George & Harding Construction Ltd, was established in 1867 by Charles George who joined forces with Henry Harding and signed a partnership deed in 1883. In 2009 it became a victim of recession after 140 years of trading and filed for voluntary liquidation after two customers went into receivership and other debtors withheld payment. The last contract to be completed by George & Harding Construction Ltd was a 307 bed Travelodge hotel near terminal four of Heathrow Airport, which was handed over at the end of 2008 after which they ceased trading. The liquidation was confined to the construction firm and did not affect other parts of the G&H Group of companies (as it was rebranded in 2008): G&H Contracts Ltd, G&H Design Ltd, G&H Joinery Ltd, G&H Retail Ltd, which, after restructuring, lost 19 out of 69 jobs through redundancy.
