Muhammad Ali Jinnah Urdu: محمد على جناح (December 25, 1876 – September 11, 1948) was a Muslim politician and leader of the All India Muslim League who founded Pakistan and served as its first Governor-General. He is officially known in Pakistan as Quaid-e-Azam (Urdu: قائد اعظم — Great Leader) and

Best Known As: Founder of Pakistan

Muhammad Ali Jinnah was a lawyer and politician who fought for the cause of India's independence from Britain, then moved on to found a Muslim state in Pakistan in 1947.

Jinnah entered politics in India in 1905 and by 1917 his charisma and diplomacy had made him a national leader and the most visible supporter of Hindu-Muslim unity. His strong belief in gradual and peaceful change was in contrast to the civil disobedience strategies of Mohandas Gandhi, and in the '20s Jinnah broke from the Indian National Congress to focus on an independent Muslim state.

In 1940 he demanded a separate nation in Pakistan and by 1947 he somehow managed to get it from the British and India. Through civil wars, a rotten economy and millions of displaced refugees, Quaid-i-Azam Jinnah ("great leader") pretty much built a country from scratch.

In his biography of Jinnah titled "Jinnah of Pakistan", the historian, Stanley Wolpert, makes the following observation that succinctly describes the legacy of Jinnah and his footprint on history:

Few individuals significantly alter the course of history. Fewer still modify the map of the world. Hardly anyone can be credited with creating a nation-state. Muhammad Ali Jinnah did all three.

Jinnah is depicted on all Pakistani rupee notes of denominations five and higher, and is the namesake of many Pakistani public institutions. The former Quaid-i-Azam International Airport, now called the Jinnah International Airport, in Karachi is Pakistan's busiest.

One of the largest streets in the Turkish capital Ankara — Cinnah Caddesi — is named after him. In Iran, one of the capital Tehran's most important new highways is also named after him, while the government released a stamp commemorating the centennial of Jinnah's birthday. The Mohammad Ali Jenah Expressway of Tehran is also named after him.

In Chicago, a portion of Devon Avenue was named as "Mohammed Ali Jinnah Way". The Mazar-e-Quaid,

Jinnah's mausoleum, is among Karachi's most imposing buildings. There is a "Jinnah Tower" in Guntur, Andhra Pradesh, India, which was built to commemorate Jinnah.

Jinnah was played by Christopher Lee in the 1998 feature film Jinnah.

Certificates distribution ceremony held of Developing Critical Mass

for Educational Reform in Chitral

CHITRAL: Since its inception in 2003, the Aga Khan University’s

Professional Development Centre in Chitral (AKU-PDCC) has been

offering a variety of high quality innovative programs for building

the capacity of schools and key stakeholders in Chitral, other parts

of Pakistan, and Afghanistan. Over 2600 teachers, head teachers, and

education managers have thus far attended various Certificate and

short courses offered by this institution. PDCC. has also developed a

number of schools as model in multi-grade teaching and ECED. Its

faculty have engaged in research and published a number of articles

and book chapters in various national and international journals and

books. PDCC has recently won a very competitive research grant award

from Higher Education of Pakistan to study the role of civil society

institutions in promoting cultural diversity and pluralism in Chitral.

A colorful ceremony was organized at PDCC to celebrate the successful

completion of two Certificate Courses in ‘Educational Leadership and

management’ and ‘Primary Education’. A total of 39 head teachers and

teachers graduated from these two courses. 22 out of 39 were from

government schools. Executive District Officer primary and elementary

schools Muhammad Siraj was chief guest on the occasion while there

ceremony was presided over by Sultan Mehmood Regional Program

Manager Hashoo Foundation. The ceremony was attended by

educationists, leaders of the civil society institutions, and teachers

community.

Speaking at the ceremony, Dr. Mir Afzal Tajik, Head Outreach AKU-IED

and Head PDCC highlighted key issues and hurdles in the way of

improving the quality of education in the district. He also

highlighted how these courses have helped the graduates to address

these issues and thus bring about positive changes in their schools.

He urged that bringing about positive changes in schools is possible

but the head teachers and teachers have to initiate the change. The

purpose of these courses was to develop the ‘change agents’ needed to

initiate and lead the change.

