This flat-fronted Edwardian survivor reads like someone handed a restoration crew a Fauvism primer and told them to go for it. The building's curved cornice — a gesture toward Italianate or Classical Revival detailing — is ringed with gilded medallions against a field of periwinkle, a chromatic decision that tips the whole composition from "painted lady" into full-on neighborhood landmark. Two stacked cant bay windows anchor the upper floors, their casings trimmed in magenta so saturated they hold their own against a bruised sunset sky. The arched entry surround at ground level is a nice piece of period woodwork — corbels intact, keystone legible — surviving beneath layers of paint that have only deepened its presence over the decades. The red brick base, probably a later reinforcement after one of the district's many seismic upgrades, grounds the structure while creating a deliberate material rupture between utilitarian podium and theatrical upper facade. The wrought iron gate at center reads as post-original, added sometime in the last forty years as street-level security became non-negotiable on this corridor. A street tree in early canopy obscures the transition zone — which is exactly where the magic happens on South Van Ness: Victorian wood above, 20th-century pragmatism below.

Last weekend we joined a photowalk in the Mission District in San Francisco. This part of the city has a lot of character, there are small shops, and small alleys with many murals. It was fun walking with 100ish photographers.
I processed a balanced HDR photo from a RAW exposure, and carefully adjusted the color balance and curves, then desaturated the image. I welcome and appreciate your critical feedback.
