I went out to see if there might be a good sunset, but hearing thunder in the distance, I looked to the north and saw this much more impressive view. The Piney Top-Pinnacle-Mt. Boteler series of peaks in Clay Co., NC, is on the right horizon, so it appears that the Nelson Ridge - Cold Branch - Tusquittee area was getting a soaking.

The focus of this morning was Mattamuskeet Sunrise. After sunrise I worked my way through the refuge to Engelhard for some composition scouting for another project. This small rural fishing community is a very special place. Engelhard is the shrimping hub for coastal NC. But another thing is, time hasn't changed much here in this community. The people here are polite and life seems to be a slower pace for most. Blink and you will miss it. Stop and you will witness a treasure that will be a lasting memory.
