After flying around to check us out, the female Great Horned Owl eventually returned to the nest cavity where her chicks were hunkered down, giving one last look back before hopping into the hole.
I missed that moment when the lovely ball of fuff hatched by the local Tawny Frogmouths was visible in the nest with its dad. Suddenly it became a handsome young bird. In a nice gesture of compensation the whole family showed up together this morning - see the next photo.

♫Well I'm a lot like you
When you're standing at the crossroads
And don't know which path to choose
Let me come along
'Cause even if you're wrong
I'll stand by you
I'll stand by you
Won't let nobody hurt you
I'll stand by you
Take me in, into your darkest hour
And I'll never desert you
I'll stand by you♫
Here we see what is probably (guessing!) the female eagle returning to the nest after only being gone a minute or so. On the nest the very young eaglet waits the arrival of sibs. Near St.John's, NL, Canada.

A mommy Pileated Woodpecker ( top of hydro pole) showing her female fledgling( left lower on pole) how to forage for food.
Females lay 3-8 white, oval eggs in a nesting cavity where they are incubated mostly by the male for 15-18 days. The young are brooded by the female and stay in the nest for 26-28 days and are fed by both parents. Pileated woodpeckers have only one brood per year and are monogamous.

Once common across southern Africa, southern white
rhinos were thought to be extinct in the late 19th century,
but in 1895 a small population of less than 100 individuals
was discovered in Kwazulu-Natal, South Africa.
After more than a century of successful protection and management, they are now classified as Near Threatened
and over 20,000 animals exist in protected areas and
private game reserves.

This is our "Mama" squirrel looking at me. She's at around 4 years old and we hope for another farrow of baby squirrels in spring. I just love the Sigma 85mm Art: how the back of Mama blends in with the background bokeh amazes me (Squirrels-2019-7351.jpg)

A large herd of elephants as you will often see in Botswana and interaction aplenty amongst babies, sub adults and even the big guys!
