The name of the village of Lower Slaughter stems from the Old English name for a wet land 'slough' or 'slothre' (Old English for muddy place) upon which it lies. This quaint village sits beside the little Eye stream and is known for its unspoilt limestone cottages in the traditional Cotswold style.
The stream running through the village is crossed by two small bridges.

The Latin name for the tiger is ‘Panthera tigris‘. They can live up to 26 years in captivity and in the wild. Tigers prefer to inhabit forests, grasslands and mangrove swamps. There are six distinctive tigers: Bengal, Indochinese, Malayan, Siberian, South China and Sumatran. White tigers are caused by recessive genes and inbreeding. There are as few as 30 Golden Tigers in captivity. There are three extinct breeds: Bali, Caspian and Javan. They can measure up to 11ft, including tail.
They can weigh up to 670lbs. The stripes that a tiger has are as unique as human fingerprints. Tigers are generally solitary creatures, but are seen as highly social able.

This charming little bird, despite its name, it is not actually a canary or a true flycatcher. It was long classified as a member of the Old World Flycatcher family, Muscicapidae. However, recent genetic analyses have revealed that it actually belongs to a distinct family, Stenostiridae.

Hope the name doesn't say it all: one of the most beautiful high valleys is the Verpeil Valley in the Kaunertal. The starting point is the Verpeilhütte, from this imposing backdrop you head towards the Verpeilspitze (approx. 3,400m), for example.
The name Alblasserdam is derived from its location near the creek Alblas where a dam was built. Inhabitants of Alblasserdam are called Alblasserdammers (singular: Alblasserdammer).
The town of Alblasserdam was first mentioned in the chronicles of Melis Stoke in 1299, but the municipality wasn't formed until 1447. Before that, it was part of Oud-Alblas.
Because of its location on the Noord river, one of the busiest waterways in Western Europe, water has played a major role in Alblasserdam's history. The river was important for its development and makes it an advantageous location for industry. Alblasserdam's strategic location also brought it negative consequences. For example, between 1350 and 1821, the Alblasserwaard polder flooded 32 times.

According to Wikipedia: Mellisuga is a genus of hummingbirds in the family Trochilidae. They are notable for being the first and second smallest bird species in the world.
The genus was introduced by the French zoologist Mathurin Jacques Brisson in 1760 with the vervain hummingbird as the type species.[ The name Mellisuga is a combination of the Latin words mel or mellis, meaning "honey" and sugere, meaning "to suck".
The name is kind of long, but it was worth researching. I love this plant. The actual flower is tiny, part of a cluster.

Thistle is the common name of a group of flowering plants characterised by leaves with sharp prickles on the margins, mostly in the family Asteraceae. Prickles can also occur all over the plant – on the stem and on the flat parts of the leaves. These prickles are an adaptation that protects the plant from being eaten by herbivores. Typically, an involucre with a clasping shape similar to a cup or urn subtends each of a thistle's flowerheads. The comparative amount of spininess varies dramatically by species. For example, Cirsium heterophyllum has minimal spininess while Cirsium spinosissimum is the opposite. Typically, species adapted to dry environments have greater spininess. The term thistle is sometimes taken to mean precisely those plants in the tribe Cardueae (synonym: Cynareae), especially the genera Carduus, Cirsium, and Onopordum. However, plants outside this tribe are sometimes called thistles, and when this is done, "thistles" would form a polyphyletic group. Pedra do Frade (Friar's Stone) provokes the imagination of visitors when they encounter the monumental stone leaning on a rock by the sea. The stone located at the end of Morro do Gi - Laguna - Brazil. Received this name because of the resemblance to a Franciscan friar. It balances its 30 tonnes and defies the law of gravity, measuring 9 meters in height and 5 meters in diameter.

Our handsome feathered visitor is tough to photograph. Can't be bothered to find a stylish perch to pose on. Tends to have his head down looking for tasty treats on the ground.
Sint Nicholaskerk is the most seen and at the same time overlooked church in Amsterdam as well as being one its most recent constructions, no one can miss this iconic structure upon arrival to the city walking from Centraal Station your eye is immediately drawn to it at 58 m in height it towers over the city skyline.
This Roman Catholic Church was designed by Architect Adrianus Bleijs and is a nod to the past combining elements of neo-Baroque and neo-Renaissance styles, completed in 1887 it was made a minor Basilica in 2012.
The church is dedicated to the 4th century charitable patron saint of children that became our Santa Claus as well as the patron saint of sailors and prostitutes, another winning combination.
In the Netherlands Santa Claus is known as Sinterklaas and a feast has been celebrated for over 700 years in his name and adopted in the early part of 20th century the tradition of leaving small gifts in children’s shoes was practiced on Dec 6th which has evolved now to become a Dec 5th evening tradition of gathering of family and friends to exchange gifts and laughter.
While Dutch Sinterklaas celebrations are mainly for the children its adult component is an annual grievance poem written to the recipient that must rhyme and be read out loud by the subject at the evening party all in good fun but beware you may get as good as you give.

That's the name of the band, really. There are from fur trapping capital of the world; Boston, Mass😄. The band came on short tour and spent few days in Toronto. I did see them twice on this day, as they played for swing dancers first and later joined me to see 'Frankie Foo' few doors down the street, where they all danced themselves. Last time they came here, I was one of the few people to see them, as their performance coincided with 'Raptors' game 5 in the basketball finals. Annie Linders, a versatile musician who sings and play trumpet is the leader, but 'borrowed' Taylor Maslin a local clarinet player.

Scientific name: Turdus philomelos.
Famous for smashing open snails and for the sweet song which gives this bird its name. The song thrush was once a common sight in UK woodland, but is sadly in decline. Info: Woodland Trust.

Found in the colors: yellow, orange, reddish orange, Marigold are plants with a special sense. Its leaves have a characteristic aroma and the planting with other more delicate plants are used because they have the fame to keep pests at a distance.
Native from Mexico, is plentiful in the summer. In landscaping it is used in groups, forming massive in large lawn spaces; in borders along paths but also develops well in pots and gardeners.
This flower needs full sun to grown, in soil composed of garden land and vegetable earth, with regular watering. It's tolerant to the cold and multiply by seeds.
Schie is the name for four waterways in the area of Overschie, South Holland, the Netherlands. There are the Delftse Schie, the Delfshavense Schie, the Rotterdamse Schie and the Schiedamse Schie. The existence of these four streams is the result of medieval rivalry among the cities of Delft, Rotterdam, and Schiedam for toll rights.
In 1903, a dike broke near Kandelaar, nearly draining the entire Schie into the low-lying surrounding fields.
In 1933, the Coolhaven (Cool harbor) was completed that provided a new and better connection between the Delfshavense Schie and the Nieuwe Maas, reducing the shipping on the other Schie canals.
After the bombardment of Rotterdam at the beginning of World War II, the rubble of the ruined city was used to backfill the Rotterdamse Schie. Only a small section at Overschie remains of the Rotterdamse Schie.
In 1989, the Delftse Schie between Delft and Rotterdam was transferred from municipal to provincial jurisdiction.
The Delfshavense Schie is now the main shipping connection between the Delftse Schie and Nieuwe Maas. Furthermore, it is also used for water management. On the other hand, the Rotterdamse Schie is mostly infilled and the Schiedamse Schie is little used for boating.
