The intricately carved arches of the 17th century Jama Masjid mosque in Old Delhi are a wonder.

The mosque is actually called Hadji Hassan Mosque (after the Turkish governor Gazi Hassan Pasha). However, it is also known as the Loggia Mosque because of its beautiful columned loggia.

The mosque was built between 1765 and 1786. During the earthquake on the night of 21.07.2017 the well was badly damaged, its dome crashed to the ground. The minaret and some windows were also damaged, the corridor around the building was closed.

The mosque is no longer used as such today. Unfortunately, they can not be visited because of dilapidation.

“Allah says in the Qur'an not to despise one another. So the criterion in Islam is not color or social status. It's who is most righteous. If I go to a mosque - and I'm a basketball player with money and prestige - if I go to a mosque and see an imam, I feel inferior. He's better than me. It's about knowledge.”

Marrakesh, Morocco

The mosque was founded in 1147 by the Almohad caliph Abd al-Mu'min right after he conquered Marrakesh from the Almoravids. A second version of the mosque was entirely rebuilt by Abd al-Mu'min around 1158, with Ya'qub al-Mansur possibly finalizing construction of the minaret around 1195. This second mosque is the structure that stands today. It is considered a classic and important example of Almohad architecture and of Moroccan mosque architecture generally. The minaret tower, 77 metres (253 ft) in height, is decorated with varying geometric arch motifs and topped by a spire and metal orbs. It likely inspired other buildings such as the Giralda of Seville and the Hassan Tower of Rabat, which were built shortly after in the same era. The minaret is also considered an important landmark and symbol of Marrakesh.

Bolo Haouz Mosque is a historical mosque in Bukhara, Uzbekistan. Built in 1712, on the opposite side of the citadel of Ark in Registan district, it is inscribed in the UNESCO World Heritage Site list along with the other parts of the historic city. It served as a Friday mosque during the time when the emir of Bukhara was being subjugated under the Bolshevik Russian rule in 1920s. Thin columns made of painted woods were added to the frontal part of the iwan (entrance) in 1917, additionally supporting the bulged roof of summer prayer room. The columns are decorated with colored muqarnas.

The mosque is rectangular shaped. The prayer room during the winter time is a room with four columns and several entrances. The 12-meter-high iwan, bordered by bulged roofs sustained with twenty wood columns, serves as a summer prayer room attached to the three sides of the winter hall. The wooden columns rest on concrete foundation.

The interior of the mosque is typical 18th-century Central Asian style. The small minaret was built in 1917.

The venerable Jama Masjid, captured from Gumbad Restaurant. Well worth the visit. We were gone between 4 and 5 p.m. and climbed the tower. Afterwards we were able to watch a church service and walk around in the large courtyard, where many people met and sometimes sat together on the floor, talking. Afterwards we went to a neighboring restaurant with a roof top area. Soon it was getting dark and the illuminated mosque presented itself advantageously.

The Omayyad Mosque was built in the year 715 and is one of the largest and oldest mosques in the world.