Siraj Muhammad, EDO Education Chitral, thanked AKU-PDCC for its

continuous efforts to enhance the capacity of schools and to develop

leadership and change agents for schools in Chitral. He urged the

graduates to implement what they have learnt in the courses and

assured them of his full support. He particularly thanked PDCC

leadership for their cooperation with the government education. He

also advised the graduates that they should work with full enthusiasm

and diligence.

Sultan Mehmood and others also lauded AKU-PDCC for its valuable

contributions to capacity building of key stakeholders in Chitral.

Mrs. Commandant Chitral Scouts while talking on the occasion expressed

her great sorrow on trend of cheating. She said that mostly graduate

and post graduates students could not speak transparently and they are

very poor in general knowledge. Although they have degrees but no

knowledge it means that they use unfair-means in examinations or warm

palm of Board and university staff. She said that during recruitment

of Chitral scouts some 31 candidates were pulled out from test hall

because of involving in cheating. She said that our head teaches and

teachers can bring positive changes. She appreciated decision of

provincial government to bound government schools teaches to enroll

their children in Govt. schools not in private one so as to couscous

about the future of their own children and they will teach honestly to

their students. At last Certificates were distributed amongst the

graduates.

Institute of Sindhology, University of Sindh Jamshoro Photography By Muhammad Arif Channa

In 1962, the University of Sindh established an institution called the " Sindhi Academy ". Its aims and objectives were:

(1) to establish a research library containing all available books and manuscripts, written in any language, providing information about Sindh, its past and present; and

(2) to publish research material produced in Sindhi and other Pakistani languages and in English, Persian and Arabic including relevant Ph.D. thesis submitted to the university of Sindh or any other university of Pakistan. The aim was to promote research on Sindh and assist research scholars in getting relevant material. The celebrated Scientist Dr. M. Raziuddin Siddiqi was at the helm of affairs as the Vice-chancellor at that time. He was supported by renowned scholars Dr. Nabi Bakhsh Khan Baloch, Muhammad Hanif Siddiqui , Pir Hussamuddin Rashdi and Ghulam Ali Allana to run the Sindhi Academy .

In 1964, the Advisory Board of Sindhi Academy decided to change the nomenclature and the status of Sindhi Academy to the “Institute of Sindhology " with enhancing its aims and objectives.

Institute of Sindhology (Sindhi: سنڌولوجي) is one of the major resource on history of Sindh. It was the first research institution of its discipline that brought Sindhology to the forefront of international research.[1] Sindhology is referred to as the knowledge about Sindh. The history and culture of Sindh has been shaped by the Indus river, as the lifeline of Sindh, brings minerals and soil from Himalayas to the region and flows into the Arabian Sea at Indus River Delta located in Sindh. These factors define the scope of Sindhology to cover the study of antiquities, the relics, the history, and the culture of both of ancient and modern Sindh with particular reference to Sindhi society and literature. The institute, thus provides a repository of this knowledge in the form of a research-oriented institution.

>The Following Modus Operandi was opted:

To work on the pattern of Indology and Egyptology

To encourage research on the Indus valley civilization, through the ages &

To interpret Sindh, Indus civilization and its contribution to human history and civilization.

In the words of Dr. M. Raziuddin Siddiqi, "Great things very often begin in a small way", this institution was founded in a small room of 8'x8' at the Sindh University, Old Campus, Hyderabad. The foundation stone of the present independent and majestic building situated on the Hyderabad-Karachi Super Highway (adjacent to right side of Indus river. 12 km from Hyderabad and 150 km from karachi) was laid down on 10th December 1972 and the Institute was shifted in the new building in 1978. The Institute's building is the masterpiece and the best portrayal of amalgamations of the Islamic and Buddhist architectures on Allama I.I. Kazi Campus, Jamshoro. The three-storey main building decorated with beautiful Hala tile-work gives a magnificent look, with its two arms housing the Research Library and Administration Block. The main domed building houses the Anthropological Research Centre (Museum), Art Gallery, Film and Photographic Sections and Audio-visual Section. The extension made at the time of Silver Jubilee Celebrations in 1987 houses the Book Depot and Gift shop.
