A welcome spot for a breather on the way up to Ringing Roger and Kinder Scout. An opportunity to capture the pre-dawn colour and mist in Edale Valley.
Slight issue with the farm building too close to the edge of the frame, but worth sharing.
This was quite a scary image to make, as I was stood on a narrow ledge, with practically no room for manoeuvre - just the waves lapping against the rocks several feet below. Ideally, I would liked to have used a slightly wider angle to include more of the foreground and cliffs to the left, but I considered changing lenses at this spot to be a risky business, so I used what I had on the camera. I used a strong ND grad to retain the detail and colour in the sky. It's a flawed image, but one which was made in quite challenging circumstances.
Myton-on-Swale
The River Swale in Yorkshire is a major tributary of the River Ure, which becomes the River Ouse, which empties into the North Sea via the Humber Estuary. The river gives its name to the Swaledale valley through which it flows. This point, a short walk from the village, is the confluence of the two, it’s called Swale Nab. The River Swale is on my left, the River Ure is to the right of the photo. I’m standing on a mound which also displays a large sign directing all vessels travelling towards me from the River Ouse, along the Ure, as the Swale is unnavigable.
The River Swale is 73.2 miles in length and the River Ure 74 miles.
Thank you for your visit and your comments, they are greatly appreciated.
A female American kestrel flies off with a small rodent in her talons, procured from a marsh in Bosque del Apache. Unfortunately I failed to adjust the ISO setting for the lower light, and this action shot has a bit too much action (aka blur).
Doing an impression of Yorkshires very own Uluru, Saltwick Nab in the hour before low tide on a hot balmy evening that led to a wonderful sunset.

Shot on Leica X
It didn't quite work, I wanted separation between Black Nab and the cliffs behind but keeping the detail.. it's not hdr, just using filters and the late evening sun:-)
EN: From the big shooting range in southern Lüneburger Heide train 68761 returns tanks from Trauen to Straubing in Bavaria. The train is observed arriving to Beckedorf station.
Another shot from my recent trip to Saltwick Bay, this time without the wreck and closer in to Black Nab, which has an uncanny resemblance to a nuclear ballistic submarine.
By the time I took this there was some great colour in the sky as the sun started to set.

Saltwick Bay is a north-east facing bay approximately one mile (1.6 km) to the east of Whitby, on the east coast of North Yorkshire, England. The bay contains the Saltwick Nab alum quarries, listed under the Ancient Monuments and Archaeological Areas Act 1979. The bay is part of the Saltwick Formation and known for its collections of fossils. The SS Rohilla hospital ship sank in the bay in 1914, and the fishing trawler Admiral Van Tromp was shipwrecked there in 1976.
Sunset at Black Nab,Saltwick Bay,Whitby. This is a shot I have been looking forward to taking for some time. For a short period of time the sun sets over the sea on the East Coast of England from this point. It also gave me the chance to see the wreckage of the Admiral Von Tromp - which can be seen in the foreground. www.scarboroughsmaritimeheritage.org.uk/aadmiralvontromp.php On the left, can be seen Saltwick Nab,which has the shape of a humpback whale.

Country towns like Jandowae are full of architectural gems no matter where you are in Australia. One type of building with distinctive traits is this abandoned former bank building. As the sign says, this is the former Queensland National Bank/National Bank/National Australia Bank or as we know it, the NAB. It isn't entirely abandoned, still nicely maintained I saw some people come and go.
