My shot for #monomonday (is that even a thing on flickr?) is the famous lone tree in Glencoe. Often photographed more to the left so the tree doesnt cut the mountains… but I quite liked the shot moving more left due to the strong light I had at the time which was blowing out much of the scene… I also liked the more elongated shape of the tree!

I haven't gotten out much lately so went to the old files to find one for Mono Monday. This old barn fell down several years ago and there is no longer any evidence that it existed.
A parable for our time.
Hard to grasp the scale of the Houston Medical Center: 61 medical institutions, serving more than 10 million patients each year--compared to 2.3 million residents in the city, and 7 million in the metropolitan area. MD Anderson Cancer Center is only the 3rd largest of the 21 hospitals, with many more buildings than the one shown here. Still, Cancer is a growth business.

Not just schadenfreude; not just consolation; not just the need to experience differences to awaken awareness. Really an essential characteristic of the world--yin and yang.

I showed the colour version (in comments) 11 days ago. I like this mono version too.

The London Underground is a microcosm of the city. Everyone, from bankers to buskers, congregates in this dirty and frantic web of tunnels connecting the city above. This tube stop, serene and beautiful in its utilitarian design, is instantly transformed into a mob scene. Frantic commuters rush to catch the next train in a trance of oblivious self-interest.

We live close to the edge of the Canadian [Precambrian] Shield, so the bedrock lives close to the surface. The rock mountain in the the photo is from rock excavated in the building of a new subdivision. I wonder if it will have a future purpose or if it will be removed once construction is completed.
