Whakarewarewa are the geothermal pools located near Rotorua in the Bay of Plenty region of New Zealand's north island. There are geysers, mud pools, and...plenty of pleasant odors? It's worth a visit, and there's a comfortable boardwalk that goes around the mudpools.

Hauanu mud pools. This was a amazing sight, The earth is totally useless and the smell of sulphur was overpowering.

Krafla is a caldera of about 10 km in diameter with a 90 km long fissure zone, in the north of Iceland in the Mývatn region. Its highest peak reaches up to 818 m; it has erupted 29 times and it is 2km in depth.

Went up to Husavik for some whale watching and overnight camping. On the way back we stopped at Krafla near Myvatn and Goðafoss.

A truly unique geothermal wonderland, one of natures true gifts. Cross the Waikato River by boat, then explore another world of gushing geysers, hot springs, boiling mudpools and some of the largest silica terraces in the world.

   

Lake Taupo is the site of the world's largest eruption in the last 5,000 years. The results of its earth shattering creation can be seen everywhere with active volcanoes, spetacular steaming cliffs, geysers, boiling lakes, bubbling mudpools and floating rocks called pumice. As I sat opposite the lake I noticed this leafless tree...

I believe this one has the added attraction of being so acidic it would burn you even if it wasn't boiling.
