboard which is located in the nave. The mobile keyboard has three keyboards and thirty-two foot pedals, which are connected by a multiplex system to the organ. It can play all the same notes as the traditional keyboard, as well as additional expressive notes that are specific to it."

Church of Notre Dame du Travail, Paris. Designed by architect Jules Astruc (1862-1955). Built in the then working class Paris neighbourhood of Plaisance in 1897-1902, the industrial design of the church and the materials used for its construction were meant to make the working class parishioners comfortable with a supposedly familiar environment.
Over the last 40 years, TWI has been at the forefront of the research, development and application of many non-destructive testing (NDT) technologies. The driving force behind these developments has been industry's need for techniques that would accurately locate, characterise and size flaws in every type of component and structure, from printed circuit boards to offshore platforms and from medical implants to nuclear reactor pressure vessels.
