Part of getting through life is accepting, and dealing with, our weaknesses. Which doesn't mean they aren't still a pain in the butt.

Me, I'm over-sensitive to all kinds of sensory input - and input affecting my sensors. For instance, even in August in our constant ocean breezes, I daren't go outside without my ears covered.

This is, of course, a huuuge pain. When everyone else is out in shorts and bathing suits, I'm sweating with a big fleecy band around my head. It sucks, but the alternative (excruciating ear aches) sucks a whole lot worse.

I'm also overly sensitive to noise. And bright light. Especially bright flashing light that hits my eyes unexpectedly. So... imagine how much fun I am as a companion at a rawk show. Normally I take along ear plugs. Last night I forgot.

I guess I was lulled into complacency by the fact that the show was at a theatre. A play house. A place I last attended in my teens, when I saw some Shakespearean production there. So yeah... I went in plugless. And immediately regretted it. Still... I was up for enjoying myself... until the %$(*&$%(&ing light show started.

I can't imagine whose idea it was to flash big spotlights directly into the audience's eyes repeatedly throughout the night. Probably the same wise person who decided a super-bright sign behind the band... illuminated by 10,000 1,000 watt bulbs... was also a very good thing to flash repeatedly in the audience's eyes.

What really amazed me was that no one else seemed bothered. Whereas I was in several sorts of agony all night.

The bright flashing lights. Fuck, man. I thought I was gonna have a seizure or something. I ended up spending most of the night doubled over with my head in my lap, eyes closed, hands clamped over my face. Every time I tried to enjoy actually watching the band... zappo! Unexpected blasts of super-bright white light set off pinball explosions in my brain.

So today is pretty much a write-off. Migraine city, man.

And I HATE HATE HATE that my body is so delicate.

I'm from sturdy peasant stock. Why am I so fragile? Why do things that normal people take in stride disable me?

Sorry for the whining self-pity. Kee-rist. At least I know, without a doubt, that I am now too old for rawk shows. Goodbye youth. Your time has come and gone. From now on I'll just satisfy myself by listening to records at home.

Another unlikely Washington scene... this one from the Gingko Petrified Forest.

The other piece is from a shoot I did one day when I had a nasty migraine and could only find relief in the total absorption/distraction of trying to do ridiculous things with mirrors.

Yesterday, I found myself in a similar spot. I didn't have a migraine, but I spent several hours setting up and adjusting and rearranging and doing test shots... before concluding that the goal I was after was just too ambitious.

I like that part of the process of photography - the failure - as much as the relative successes. I may not achieve what I set out to achieve... but at least I get a better sense of what's beyond my grasp.

From yesterday's session I learned that anything requiring me to stand on a chair (or other unstable object) to see through the camera is not a good idea. I also learned to accept that some ideas just don't translate. And man... did I ever feel relieved when I gave up.

I think giving up is hugely underrated. Quitters of the world, unite.

It's the first Day of 2021 and I have been plagued by one of my Migraines!! Just when it would have been nice to celebrate a bit!

I've been quiet for a few weeks as i've been struggling with Covid. I thought i was experiencing extremely bad migraines and then we all fell like flies at work. It's been difficult and very painful. I'm still home, actually we all are and hope to return next week, if all goes well. Please keep me in your good thoughts and prayers.

Thank you.

One the three Amigos -Black-shouldered Kites near home. They haven't been around lately so perhaps they have moved onto greener pastures. Hope not!

Have been sick with migraine so not posting and commenting much-so sorry. Hope to catch up with you all soon.

Crazy but I miss my Flickr family when I'm away from it.

Snake River reflection...

A little Saturday morning playtime while I suck down some raktajino. Look closely.

Found on Explore, 12/4/22.

Puntarenas, Costa Rica, 2015.

it was hot, very hot, air was buzzing like a migraine scotoma, which is precisely how welcome we felt in that ugly seaport, turning away was the best part of that daytrip

New River, Condo reflections, Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

I am a sucker for twigs and branches and have countless pics of them, mostly macro shots. Not all published. Might chose this one since it shows the first signs of spring.

Planned for Saturday to go out and look for more objects, the weather was awesome but I had gotten a bad migraine so this one is all I had to deliver, I rather have some choices of what I will contribute but it was a no go. Good I made this on Friday, but even though I had other options (also from Friday) this was all I could manage.

There's not a lot happening in my garden flower-wise at this time, but all of a sudden the Muscari have made their appearance.

