Refa brings together renowned musicians from Syria, Tibet, Iran, Afghanistan, Turkey and Belgium who are united by their desire to weave links between their music. The group has developed an original repertoire at the crossroads between their different traditions.
After a fantastic five-year adventure with two albums, more than a hundred concerts in Belgium and abroad, rave reviews including the first place in the annual list of the Transglobal World Music Charts in 2016 and the Klara for best Belgian world music album in 2019, Refugees for Refugees has written a new chapter in one of the success stories of traditional music in recent years.
They will continue under a new name and a new line-up. Refugees for Refugees becomes Refa.
“In the first place, we want to be seen as musicians, as people and not as refugees,” says Syrian ud-player Tarek Alsayed. “Our previous name pushed us into a victim role.” The statement is clear: from refugees into musicians.

Btw we did all this trek on foot and we were the only ones doing it so, rest were going by horses ;) it took us around 4 hours to reach on top of this lake, It was the toughest and best trek which I have done till date, we witnessed snowfall and rain, slippery mountains and glaciers, we weren't prepared well for the trek as we thought it would be peace of cake since we already did the nangaparbat basecamp trek but was it tough or what. Nevertheless its a life time experience, I recommend everyone to go there once at least.
Ansoo Lake is a high-altitude lake (elevation 13,540 feet or 4,126 metres) in the Kaghan Valley in the Mansehra District of the North-West Frontier Province of Pakistan. It is near Malika Parbat in the Himalayan range.
It can be reached by a difficult trek from Saiful Mulook Lake and requires physical and mental fitness. If one chooses to walk it takes more than eight hours for a round trip starting from lake Saif ul Muluk. The trek is covered with snow in most parts of the year. The best time to trek is from 25th July to 30th August. The optimal time to set off for the lake is around 09:00 in the morning. Horses can also be hired from the Lake Saif ul Muluk along with a guide person who will take you to Ansoo Lake. It costs almost PKR 800-1000 per horse. Another trek to reach Ansoo Lake is from Mahandri, which is 40 km below Naran, but this is a less trod route and the difficulties are unknown. The name "Ansoo" comes from its tear-like shape (the Urdu word Ansoo means teardrop). The lake is said to have been discovered in 1993 by Pakistan Air Force pilots who were flying low above the area. Earlier, the lake was not even known to the locals.

A Bangladeshi vendor Wasim Mohammad (35) sells formal court for 300 to 600 taka alongside a street in Gullisthan hawker market, Dhaka, Bangladesh.
He's 11years old, live with his father in Tejgaon Rail Colony. He can sing very well. When I asked what do you want to be in your future, he said he wants to be a mechanic. He wants to bring back all those luxuries that his family used to have before his ex-Army father lost everything to his uncle.

He was standing in front of a coffee shop and called out to me, asking how I liked my camera. I said “Fine” and he started asking if it was an Olympus. I crossed the street and said it was and I asked if he liked cameras. That’s when he mentioned a few cameras he owned, including a Canon and a Nikon. When I asked if he was a collector he said “I’ve had a few.” When I asked what was his favorite he replied (without hesitation) “My Nikon F3.” He told me what year it was and how much it is worth today. Meet Mohammad.
Our conversation proceeded and was camera focused. It was then that I told him about my Human Family photography project and asked him if he would participate. He was curious and said that would be fine. I suggested we move a few steps down the covered sidewalk to get a bit more light and as he was parking his coffee cup, I told him he could bring it with since I would do a head and shoulders portrait. A few quick photos later, we continued our conversation with me directing it away from cameras and toward him and his life.
Mohammad is 54 and came to Canada at age 26 from his native Guyana. His reason for coming was common to most immigrants: For a better life. The best thing that has happened in his life? “My daughter. She’s 26 and she’s definitely the best thing that ever happened to me. My marriage didn’t work out that well (divorced 15 years ago) but my daughter is my pride and joy.” When I asked what kind of work he has done, he said quite a few things. The ones I recall are furniture moving and McDonalds. “I’m on disability now, though. Kidney problems and high blood pressure.” He pointed to his legs which were like tree trunks and slipped off a slipper to show me a badly swollen foot. I asked him if he was getting good medical care and he assured me he was.
When I asked him for a message he would like to share with those who see his portrait he said “Encourage your children to get as much education as possible. It will serve them well in life.” He then added, almost as an afterthought “Don’t smoke or drink in front of your children. If you have to smoke or drink, do it away from your children.”
I thanked Mohammad for participating in my project and wished him better health. I offered to send him a copy of the photo but he declined, saying he could request it later if he changed his mind since I had given him my contact card.
