Fossil Mosasaurus skull found at the Charles M. Russell National Wildlife Refuge in Phillips County, Montana. At the Museum of the Rockies in Bozeman, Montana. Mosasaurs are not dinosaurs, but lizards.
These animals lived about 70 to 65 million years ago, and were about 60 feet long. They looked like a crocodile with flippers, and hunted fish, reptiles, and other dinosaurs in the Inland Seaway -- a vast shallow ocean that occupied central North America from the Rocky Mountains to the Appalachians (all the way from the Gulf of Mexico north to the Arctic Sea).
Dinosaur collection comisioned in 1852 and unveiled in 1854, in exhibition in the London park of Crystal Palace. These models are clearly out of date, but they are anyway beautiful.
At the time, they caused outrage amongst British creationist (Point for Darwin...)
From Wikipedia: Though a portion of the three Ichthyosaurus are submerged by water (though early shots show that unlike the Mosasaurus most of the model was completed) they are in fact basking on the land similar to Seals or Walrus do today, something we now know would kill them. In the time of the Crystal Palace Dinosaurs' productions the beasts were considered more along the lines of crocodiles or the Plesiosaurus; recently it has been uncovered they have more in common with sharks and dolphins with a dorsal fin and fish-like tail, both of which are not present in Hawkins's models. Instead the tails are a flat protuberance from a straight backbone. A further discrepancy is that the models' eyes have exposed sclerotic plates (bones that stopped their eyes from being crushed by the pressure under sea). However as a whole the ichthyosaurs are one of the more accurate animals and became one of the three 'mascot dinosaurs' along with the Iguanodon and Megalosaurus (although ichthyosaurs are not dinosaurs at all).
Part of the Dinasour Trail in Crystal Palace Park, created by Benjamin Waterhouse Hawkins back in 1854 and Grade I listed.
On the left hand side by the lake is the Mosasaurus.

A redo of my most popular image.
The 3D Mosasaur was created by myself (Craig Dylke). Contact me about my 3D art at fossil3d@gmail.com
The background photo was taken by someone else, and I forgot to record who. If this is your shot I've used please let me know so I can credit you. If my use of your photo really offends you I'll gladly take it down, but I haven't nor do I intend to make any money from this piece.
About 75km or 47 miles drive from my home to Iga-city, Mie.
Lying down in my car quietly.
Good girl!
My own design of robots transforming into prehistoric DINOSAURS. The five members, the Edaphosaurus, the Pterodactylus, the Unaysaurus, the Mosasaurus and the Suchomimus unite in the gestalt DINOTRON. Many pieces were made directly on paper without template but I also use recycled pieces from others works that I have destroyed. The colors and sizes are taken from design in squared notebook.

Muchas piezas fueron hechas directamente en papel sin plantillas, pero también usé piezas recicladas de trabajos que he destruido. Colores y dimensiones son tomados de un diseño en cuaderno cuadriculado.

It was an amazing sight, seeing the dinosaurs at Jurassic World.
And yes, they cloned the Raptors.
Unfortunately, due to "technical difficulties," we had to leave the Park and the island before we had a chance to see the Mosasaurus. We did get to see the lab with some eggs and some baby dinos, and amber with the insects still in it.
Maybe they'll get the problems solved so we can go back and safely see the rest of the awesome things there.
