Spent a couple of hours photographing commercial aircrafts at Harry Reid Airport, a few day ago. It was fun! Not something I’d do a lot of but will definitely do more of this type of photography.

Southwest Airlines has a long history with the Boeing 737, the airframe that kicked off their operations back in 1971 when they were a small airline operating regional flights surrounding their home of operations at Dallas-Love Field in Texas. Over 50 years later, the carrier operates the largest fleet of Boeing 737s anywhere in the world and has defined the operations of a low-cost airline.
For the carrier, the operations of the Boeing 737 is entrenched in Southwest Airlines history; the carrier along with USAir was pivotal in the development of the second-generation Boeing 737 Classic family, being the second airline to take delivery of the Boeing 737-300 just a few days after USAir took delivery of the first in late-1984. Southwest Airlines would also be the launch customer of the short Boeing 737-500 in 1990.
By 1997, the carrier would be the first airline to take delivery of the Boeing 737 Next-Generation in 1997 with the Boeing 737-700 being the first within the family introduced.
Southwest Airlines continues to modernise their fleet; the Boeing 737-200s were the first to leave the fleet unsurprisingly with their retirement in 2005, this was followed by the Boeing 737 Classic family in 2017 with the transition to the Boeing 737 MAX. With Southwest Airlines continuing the acceleration of the Boeing 737 MAX, this has seen the gradual phasing out of the Boeing 737-700s which began in 2018... So far, 108 have been withdrawn from service with one written-off and a second from accident damage; the remaining examples withdrawn as leases were not renewed and high-cycles from constant service since 1997.
One recent casualty that was captured is a 1999-built N752SW, having conducted her last commercial flight on 7th July 2023 operating from Houston-Hobby to Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta, the next day it would be ferried to Birmingham-Shuttlesworth in Alabama on a likely one way to trip. Many more Boeing 737-700s will likely face the axe as more Boeing 737 MAXs enter service.
Currently, Southwest Airline operates 806 Boeing 737s, which includes 406 Boeing 737-700s, 207 Boeing 737-800s and 193 Boeing 737 MAX 8s. Southwest Airlines have 165 Boeing 737 MAX 7s and 184 Boeing 737 MAX 8s on-order.
November Seven Five Two Sierra Whiskey was delivered new to Southwest Airlines on 6th October 1999 until being withdrawn from service on 8th July 2023 where she is currently in long-term storage at Birmingham-Shuttlesworth, Alabama. She was powered by 2 CFM International CFM56-7B24 engines.

"S/N" is the aircraft's serial number. "L/N" is a Boeing code denoting what order the airframe came off the production line. "F/N" refers to an individual airline's fleet numbering system. Not all airlines use a fleet number; not all manufacturers use a line number.

"S/N" is the aircraft's serial number. "L/N" is a Boeing code denoting what order the airframe came off the production line. "F/N" refers to an individual airline's fleet numbering system. Not all airlines use a fleet number; not all manufacturers use a line number.

About to turn off runway two-zero right at Nashville. This livery is no more now that all the airplanes are painted in either a special scheme or canyon blue.
Taken while on delay at Philadelphia International Airport. A Southwest Airlines 737 of some generation. I unfortunately cannot read the number on the front gear doors, otherwise I could tell you for sure. There are winglets in the image, and I suspect she may be N752SW, which is a 700 series.
San Diego is a busy airport in Southern California handling largely domestic traffic but with direct international flights from Tokyo (JAL), London (BA), Toronto (Rouge) and Vancouver (Westjet). The flat area around the airport is very poor for photography due to the multiple layers of security fencing, but the up-town hotels, especially the Doubletree and the Four Points, afford great views of landing aircraft. I have only ever seen them use Runway 27 for approach & landing, although 09 is available.
