The last eruptions (9 of them) of Krafla volcano in northeast Iceland (in the Mývatn area) were between 1975 and 1984 and involved 15 uplift and subsidence events. The eruptions left behind a volcanic caldera of about 10 km in diameter with a 90 km long fissure zone. The caldera lies on the fault line that separates the North American from the Eurasian tectonic plate and is highly volcanic, hosting a very active geothermal field.
