First light on the Sawtooth's Grand Mogul and Mt. Heyburn reflected in Little Redfish Lake.
The Sawtooth National Recreation Area (Sawtooth NRA) consists of 756,000 acres of scenic mountain country and includes over 700 miles of trails, 40 peaks rising over 10,000 feet and more than 300 high mountain lakes that add to the spectacular scenery and vistas. This striking mountain landscape was a favorite playground of Ernest Hemingway, who is buried in nearby Ketchum.

LMS Ivatt Class 4 No. 43106 passes grazing cattle while running light engine towards Kidderminster during Severn Valley Railway's spring steam gala on 15th April 2023.
43106 is the only surviving example of an LMS Ivatt Class 4 2-6-0 Mogul, and is affectionately referred to on the Severn Valley Railway as “The Flying Pig” (often shortened to "The Pig"). It is owned by the Ivatt Class 4 Group.

Looking across Idaho's Redfish Lake at the Sawtooth's Grand Mogul ( 9,733 ft, 2,967 m) as it catches the first days rays of the sun.
The Sawtooths encompasses an area of 678 square miles. There are 57 peaks with an elevation over 10,000 feet in the Sawtooth Range.

Most of my pics of the Sawtooth lakes are from my favorite: Little Redfish Lake, which I posted yesterday.
Here's a shot of the much larger lake, with the Grand Mogul capturing first light on a clear day.
The lake is named for the brilliant sockeye salmon that once returned from the Pacific Ocean in such massive quantities that the lake shimmered red during spawning season. Currently, only a small percentage of the wild sockeye succeed in making through the several hydroelectric dams along their route back to the lake to spawn. Efforts continue to enhance their chances for more salmon to return here.
Redfish Lake is at the headwaters of the Salmon River, whose waters flow north to meet the Snake River and continue to the Columbia River and the Pacific Ocean.