At the same time I've been sorting out my large collection of petite cups and saucers and had forgotten I had this one, which I thought suited the subject nicely.

The sun was streaming through the window all day long yesterday - in fact, I shouldn't moan, but it ends up giving me aura migraines !

On Saturday morning I spent some time in the vineyards again. I felt a migraine coming but the weather was still nice and in autumn you have to make the best of every sunny moment, especially on a weekend. When I took the photos for this pano I was on my way back to the car. It's the view towards the vineyards which I had roamed earlier that morning and towards the bad weather which was approaching quickly.

The pano consists of four photos which were stitched together in Lightroom.

Thanks for all your lovely comments. The migraine seems to have passed - Thankfully! I took it easy today and enjoyed a headache free day. I'm going to keep a diary now and will hopefully find out what the main triggers are..... I;m looking forward to being able to get out and get some autumn shots:-)

And for a change of pace, here's a Coast Guard PB4Y Privateer, photographed at a St Louis air show a couple weekends ago. The conditions were beautiful, with nice fluffly clouds in the background so that it is hard to tell that they were photographed from the ground. Unfortunately I had to leave with a migraine shortly after the show started.

Its so long since I have done such a long drive as yesterday, and this morning I suffered a migraine that has gone on all day! Its been a peaceful but painful day watching the clouds scudding across the sky, while Peter and Baxter have been enjoying themselves with his daughter. These tulips were being sold at Daylesford last time I was there - so pretty!!

The Ricoh CX-3 is cheap on Amazon.

I thought I would give it a try.

I have been busy still getting ready for the tour next week. I am sorry to be so absent!

Presently I am practicing, started a new student, and am recovering from a migraine.

Wonderful weather in Austin today.

How are you?

The mystery of a neurological episode

I'm having a migraine where I lose partial vision so hope this makes sense. This was a male Tramea carolina last Spring @ the wetlands, North Georgia. Our odes could start as early as the end of March. Highs mostly in low 60's

Once a beautiful tulip, now a desiccated wreck.... Still beautiful in my opinion though!

We have spent the whole day mooching around - I am recovering from the migraine, and `Peter has been, for him very unusually, quite sick! Roll on tomorrow!

I got so enthusiastic about photographing the moss yesterday that I I just had to do more today - in spite of having a migraine !

I have some super pieces of wood left from my old flower arranging hobby and it was the ideal 'staging' for my woody macros. This of course is a more overall view - but still with my macro lens.

Some of the iconic scenes that we visited during our little adventure have been forgotten about other than in print.

We had to take Marc to a doctor in the early hours. While there, he became, once again, very unwell. A tonic clonic seizure leading to him being doubly incontinent and a powerful migraine.

I did what I always do and sorted him out by comforting him through the seizure and cleaning and tidying him in what facilities there were. Nobody helped.

I learned nothing more than what we already knew, but had the inevitable SUDEP documents thrust in my hands. "You should read about this" I was told - resisting the urge to ask "what can I help you understand better" as I know SUDEP inside out and live with that fear every moment of every day.

I brought Marc home again and he is now resting in a comfortable, familiar and supportive environment ...

The journey continues!

Try saying that tongue twister title a few times 😁 Feverfew flowers with a small fly investigating them HFDF!

This plant was introduced from S.E. Europe & is generally considered to be a garden escape which has naturalised in Ireland. The leaves were traditionally used as a migraine treatment (not fever as the name suggests).

Photo 35/100 for the 100 Flowers 2020 group. Hope my Flickr friends are not bored to death of my flower photos but I want to catch up.

Not really! Facing another lockdown, with another migraine! Trying to cheer myself up!

Retitled (not terribly creatively; blame the migraine) from the "sunset5" default file name, after slight ribbing from Bill. Because I may have posted a few more than five sunsets.

Finally over the Migraine that hit me on Friday evening - worst one I've had in a while. Can't tell you good it feels for it to be gone. Lets hope to day is as bright and cheery as the shot above:-)

Been using a lot of red lately.

Fun fact: Red gives me migraines and I tend to avoid it, but it's so pretty that I deal with it long enough to take photos when I can.

I think the migraine + the dizzy + the foggy? GONE. Xing fingers and praying to whichever deity will listen.

I took this pic while fighting off a migraine which may have affected a few things in the final composition. I was hoping it would distract me a bit. It kinda worked. Also, it was nice to whip out the Spires backdrop again for a touch of dramatic architecture.
