Movember and No-Shave November are two movements dedicated to raising awareness for some of the most common health challenges faced by men: prostate cancer, testicular cancer, and mental illness. The concept behind these movements is to go shave-free for the entire month of November (women can participate, too!).

Movember is an annual, month-long celebration of the moustache, highlighting men’s health issues, specifically prostate cancer and depression in men.
Mo Bros, supported by their Mo Sistas, start Movember (November 1st) clean shaven and then have the remainder of the month to grow and groom their moustache. During Movember, each Mo Bro effectively becomes a walking billboard for men’s health and, via their Mo, raises essential funds and awareness for Movember’s men’s health partners – The Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia and beyondblue – the national depression initiative. At the end of Movember, a series of Gala Partés are held to thank Mo Bros and Sistas for their support and fund raising efforts.
The idea for Movember came about in 2003 when a few mates were having a beer in a small bar in Fitzroy, Melbourne. Inspired by the women’s health movement, it was recognized that men were lacking a way to engage and actively involve themselves in their own health. During a conversation about fashion and past trends, the idea came up to bring the moustache back for one month, and in doing so, have some fun, raise a small amount of money and hopefully encourage men to talk about their health with each other.
Since this time, Movember has continued to grow each year, both in terms of participation numbers and funds raised. In its first year, 30 Mo Bros took part in Movember and last year, in Australia alone, 125,000 Mo Bro & Sistas got on board, raising more than $8million for each of Movember’s men’s health partners.
So every November, there is this magical thing thats been started called Movember. To quote the site:
Movember is an annual, month-long celebration of the moustache, highlighting men’s health issues - specifically prostate and testicular cancer.
All the male employees at TKG are encouraged to participate and since some of the guys there have a bit of a problem growing something substantial in a month, we don't have to start the month clean shaven.
Oh and by the way, my jaw line has not been skin since about '06. Feelng the breeze on my chin is awkward.

I have been participating in Movember for the past 12 years now, and I am always happy to be raising awareness regarding men's health issues. This is my progress 3 weeks in.

Round 2 of MoVember in SL!
"SL Movember 2015 is here and we're looking for your best mustache pics! This year, we'll be selecting 15 of the shots to appear in Wintergeist's LA Gallery. The deadline for submissions for those who want to be considered for the show is Nov. 12th, but we hope you'll keep the pics coming through the end of November !
Here's how all this started...
In 2004, a group in Melbourn Australia organized an event where 30 men would grow a mustache for 30 days in order raise awareness for prostate cancer and depression in men. This group would later become the Movember Foundation Charity.
The Movember Foundation has since raised $174 million worldwide after spreading to South Africa and Europe and reaching North America in 2006. In 2010, participants in the United States alone raised over $7.5 million. In 2012, 1.1 million people signed up to participate and raised upwards of $95 million.
As the granddaughter of a prostate cancer victim, this is an important issue and I hope that with your help we can bring greater awareness in our little community. Take the time to slap on a ‘stache, shoot a selfie (or one of a friend) and post it on your page and to our little group (make sure to tag it Movember) … and then, when someone asks “why the stache?”, you can be part of the Movember Movement yourself ! The pics don't have to be of your avi.. get creative !
And PLEASE tell all your male friends to get checked.. early detection is critical (starting at 50 and then again at 55, 60, and 70)
Thanks and hugs,
Daze <3 "

for those who do not know what Movember is:
Movember is the only charity tackling men’s health on a global scale, year round. We have one goal: to stop men dying too young.
You show your support by growing your moustache for the month of November. In return people donate to the charity.
For the past 11 years, I have grown a moustash to support and raise awareness of men’s health issues. I am normally clean shaven, but I am always impressed by how my moustash looks by the end of the month.
