An impression of the metro station "Frankfurter Ring" - U 2 - Munich - Germany

This station has a wayward, but great style. Spontaneous I thought, it looks a little bit like a modern version of the labyrinth of the Minotaur.

So many questions! Whose destiny? Any chance anymore? Anybody wants this destiny? What is the alternative? Will the guy who owns this bike ever come out again? Is this the entry to the labyrinth of the Minotaurus and if so why isn't it on Crete?

The palace of the Minotaurs

The Minotaur (Minotaurus in latin) is a mythical creature portrayed in Classical times with the head of a bull and the body of a man or, as described by Roman poet Ovid, a being "part man and part bull". The Minotaur dwelt at the center of the Labyrinth, which was an elaborate maze-like construction designed by the architect Daedalus and his son Icarus, on the command of King Minos of Crete. The Minotaur was eventually killed by the Athenian hero Theseus.

The Rhyton in the back was found in the archaological Minoan site of Knossos. It's a replica ofcourse.

If you're interested in mythology or history I can only , with much respect, recommend a visit to Crete, the archaeological sites an museums there.

"Make a photograph today to serve as a special memory of somebody or something."

Liam and I spent most of the afternoon playing board games. 'Totally Gross Science', 'Minotaurus' and 'Blokus Trigon' were all on the agenda. Here he is upon realizing that he was unable to place any more pieces. And yes, he's still wearing his sock monkey toque.

Inspired by the spaceway that Mr_Minotaurus built at Bricking Bavaria and the Annual Challenge on RogueBricks.de with the topic 90 years of LEGO, I built a remake of the Space Police II set "Sonar Security" (6852) from '93.

My version is quite a bit bigger than the original, allowing for a bit more detail in the design as well as a more functional rocket launching trailer. It also has flexibly suspended wheels on the lorry and trailer, allowing for better offroad capabilities. And it includes lighting features with the battery box and hub neatly hidden behind the cockpit and accessible through a hatch on the roof.

Building instructions and further details can be found on Rebrickable.

A farmer was ploughing his field when he unearthed the first of many Roman villas found on the site. These villas were home to the elite of Roman society, living in the then capital of Cyprus. Their wealth and social status was revealed in the magnificent mosaic floors they commissioned for their homes, five of which have been fully excavated.

After a long time under the soil the mosaic floors have been beautifully preserved. They exist more than 1600-1800 years now.

They are among the finest in the Eastern Mediterranean and depict scenes from Greek mythology.

The Villas are named after the deities and heroes shown in the mosaics:

"The House of Dionysos", "The House of Theseus", "The House of Aion", "The House of Orpheus"

and "The House of Four Seasons" (the mosaic represents the personification of the four seasons..).

They are part of Unesco World heritage site among other archaeological remains around the City of Paphos and a real

highlight.

I have shared a few images of the mosaics in a new set.: Paphos, Cyprus - Roman Mosaics"

By the way, The Archaelogical park of the villas is immense (e.g.the Villa of Theseus has a floor aera

of about 10 000 sqms).

__________

Minoan Taurus

The Minoans (2000 - 1600 BC) held the bull in high regard. It was associated with the sun (while the cow represented the moon), and worshiped as an idol.

Some facts: Everywhere you go you see the Portara… Close to Naxos port, on the tiny island of Palatia (Dia), the remains of a marble gate "Portara" can be found. It was built during the 6th century B. C. (530 - 540 B. C.) under the rule of the tyrant Lygdamis and was meant to be a marble temple worshiping the god Apollon. The gate is around 6m high and about 3,5m wide and was built with 4 separate columns. Now there are just 3 columns left. Some of the temple's stones were used as ordinary building materials for the Kastro. It is believed that this temple should have been dedicated to the god Apollo because the Portara is located to the west where Delos is, the island of Apollon.

Apollon, sun of Zeus and Leto, was the god protecting music and poets and was worshiped especially by young men because of his beauty and perfection. The temple was left unfinished after the dictator abdicated. He was the only dictator ever on Naxos.

Later, in the Middle Ages, when it was a habit building churches in the old temples' area, a Christian church was temporarily erected behind the Portara. Nowadays it is a popular place with foreign people getting married.

The ancient town of Naxos was located at the same place. Mythology says that once Ariadne (daughter of King Minos of Crete) while sleeping was left by Theseus in Naxos. Theseus (son of King Aegeas of Athens) was the one who fought against Minotaurus, son of Minos' wife Pasiphai.

Minotaurus was half man, half bull. King Minos built a labyrinth where Minotaurus had to live. Every ninth year they used to sacrifice 7 boys and 7 virgin girls to Minotaurus. Theseus wanted to stop this massacre. Ariadne was in love with Theseus and helped him to exit the labyrinth. They left Crete together and were planning to go back to Athens but on their way they stopped in Naxos.

Naxos is the island of god Dionysos, the god of wine and life. According to some version of the story, Theseus left Ariadne because he met Dionysos in his dream while they were sleeping on the little island Dia - where Portara is. Dionysos told Theseus to leave Ariadne in Naxos because she belonged to him. Dionysos and Ariadne got married and had three children in Naxos, as Apollodoros says.

Theseus left Naxos and continued his trip to Athens. Before he faught Minotaurus he had promised his father to hoist the white sail to let him know that he survived. But they were celebrating the victory and so they forgot to hoist the sail. King Aegeas thought his son is dead, jumped from the Cape Sounion into the ocean and the part of the sea got its name, the Aegean Sea. This myth gave Richard Strauss the inspirations for his opera "Ariadne in Naxos".

The melancholy of loneliness

Minotaur, lonely and trapped in his labyrinth in Crete, longs for freedom.

He's crushing a little bird in his claws that he envied for its freedom.

The monster is also a victim.

From November 18th to 20th 2022 I went to Bricking Bavaria in Fürth, where Mr_Minotaurus built a spaceway in the style of the old LEGO catalogues for presenting space vehicles in the style of the 80s and 90s. This inspired me to contribute a little remake of the Space Police II set "Sonar Security" (6852) from '93.

The glowing red central figure of the Minotaur, the white goddess, Carrington‘s two children at the table and the dancer in the doorway, they all refer to the artist‘s life which she used to depict by symbols, strange creatures and hybrid beasts. In spite of the fact that the Minotaur, clad in red, catches the eye at first sight, Carrington painted the white goddess, a portrait of herself, as the center of the composition. The white goddess refers to Robert Graves‘ book of the same title which made a strong impression on Leonora Carrington.
