Travel back in time to 1974 and listen to Muhammad Ali talk about his upcoming "Rumble in the Jungle" bout with George Foreman.
This 2-minute video includes his famous “I’m so bad, I make medicine sick!” 😊

So, as seems customary this time of year, it's time for our #topnine. It's been a weird year and it seems we've got a range of pictures to match - from Trump's injectable bleach to a bike shed we painted. I'm glad that the video of our overcomplicated 3-in-1 Muhammad Ali mural came in at no.1. It was based on a sketch my dad did in the 70's and is probably the piece i'm most proud of this year. I just hope we get a chance to expand on the 3-in-1 theme next year. See you on the flip side...
Cheers

Saving the Best For Last :) Wow I so got lucky on this shot!!!
This is Muhammad Ali, who was the grand marshall of the parade and is from
Louisville. We have a new Ali Center downtown in his honor and the city of
Louisville will always both worship and honor his presence.
He's actually looking at the camera in this shot. It's harder for me to tell looking at it this size, but when I blow the original up larger, it's pretty obvious!
This photo was listed at #36 for interestingness on Explore for 6/26/06
Sarnia Sertoma Clubs Annual Sportsman Dinner 1974 Guildwood Inn - Muhammad Ali doodle on tablecloth. Larry Csonka was scheduled but couldn't make it (too bad), but Ali stepped in last minute which was "the greatest"!
George Chavalo was also a speaker that night. Saw that Ali was doodling away, didn't know onto what, until after the dinner. Raced up to the table, saw the doodle, saw it was signed, dated and began removing dishes etc and rolled up the tablecloth.
It was a night to remember... #RIP #MuhammadAli #Ali

The clock tower was a gift to Mohammad 'Ali from Louis Philippe of France in 1845. Because the mosque was still being built, it was placed in the Mohammad 'Ali Palace in Shubra. Sa‘id Pasha moved the clock tower to the mosque in 1855. Although renovations have just been completed (2022), it still does not work!
In return, Muhammad 'Ali gave Louis Philippe one of the obelisks of Ramses II from in front of the pylon of the Temple of Luxor, which now stands in the Place de la Concorde in Paris.

This collection of images has been assembled in support of the Washington Heritage Festival 2013.
The celebration of Washington brings together a variety of different themes. Washington is a Town in the City of Sunderland, Tyne & Wear. It is traditionally associated with Coal Industry, and notably known as the home of the Washington Family, ancestors of the First President of the United States George Washington.
However, in 1964 Washington was designated a New Town and drastically changed. With the introduction of new industry such as the Nissan Car Factory Washington experienced a huge redevelopment in both its economy and community.
These Photographs are taken from the Records of the Washington Development Corporation; held at Tyne & Wear Archives. The records document this change in industry, landscape and community in Washington between 1964 & 1988, and consist of many photographs.

With stage 2 of my overcomplicated 3-in-1 Muhammad Ali canvas completed I was all set to remove the tape to be left with my stage 3 final mashup image when I had an idea. Since removing the tape itself is pretty darn satisfying and you don't quite know what you'll get until it's all removed then perhaps that could be considered a unique selling point. I know it would be for me.
So, for a limited time, this canvas is being offered for sale as is - for £150 (plus p&p). You could then remove all or none of the tape. Up to you. This time will be limited to an unspecified time and will be based on how long I can refrain from doing it myself. I reckon I can last at least 24 hours...
Made using the power of imagination, stencils, spray paint, tape and a sketch of my dad's of Ali from some time in the 70's on a 60x60cm canvas. Drop us a line if you need to peel that tape off yourself...
Cheers

Bulgarian guy from Warna I meet on my road to Lublin. He bore several raw tattoos and was pretty collaborative but he doesn't wanted to tell me his name. This is the first ink he got at the age of 10.

The Citadel is a fortified enclosure begun by Salah al-Din in 1176 AD on an outcrop of the Muqattam Hills as part of a large defensive system to protect both Cairo to the north and Fustat to the southwest. It was the center of Egyptian government and residence of its rulers until 1874, when Khedive Isma'il moved to 'Abdin Palace. It is still occupied by the military today, but is now open as a tourist attraction comprising, notably, the National Military Museum, the 14th century Mosque of al-Nasir Muhammad, and the 19th century Mosque of Muhammad Ali which commands a dominant position on Cairo's skyline

The courtyard, as at the mosques of Sulayman Pasha and Malika Safiyya, is surrounded by rounded arcades carrying small domes. These domes are supported by large, though relatively simple marble columns. The courtyard is almost square, measuring 54 by 53 meters. The courtyard has a northern and southern entrance from the mosque. In the middle of the courtyard is a marble ablution fountain with a carved wooden roof on columns. The fountain is lavishly decorated in a style similar to that of the sabil-kuttab facing the madrasa of al-Nasir on Mu'izz street. That structure was built by Ismail Pasha in 1828. The sabil and the upper part of the courtyard facade are decorated with small oval wall paintings on which Mediterranean landscapes are represented

“Fighter’s Heaven”, Muhammad Ali’s Training Camp in Deer Lake, Pennsylvania, was the training facility built by Muhammad Ali, where he trained for some of his biggest fights. It is now open to the public, free of charge, to tour.
Al-Rifa‘i (Ahmad ibn ʽAli al-Rifaʽi) 1119-1183, was an Iraqi Sunni Muslim preacher, ascetic, mystic, jurist, and theologian, known for being the eponymous founder of the Rifaʽi tariqa (Sufi order) of Islam. Although this mosque is named after him, the shrine contains the burials of his grandson, 'Ali Abu Shibbak al-Rifai and another Sufi mystic, 'Abd Allah al-Ansari.
The Mosque of al-Rifa'i replaced a zawiya (shrine) of the sufi saint, al-Rifa'i. It is also the royal mausoleum of Muhammad 'Ali's family, in addition to Hosh al-Basha (the Courtyard of the Pasha), in the Southern Cemetery.
Patron: commissioned by Hoshiyar Qadin (Hoşyar Kadın) ?-1885, consort to Ibrahim Pasha & Walida Pasha to their son, Isma'il Pasha.
Original architect: Hussein Pasha Fahmi (a distant cousin of Muhammad 'Ali), Minister of Awqaf, who died in 1880 when work stopped.
Construction Supervisor: Khalil Agha chief eunuch & director of estates for Isma'il Pasha.
Completed: work resumed in 1905 when the Khedive, Abbas II, ordered its completion. Work was supervised by architect Max Herz (Herz Miksa, Hungarian) 1856-1919, head of the Comité de Conservation des Monuments de l'Art Arabe.
